Neymar

Quality goal and assist tonight. The next year is huge for him with his first season at Barca carrying a £50M price tag followed by a home hosted World Cup where he has the hopes of a nation on his shoulders. It's a lot for a young player, if he copes with it and excels it will be the making of him IMO.

I think he has the ability to pull it off. Everyone who has seen him tonight has seen that he isn't just an ego player who always looks to score himself but a player who has great awareness of the players around him and an eye for a deadly pass.

He could be just what Barca needs on the left striker position in their 4-3-3 and a front three of Neymar-Messi-Pedro sounds really good, well on paper at least. If those three can kick it off together they will rip the Spanish league to shreds.

Non the less Barca still needs to address their defensive problems I feel and of course there aren't a lot of options left considering that they spend so much on Neymar already.

I just really, really hate him. I've no discernable logical reason for doing so, I just really hate him. I hope all his hair falls out and his balls tighten in an irregular manner at inconvenient moments in his playing career.

 I don't know why and don't know what it is either. I just can't endear to him at all. That hair as well... Jesus christ lol..

Normally I wouldn't give a toss but have a go a the rug on this feller. It's a bit ridiculous .

To be fair to him, he did change his hairstyle a while ago, but christ was that hair ever annoying. Always flapping about as he ran. Just looked ridiculous and terrible. He's gone up in my mind since he got a more normal haircut, he truly has.

Has the new haircut made him more skilful or has it made him a better team man?

The haircuts made him better all around, doesnt look as much of a cnut either. That hair must have been weighing him down so he couldn't play properly.

In all seriousness, I quite like him now but before all his diving and hair annoyed me. He's definitely overhyped by a lot of people, because I don't think he will ever be messi level but there's no doubt that he has the ability to be world class. He's below gotze though, with respect to the best youngsters in world football. At least on current ability for sure, and I think hazard has more potential then him as well as gotze. We'll see how he does at Barca.

Ive been a fan of his for ages but his diving is getting on my tits a bit. So many good players coming through, its hard for an old dick like me to keep up sometimes

Echoes my thoughts as well. Central defense and devaluing their cantera players are now obvious concerns. Summer is just getting started but I feel the ignoring of their priorities perhaps reflects a stubborn unwillingness to address the problem to begin with

I mean look at this hateful thing. It's hateful.

It looks like a Christian brainwashing cult run by Joel McHale's disfigured younger brother aimed at reforming young drug abusers with the chicken dance.

It's hateful, I hate him.

Proving quite a few wrong at this tournament, been effective and enjoyable to watch.

Lovely free kick, very good tournament. Some of his diving, 'playing for the foul' and 'going down easily' really does wind me up, though.

You guys are getting excited over a load of diving (including for the goal) and a keeper error on the freekick?

Nah, clearly getting excited over his talent. Of course he'll have bad games, he's still a kid, but your hatred of him is strange. He's far smarter than you give him credit for. He's not a player that will dominate a game, he's the type that will affect the game with his talent. He's never going to be on Messi/Ronaldo's level, and I think the likes of Isco could easily end up being comfortably better, but Neymar is still very talented. He does dive, but most players do, and it's disingenuous to pick on him for it, especially considering he gets kicked around the place in Brazil (ala Ronaldo at Utd). He certainly has a lot to work on, but your constant denial of his talent is embarrassing on your part. It's pretty clear you've watched feck all of him, to be honest (maybe apart from Brazil international games). I spent a lot of time watching him and Lucas (amongst others) domestically over the last year or so and it's blatantly clear who the most talented kid is, despite the external factors. People get lost in hairstyles and fashion, which is ridiculous really. You should just let go of your bias and enjoy the talent of a young kid trying to make his dreams come true.

Good free-kick tonight but not as effective all round as he was against Mexico. Are the BBC on his marketing team? you can practically smell the jizz from the commentary box every time he gets the ball. :wenger:

tbh I jizz everytime he touches the ball, nbd.

I think people are overeating his performances here they are better than what we have seen previously but still not good enough to justify the hype. We all knew he could score and that he is a skillful technical player the other parts of is game he still needs to mature in. Barca will be an interesting place to go to for him his natural game will be curtailed somewhat all that wasting time on the ball and needless skill will need to be cut out. Neymar also needs to be more involved he tends to have his moments of brilliance and then be somewhat anonymous. Coming of age? Not for me. The talent is there I want to see him succeed but the hype around I find so unnecessary.

Hopefully with maturity and moving to a big club will make him less of a dick... but then again he's moving to Barca.

The challenge for Neymar will be how influential he can be throughout a match. Right now, he's the flashy player who out of nowhere can pop up with a goal or assist. While this is great, if he can hone his abilities further and make himself more of a consistent threat, he will be a very dangerous player. It's clear at this point in time, he's still putting certain aspects of his game together. To me, he's not quite in the talent bracket of Messi/Ronaldo but with hard work and determination I believe the sky is the limit for him. A lot of people overlook this aspect of his game but he's a got a wonderful understanding of the game. He's going to need to shake that "lazy genius" tag though.

That's English punditry for you. You'd have thought when Pirlo pissed all over us that he'd never played the game before and that the BBC were the first ones ever to broadcast such a performance.

This is the truth. Neymar is going to take a while to dominate games in Europe, of course, but he certainly hasn't been excellent in this tournament. He has been at a decent level, and I think many people are overrating his performances because of the fact he's not impressed when playing for Brazil. There's certainly more to come from him, but he needs to do more to involve himself in the game. He's scored three great goals, though Buffon helped him immensely for his goal against the Italians. I also have a Brazilian friend who says he needs to stop with the petulance, and I agree. The puerile behaviour has to stop. Overall, it's been a good tournament for Neymar, showing that he can replicate his goal scoring form in a competition filled with "stars", but there is definitely more to come, and he can't allow himself to not get involved much when playing for Barcelona, which will obviously change.

I agree. His fondness for stopping and slowing down play will not happen at Barca he won't be given the space and time to do so either.

I suspect some are holding Neymar to a higher standard because of his hype. In truth, his performances have been good overall and he's had the productivity to match. Very good overall, basically. It's not been an outstanding tournament for him personally, but it's the sort of tournament you'd expect an on-form Ronaldo to have for example. Many are probably expecting him to dominate every game in which he plays but very few attacking players have been doing that on the international stage in recent years.

Best way to put it would be to say that if he played like this at the world cup with Brazil, scoring excellent goals and assisting as he did against Mexico, people would be talking in the future about how Neymar drove Brazil to victory if they won the world cup. There's a lot of nostalgia and exaggeration with international/European cup football.

Been impressed but to be perfectly honest Buffon made a complete mess of that. He should have gotten that easy.

I love that song.

I haven't liked it since that twat Pitbull's woeful remix.

I am with Mockney here - I couldn't give two hoots about his footballing ability. He has the most punchable face in football. Even CR7 pales in comparison.
