Next United manager 2020/21 edition

There's quite a few I would like: Nagelsmann, Rose, Hasenhüttl, even Marsh from Salzburg would be an option. Say what you want about the Red Bull clubs, but they know their shit when it comes to managers and players as well.

Bielsa would also be an option as would be Potter, but I am not really confident if the latter can really make the step up. But right now, there really are a boatload of managers who could do a better job than Ole.

In any case, each manager is set up to fail here unless something fundamental changes. And no, I don't even mean the board or Ed etc. It's this unhealthy obsession with past glories and "the United way" that glorifies ex- and current players.

Think about it, Giggs was forced on LVG as assistant, same with Carrick and Jose, now Ole must contend with Phelan, Carrick and McKenna.

It's the same reason we hold on to shit players for far too long, this sentimental attitude of rewarding our players for their "loyalty" and past achievements. All those guys, including Ole, are not in their respective position out of any merit but ties to the club. And most, if not all, are simply not good enough for what they're paid handsomely to do.

Jusr get specialists in, refardless of the club they used to play for for once and maybe our fortunes may change. SAF never had an ex-player working under him, I wonder why.

On my last post, would people accept Bielsa? Or is unsuited for a big club and playing manager (as opposed to coach)
I’d like him but I don’t think it would work with our players. Leeds don’t really have any stand out individuals. The character make up of their squad suits Bielsa.
Humble journeymen hardworking individuals.

We have a lot of egos and individuals at United. They wouldn’t respond to Bielsa. They’re far more likely to go crying to their agents and the board.

As much as I want us to have a proper coach, you can get one who isn’t a intense and strict as Bielsa.

Keep changing managers? We're not fecking changing them enough.

Guess the list of clubs who've hired more managers than us in the last 7 years?
Watford, Newcastle, West Ham, Newcastle, Blackburn, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham, Southampton....need I go on?

I agree. I'd rather us bag the 'next big thing' in management tbh. Someone who takes us forward tactically as a football team.

It shouldn't be him but unfortunately after our poor window and start to the campaign,it feels a little inevitable that Ole's going to be the one forced to take the fall.

I'm at the point where I don't really care who we bring in at manager or which players we bring in anymore given that the same incompetents above them will still be around.

Doesn't matter if we sign Sancho, bring in Poch/Pep whoever, I won't feel good about the direction of the club until we have a full restructuring of our football operations and bring in actual football men instead of suits who only give a feck about money
This is spot on.

We need to decide how we want to play first.

If it comes down to replacing Ole then I hope we go with a coach with a modern defined play style and I wouldn't look past Marco Rose or Nagelsmann.

I think Ole will be sacked during this international break.

We need a two stage solution. If we are committing to intense pressing, then we have to rebuild that way to the point where one of the gold managers will come. So Poch first, then Nagelsmann maybe.

oc Glazers and Ed won't do any of this.

Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona and more.... need I go on? Not sure what kind of point you thought you were making

It should be someone who can actually coach a team to play football, with United I feel they're being patient with the wrong managers instead of getting someone young with a modern approach if you really are trying to build long term instead and willing to be patient; so it could be someone like Pochettino or Nagelsmann.

I don’t disagree but that doesn’t mean sticking with Ole is right. The board isn’t going to change and I think we all know that deep down. Therefore sticking with a manager who can’t overcome their incompetence is a waste of time. We’ve got to hope someone somewhere can come in and make this team better than OGS can.

If the club can’t even handle the basics of buying, selling, and retaining players, then I don’t know how we can expect any manager to succeed here.

A manager works for the club, not the other way round.

Well I guess another option is just to have these threads going on for another 2 years.

Because things are only going in one direction now. Ole is finished regardless of the board or Ed or sporting directors or anything else.

Either way, it ends up in the same place.

IF Ole has to leave, I really dont see the point in trying to answer this question without the structure of the club changing.

I think OGS got a lot out of this squad after lockdown. Maybe a more tactical coach like Nagelsman sounds exciting, but none of these are his players, or may not fit his way of playing, ditto Poch (whom i really don't rate at all). So you'll need 3 more transfer windows to alter the squad, but all these coaches need a smart DoF to bounce their ideas off and for support.

I'd rather that the Glazers sack Woodward, or at least appoint VDS as football czar, allowing him to appoint a DoF and then let that duo decide what the way forward should be.

Appointing a just a new manager will achieve sod all. But if we really have to go this route only, throw the bus at Bielsa.

Absolutely hands down it should be Nagelsmann just as absolutely i said after Ferguson it should have been Klopp. As things are, it appears no manager is going to get backed properly in the transfer market. For me only Pochettino and Nagelsmann I can think of as managers who can be both shrewd in the market, work well with young players, organise the team to play pressing high tempo football and most importantly get the best out of players here. But Nagelsmann just has start quality for me and has done amazingly at such a young age

Marco Rose or Hassenhuttl. Gets the best out of our players but wouldn't work with Ed.

Poch wouldn't work because he needs good full backs. I know we are signing Telles but AWB would be a major concern.

Wouldn’t worry too much about AWB if he carries on even Ole will be getting rid

Pochettino with ole as DOF and Woodward back signing pillow sponsors

Just get manager who is not defensive oriented.

At least someone who is capable of setting up teams that know what they are doing, have a gameplan, establish a distinct identity.

Ten Hag or Nagelsmann come to my mind.

Allegri will coach Chelsea, we'll get Poch. It's all written in the stars.

Because having VdS at the club will suddenly give Ole some experience and tactical nous that will enable us to have a style of play?

No, because we need to address the complete lack of long term football leadership and strategic direction. Ole is not a top tier manager, but people who think changing gaffer will be the silver bullet are fecking delusional.

I don't think it's as bad as some say, but probably not as good as you think.

Why are you so high on Allegri's football?
Like Ancelotti and Zidane, they get the job done. We historically a club that gets the job done. His football has a great balance between attack and defending. He's shown he's a winner and shown he can match any coach going around today on an individual game basis.
