At this point I'd probably trade Earl Thomas for the 3 second round picks the Browns, Colts or Bucs have. :wenger:

Fecking Raiders. Christ we need a quality defensive player
This. Don't get why we didn't look to get a monster future LB in Edwards. Or Vander Esch. Hell, I'd have taken James, or Alexander. I get that we need to replace an aging tackle, but it was definitely a reach at 15 for Miller.

Didn't think Chubb would still be there at #5, very excited by that pick. Teams can't double/triple team Von Miller anymore with a threat from both sides.

Elway's shown a lot of faith in Keenum with that move so hopefully it'll pay off, still expecting us to pick up a QB at some point.

I'm a little deflated by that pick, Hughes seems to be a pretty good prospect and when Ragnow, Price and Wynn were picked the Vikings had a dilemma reach for a need or take the BPA. Hopefully someone like James Daniels will gently slide toward the Vikings but I don't really have much hope.

this is my position on allen's tweets. my position on him as a football player is that he sucks

Agree on the tweets, but what makes you so sure on his playing ability? I’m not saying he’s the next Wentz, odds are he’s prolly not. But what’s got you convinced?

I could be wrong but this year's QB class isn't impressive at all, watching college football it's probably the least impressive in a relatively long time, they all have big question marks, so I'm not that surprised to see the Broncos stay away.

I don't watch college football so I'm in absolutely no position to judge tbf I just go off what I read but I thought they were highly rated this year, or at least those 4 we've been hearing about for the last few months?

Perfect storm of desperation, early hype, the importance of the position itself, and teams trying to unearth the next Carson Wentz/Russell Wilson is what’s led to the early run on QBs in this year’s draft. Imo, don’t think it’s any better or worse talent-wise.

As a UCLA fan, I believe in Rosen’s talent but with that shaky AZ line (gave up 2nd most pressures last season with 217), I fear he’s in for some tough times. Could easily see Bradford and Rosen getting knocked out next season as they’re both pretty brittle. Rosen’s comments about being pissed that he slipped down and that 9 teams made a mistake and he’ll make them pay over the next 10 years or so.

They have qualities and room for improvement but the questions mark are obvious, the good ones Jackson, Darnold and Mayfield remind me someone like Keenum which is a good and bad thing, I could see them win but I think that they will need time to work peacefully first, they need to be calmer and more methodic. Then for me Rosen is an enigma, I don't know what to expect and Allen is a loser at college level, the last point bothers me the most because I'm under the impression that at college level, a top QB will totally transform a team.

Though my opinion is probably skewed by the fact that I see Fromm as a better QB than all of them even though he was a rookie.

Will be interesting to see how those guys fit into the NFL!

I turned off the tele and went to bed after pick 22. I see the Pats drafted two studs.

I'm undecided on the Cowboys selection. Dude had one starting season at Boise State and declared early, then has a great combine which just about any motivated athlete can do such. Maybe he's the next Sean Lee but with R Evans, Moore/Ridley, and Daniels/Wynn still on the board, was he the correct choice?

Yup, it will be interesting particularly since most of them joined teams that don't need to start them and have QBs known for being good teammates. Also in the end it doesn't matter what anyone says before or during the draft, we are almost always wrong.

So we’ve basically traded down four spots, exchanging a 3rd rounder for a 1st rounder and likely ended up with the same guy we would have picked at 14. Looks like a damn good trade to me.
Hopefully the Saints season turns out to be a complete mess.

Dont forget Vita Vea and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Miller had better be good. I am really not optimistic that Jon Gruden will be any good.

As a Squawks fan, I don't know how to feel about Day 1. Not surprised that we traded down, but I am surprised that we didn't try to flip pick 27 for a couple 2d rounders or a 2d and a 3d rounder. On top of all that, taking a RB in the 1st round is so unlike our recent draft history. As for Penny, I think he was slept on. His running style reminds me of Marshawn and he's got the elusiveness and ability to run through people that we've been lacking in the backfield. Schneider and Carroll must feel supremely confident about finding defensive reinforcements later in the draft.

That's the bit that's worrying me at the moment. Chargers D looks fantastic, Broncos, with Chubb, look pretty damn scary too. Chiefs aren't bad to say the least. Raiders D is miles behind that, even with Mack.
Broncos and the Chiefs both lost two HOF corners this offseason. Still havent replaced them.

I can never remember who my fellow Hawk fans are here, is it @bucky? but I want you to know that I'm excited for the RB pick.

The new OL coach and that new guy we got alongside the return of Fant and hopefully some decent showings from Brown mean that I don't think we can be as bad as last season at OL.. right?

DL, OL and DBs next please, we have four 5ths so maybe we'll try and make some moves up somewhere.

Talib will be. Peters is good but if he keeps this trajectory then he will end up there as well.

Talib is going to have to intercept a lot more footballs between now and when he retires to make the Hall. There are people with 20-25 or more picks than him who are still waiting to get in.

Yep. :) @Kearnkoff69 and @Hephaestus are as well.

I do agree for us.

I think we trade down of course, we then go DL, OL, CB, RB. My mind has drawn a blank after that.

Your priorities were spot on IMO. I'm not as confident regarding the OL. If our need and talented players still on the board align so perfectly, we shouldn't have picked a RB IMO (as much as I like Penny, from what I've heard and read about him). Connor Williams and Will Hernandez are still available, considering how much linemen get paid during the off-season and that not as many talented players have been coming out of college at that position, even ignoring positional value, I would have picked an offensive lineman first. He would have helped far more than any RB. I also don't care that we've improved on that front with Brown or that we invested the most draft capital on that position. Our line is still not good enough, that's it.

The 49ers have made their line better with McGlinchey. You saw the difference last year that Andrew Whitworth made for the Rams. The Cardinals somehow had a worse line than us last season. We have 4 competent backs already on our roster. If we had 3 picks like the Browns, Colts or Bucs in the second round, I'd be fine with that pick, but we don't.

Maurice Hurst and Harold Landry are still available, quite a few good CBs still on the board. We've lost Bennett, Avril, Richardson, Sherman and Shead. Need and very talented players still on the board align again. We are going to trade Earl Thomas for just one second round pick, aren't we? Since McDowell I just don't trust Carroll and Schneider as much. But yeah, we probably got a good player. I wonder, if it's true what Schneider said, that a team tried to trade for Penny, once they selected him.

Edit: I think we need all those picks in the fifth round, since we've lost too many players during the off-season.

Probably to the Pats or the Broncos.

He'd be a great pick for the Broncos. Some rate him in the category as the top 10 picks so anyone who snaps him up could get a gem, especially as the Broncos missed out on a QB in the first round.

Mayfield and Rosen were pretty good. And what rookie QB in recent history hasn't come in with big question marks?

How good is he?

Above average according to PFF (their grading is probably the most reliable on offensive line players). Their analysts are also of the opinion that average linemen hold a lot of value in today's NFL, since they aren't as many good ones coming out of college in recent years and until some young prospects are ready, it takes a few years of coaching them up. Patriots probably have the best o-line coach in the league, so that's a good trade for them again.

Thanks. Much appreciated.
