Newcastle United vs. Manchester United

So which of you motley crew are coming up to the frozen north for this game?

A fixture I love to attend - reasons for not doing so this time:

1. Too close to NY Hols
2. mid bl**dy week
3. Too bl**dy cold !

I really hope we can field something like this:

-----Lindergard / De Gea
Jones---Smalling--Rio-----Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Anderson-Nani
----Berbatov--Rooney----

Many people putting Smalling in, is he actually available? If not, put Rafael in for him at RB and the above works for me...

This isn't really all that relevant... but a mate of mine (who doesn't support United, or follow football) has just walked past our squad who were out for a walk down the Quayside in Newcastle... Sent me a picture to rub said fact in.

What I find humerous mind is that, they're all in club tracksuits, and all have their hoods up... apart from Rooney and Giggs, who are by far and away are two most famous footballers.

I'm at work, so can't upload the picture to a host as hosting sites and things of that ilk are banned.

It's not the best quality picture anyway... I mean, I can only tell it's Giggs and Rooney because she said they're Giggs and Rooney.

Seems like Rio has travelled and made it for the game? Hopefully he will partner Jones and Carrick can go back to midfield perhaps with Ando

There was some radio interview where Fergie only mentioned about Giggs and Rio being back today as possibilities, the others won't be back. But you'll never know with Fergie

Only seen it via SSN, but apparently Ferdinand, Smalling, Giggs, and Rooney should be in the squad for this. Evans has been training but I haven't heard anything on his fitness and the original time of return was after this game I believe. Anderson could also be back again after a very speedy return, he was expected back in February. I'm not sure if he was just dumped into the squad too early because of what happened with Rooney / Gibson / Evans, so he could be left out for now. I also didn't see the Blackburn game due to work, so I'm not sure how he looked in that second half. Was he looking fit enough to play a part?

Lindegaard; Fryers; Anderson, Giggs, Park; Welbeck, Hernández

de Gea > Lindegaard: All the pressure has been heaped on de Gea since he's conceded 17 goals in 14 Premier League games. However, I can only think of a few that were pretty much entirely his fault (West Brom away, Blackburn home, probably a few others). While Lindegaard has 5 clean sheets in his 5 Premier League games, they've come against a Norwich side that fluffed their chances and an uninspired Sunderland at Old Trafford. Aston Villa away who put in a poor performance, Fulham who got battered on the day and Wigan who we always turn over. It's obviously not a fair comparison yet and I think SAF will show faith in de Gea after a mistake and start him again. If he doesn't start de Gea, it'll be a worry as it could shatter his confidence even more. I'd go with de Gea.

Defence: I'd personally like to see Rafael get another game, with both Ferdinand and Smalling in defence. However, I wouldn't mind Jones at Right Back and Giggs in midfield, or Jones at CB if one of Ferdinand or Smalling don't make it. If Ba is playing I just hope we have four actual defenders in there...

Midfield: Michael Carrick :) + Jones/Giggs/Park. Anderson to sub on. Valencia right, Nani left.

Attack: Rooney in the hole and Berbatov to lead. Welbeck or Hernández on for 'tov at some stage.

Got to win after Liverpool crumbled.

We haven't beaten you in 18 attempts. We seem to freeze every time we play you. I mean, I know we're expected to get beat but the performances are generally rubbish too whereas plenty teams give you the odd decent game.

I thought we'll stuff your lot in the first game at OT and it never happened. I fancy an on-form Demba Ba to do something against a not fully fit Rio and Jones today to be honest. You're a tought side to beat at home and you managed to hold us 0-0 last season, i wouldn't be surprised if it ends up the same result again, maybe 1-1 this time

I really hope Smalling is fit. Him and Rio at the back. Jones, Carrick and Giggs in the middle.

I've got an absolutely horrible feeling Pardew is going to inexplicably start the eternal prodigy, King Shola. He actually played him on the wing recently, which was a more than unwanted nostalgia trip.

If ever there was a player that recently recovered CBs would like to make their return against it is that lummox.

Im thinking we will win this one by a glamorous scoreline of

Newcastle United 1-5 Manchester United

I'm a bit concerned about this one. I think it could end up being a bit of a slog to get a result from the game.
