Next United manager 2020/21 edition

Yep. Get another manager in and we’ll have the same thread in 2 years time.

Well I guess another option is just to have these threads going on for another 2 years.

Because things are only going in one direction now. Ole is finished regardless of the board or Ed or sporting directors or anything else.

100%

They'll maybe achieve the clubs new aim, top 4, after being backed initially only to see the well run dry when we're finally in position to really build and drive on given that our management are fine with achieving the bare minimum.

They prefer to leave the actual trophy challenging and winning to our biggest rivals

Well, we'll have an awful season, fail to make the CL, spend 150m+.

If we want signings, don't qualify for the CL

Pochettino
Marco Rose
Nagelsmann

Take your pick. I can't imagine Nagelsmann will leave yet, so between Pochettino and Marco Rose, think Rose is better, but Pochettino is free and available and knowing this board, well... we'll probably get none of these 3.

Anyone of these would be a good pick

Ole won't be here next season. The only question is will he be here post December or not.

Otherwise, Poch 100% will be the next manager.

I hope we don't fecking wait too long like we always do.
Sack him, get a proper manager in.
I think it will be Poch. Hopefully we react soon but I have 0 faith in the clowns that are in charge of this club.

It doesnt matter who we have... The board is a bunch of clowns and wont back any manager.

Pochettino and fans will be be surprised why this didn’t happen sooner. However, I feel nagelsman might come into contention especially if he knocks Ole out of the champions league. Allegri or any other United legends will be a mistake.

Xabi Alonso and Bielsa is an interesting shout

We'll be seeing this exact same thread in 2 years time. The biggest problem lies upstairs.

There are many other issues but a good manager would get much more from this team. We have some wonderful players who have been outplayed in every position for the last 3 league games. Not even close to making a battle of it - how we have 3 points is a miracle.
The bigger issues will need time to sort out. Ole’s ineptitude as a top flight manager can be sorted tonight.

Absolutely. Our CEO is an idiot. But imagine if our team was as well coached as Leeds. Wouldn't that be great? Or do we need Woodward to help us beat Palace at home?

I don’t disagree but that doesn’t mean sticking with Ole is right. The board isn’t going to change and I think we all know that deep down. Therefore sticking with a manager who can’t overcome their incompetence is a waste of time. We’ve got to hope someone somewhere can come in and make this team better than OGS can.

Allegri plays defensive football. It means a total shift to what we play at the moment. I expect we start to learn from our mistakes. Naglesmann utilise wingbacks and a fast defence. So the same argument with Allegri apply. I'd go for Rangnick as DOF with either Pochs or Ancelotti as manager.

Requirements:

Ambition
Isolates the players from the commercialised buffoonery of the owners and hierarchy, so as not to ruin them
Tactical nous
Dignity (no vapid soundbites praising the ownership, trying oversell how many players want to join, etc.)
Ruthlessness

As long as we don't change our football development structure and scouting methods, it won't matter who comes here.

Given that Ole’s luck ran out and even penalties aren’t making a difference, maybe it’s time to assess who can make this very good (unbalanced) team competitive again.

I guess Poch will be the man wanted by many, but I’m going for Graham Potter. His Brighton are always well organised and press well, just don’t have to quality to pull it off but he sticks with it. Him, or just throw a bus full of cash at Bielsa.

Thoughts?

Do we really think a new manager will fix this? Laughable..

Even if that's true a manager learning his trade isn't the right call is it? We need someone who can make the team better than it is despite the issues.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think Solskjaer needs to go too. It's just hard to have any sort of positive outlook on our future while the Glazers and Woodward are still here.

Not with Woodward in charge but Ole will get the sack, it just seems inevitable. It's not going to get easier as the season goes on.

The thing is, if we bring in any decent manager, they're obviously not going to want to play Maguire - for example - and will require another big rebuild and writing off hundreds of millions of pounds.

Yeah, bring in Potter or Bielsa and we'd contend for the title next year.

Who said pushing for a title. Just to have a style of play and get the players motivated to show some commitment for a start.
We had Jose Mourinho, look at his merits compared to those two. The best he did under this ownership was an EL, League Cup and 2nd 20 points behind City. Incredibly few managers out there could succeed when there is zero guidande or leadership from above. For an example I rate the likes of Nagelsmann, Ten Haag and Poch quite high but truth be told even they would struggle badly under these lot.

Always keep in mind the same people you are putting faith in are the same that went against their own word and panic hired Ole after a run of good results as opposed to what they promised which was to evaluate once the season ended and have a "thourough search for the right candidate in the meantime"

Fact is they can't get anything right, anything.

Whoever it is, hopefully it is a progressive choice.

Potter is an interesting choice, Rose would be great, even Hassenhutl is an interesting one. Nagelsmann, Ten Hag all are interesting choices.

The problem is, whoever comes, the pressure on the board should not decrease. We need better decision makers at the top, a DOF is absolutely necessary.

The way we are ran is suited for a manager like SAF, but managers like that simply don't exist anymore. We need to get somone who actually has a clue to make decisions about running the football side of things.

Pochettino or Ancelloti are the only ones I'd be confident about doing well.

However I'm not in the know about these German hipster managers.

If we where to get rid of Ole I would replace him with Sebastian Hoeness. He has proven to be excellent with young players coaching Munich's youth team to huge success. And now coaching Hoffenheim beating Bayern 4-1 and in general looking like he can get Hoffenheim in top 4.

It should be Poch but without a DoF, a budget and three years of ambition it won't make much difference.

At our hopeless state I’d rather we just take a punt on a young manager like Nagelsmann. Don’t really have an awful lot to lose in our current sorry state.

The board will probably go for Poch or Allegri though.
