Newcastle v Man Utd

fecks sake unbelivably bad from some of the players tonight

The way I see it we're still 7 points clear of Chelsea.

And our defence has been poor for the last few games..

Don't think it was that poor. I think we really missed Carrick today. He should have been brought on earlier. We were just letting Newcastle shoot from anywhere.

what a bad New Year :(

I honestly could not see Newcastle score against us in the second half. But they did, with a scholes deflection...

It's unbelivable how we could miss so many of our chanses. Credit to Given in barcodes goal for some important saves. Martins was a handfull to deal with.. for me MoM.

It was so damn strange. We dominated the game, created like 239 opportunities to score and ended up drawing 2-2 instead of winning.

When it was 1-2, the game could've been ended, but it weren't. Then they tried long-range shots, and one of them fell in, how fecking unbelievable.

it's 2 games in 2 days ffs. The likes of Rooney or Park has been running their arses off just 2 days ago.

Well, that's my excuse. We normally run the Barcode off every game we play them, not this one, so it must be it

Newcastle had a header saved by vandersar and unstopable goal from milner and the deflected goal. other then that it was all manchester united. Certainly we could have closed down milner but as you can see when scholes closed down the ball deflected off him into the net. The only cause for concern is finishing these chances.

THe players will take this game to heart and improve. SAF although upset by this result can use it to improve the squad.

Still think we ran them off the pitch. Deflected goal numerous chances missed unstopable strike leads to a draw.

I'll take a draw away being the worst result of the festive season.. 7 points...

Newcastle also had a match two days ago. We had a fresher side, there's just no excuse. Very much two points dropped. And wouldn't Chelsea love it.

Just one of those games. We had plenty of chances but didn't take them. Two long range shots cost us.

Fletcher didn't close Milner down properly for the first goal. For the second goal, it was one of those goals.

Newcastle wanted more than us. Also it could have been worse. Like Ronney could have been out with that injury.

We will still be ahead of Chelsea by minumum of 4 points tomorrow. As long as it is a little blip we will be okay at the end of the season.

16 attempts and only 2 goals? We can do better!!!!

Exactly and i don't think Villa will be lying down tommorow.

hopefully

Has Martins been this impressive all season for them? He was a real pain in the butt. I can't believe some of you on here kept saying Rossi was better than him.

Although there were some wayward strikes, a lot of them were very close or shaved the post. Its just bad luck, nothing more. The performance was satisfactory. Only bit of concern is that the defence has been looking extremely shaky the last few games, and don't look likely to keep a clean sheet.

He's had a good run after a bad start adapting and due to injuries.

Scholes excellent today has to be say, two goals. Rio and Giggs did ok as well.

Some people here probably think that Rossi is better than Henry.

3 wins and an away draw is a decent return from the Xmas period. You will have games like this where you're a goal up, you can't get another and then you are pegged back by a deflected shot. Would have been nice to have had Solskjaer on the bench and I thought Carrick should have started in place of Fletcher. The game was a bit helter-skelter and Carrick could have calmed it down better than Fletcher.

I thought it was an OK performance overall. Most players performed OK although only Vidic and Scholes really stood out. I'm glad we'll have Larsson now to hopefully come and give us some better finishing.

Funny to see Newcastle celebrating a draw at home with United like a Cup final win, but it reflects the clubs respective positions at the moment.

The gap will surely be a 4 points tomorrow. I'd have certainly taken that if offered after the West Ham defeat. Happy to have a nice gap till the next PL game.

ratings:
VDS 6 Could not avoid either goal, but some dodgy clearances
G Nev 6 Maybe could have closed down Milner better
Rio 7 Solid
Vidic 8 Great headers as usual
Evra 6 A bit too slow in first half, better in the second
Fletcher 5 Not sharp enough today.
Scholes 8 MOTM 2 great goals
Giggs 7 good in general but some poor crosses at times
Ronaldo 7 decent, can't be a matchwinner in every game
Saha N/R injured early
Rooney 6 worked hard but touch is still not quite there
---------
Park 6 worked hard but should have done better in the box
Carrick 7 did well when he came on, should have started with him

If you look on the bright side, we lost 2 points away! Chelski lost 4 home points in the last 2 games.

It is a long season and we will be fine. At least it is in January and we can sign one or two more players.

That is football. I will still take it if we win the League on goal difference!

Disappointing display from your lot today.
hardly with 22 shots on goal

the result is disappointing for us and lucky for Newcastle who fought well

Not sure why we didn't have a forward on the bench - was Ole injured? Rossi could have been there

Ole was tired after playing two games in a row according to Carlos.

Thje trouble is with Saha going off so early in the game it was bound to cause a problem for us with no striker on the bench

Was it as many as that? That does surprise me.

A lot must have been off target.

There were 22 goal attempts for us after 88 minutes. So at the end it was more like 24, but I don't know precisely.

Only five of them were on target, that's mainly what we are talking about. We had at least ten good goal-scoring opportunities and converted only two of them, the other three went on target and the rest was completely off target. That isn't good.

Your lot only getting 5 shots on target doesn't make Newcastle lucky....maybe it suggests your shooting was poor. Today NUFC put pressure on your players at the crucial time which meant their shots were generally off target.

There is only one way to beat MU and that is to work harder at closing the ball down and stopping players like Rooney/Giggs/Scholes/Ronaldo etc the space to play.

The hard part is doing it for every minute of the game.
