Well i dont see a big score line since we have failed to score against both Newcastle and wolves!.

Until we get reports on injuries then its hard to predict the score line and line up.

Id like SAF to experiment a new formation in this game.
What do you guys think of this formation....

4-1-3-2 .... ?

4 defenders with say keane just infront, 3 midfielders 2 of them wingers with one sitting behind the two striker. Just something i thought would benefit our attacking. We seem to be playing 2 defensive midfielders and then only having 2 attacking players and 2 wingers. this obviously has shown when teams really defend against us then out attack is easily stopped.

yep, after the Wolves defeat, anything is possible. Its pathetic when well paid professionals cannot do a job they're s'posed to do. if we cannot score against the weakest team in EPL , something is wrong. Hope everyone including Scholes gets it from SAF. Very bad day at the office. Strange that it had to take us half a season to find out we need a striker !

How about giving one or two of the youth or reserve players a run out?
I'd quite like to see more of Chris Eagles, and i've heard from other threads that it may be worth having a look at Paul McShane.

Just for the crap performance against wolves Fergie should play a near full team and rest only Ruud and keane, with forlan and bellion playing up front!!.

How about putting the first team out ,,,and winning the bloody game
How about putting the reserves out, and still win the bloody game? :smirk:

Give Forlan, Bellion, Ronaldo, Kleberson, Fletcher, Caroll and Brown a start.

Caroll

Gary - Brown - Silvestre - OShea

Ronaldo - Kleberson/Butt - Fletcher - Bellion

Scholes

Forlan

Carroll
Brown - O'Shea - McShane - Fortune
Butt - Phil
Bellion - Kleb - Cris
Forlan

Yeah i think united need to field a good side. Not saying SAF fields bad sides but we have drawn to newcastle, lost to wolves...this is suppose to be the time of the season where united come back from the new year and being unstoppable.

as for the line up i have no idea. i didnt think fletch or ronaldo had a good game so dont think neither of them should start, butt is leaving the club, rio is injured, dont know whats going on with giggs, phil is back, gary has been rested, kleberson will soon go on a holiday to Brazil because his wife had a baby and SAF is giving him time off to go to Brazil with his wife and see his family, scholes had an off day with wolves so its hard to line him up, saha might be in a red shirt before the game.

so in other words at this stage i cant make a prediction on my behalf.'

Kleberson is already holidaying in Brazil. I read somewhere that he might be back for this match. Saha is cup-tied.

I almost agree, but I'd have Eagles on the right wing. Hmm, can Bellion play on the left? Or Eagles? I want to have both of them in the team.

edit: I forgot that Kleb might not be back. If he's not then I'd play a straight 4-4-2 with Eagles and Ronaldo on the wings and Bellion partnering Forlan up-front.

If Kleb isn't back, let's play Cris behind Forlan with Eagles on the left.

Bench: Howard, Silvestre, Keane, Scholes & Ruud

Talk about having a strong bench... :smirk:

This time around, let's hope the boys go for the jugular rightaway, compared to the Wolves game. Early goals against weak sides are the best way to defeat them as they seldom come back. I guess it does not matter how many goals we score as its a knockout , but I hope either of Ronaldo, Forlan, or Bellion get a goal to give them some confidence in time for the CL matches ahead. Given his potential, Ronaldo should have 3-4 goals by now. All he has to do is shoot the same way he crosses!!

----------------- Caroll -------------------

Wes ---- McShane ---- Spector ---- O'Shea

Eagles -------- Kleberson ----------- Ronaldo

---------------- Forlan --------------------

--------- Bellion -------- Blake --------------

Subs

Steele
Bardsley
Martin
Butt
Fletcher

That would be my ideal team. Not much chance of it happening, but I think it would be superb.

Forlan up front on his own??, then we probably won't score any goals then. He should play forlanb and bellion up front in a 4-4-2.

well with kleb resting and ruud needing a rest alongwith keano and phil suspended i would play
-------------------caroll---------
--gary----brown----mcshane--fortune
--fletcher-----butt---djemba---ronaldo
---------bellion------forlan------
lets have a look at mcshane.
bench-
howard keane silvestre nistelrooy lee martin(wasnt he at northampton)

Djemba will be at African Nations Cup with Cameroon.
Lee Martin came from Wimbledon.

Carroll
Bardsley - Gaz - Wes - Fortune
Fletch - Butt
Bellion - Kleb - Giggsy(c)
Forlan

subs: Ben, McShane, Richardson, Eddie, Eagles

I see McShane has got a few mentions. I've never seen the lad play, but I'll throw him in as I doubt we'll use our usual back four.

------------- Carroll ----------------

Gary -- McShane -- Brown -- Fortune

--------------- Butt ----------------

Eagles ------ Kleberson ------ Ronaldo

---------- Bellion --- Forlan ----------

Or, if we're going with a 4-2-3-1, either drop Kleberson back and put Bellion in midfield, or play Fortune in the center of midfield, O'Shea at left back.

What ..just like WBA in the league cup!!!!!!!
:nono: West Brom will be very insulted if you compare them to Northampton. One is quite high up in Div 1 and the other is languishing in Div 3. ;)

Forgot about Phil being out. So if we guess that Kleb will still be gone and with Phil and Djemba not available, I'd go with:

-----------------Carroll------------------

--Brown---O'Shea----McShane--Fortune--

--Eagles----Fletch-----Butt-----Ronaldo--

----------Bellion--------Forlan------------

Bench:
Steele
Gaz
Keane
Scholes
Ruud

I think he'll play a strong team, but keep Ruud and Keano on the bench. We have just had a five day break in Dubai, plus we have no midweekers for a while, so everyone should be fairly fresh.

Personally I think it will be:

-------Carroll

GNev-----Wes----Micky-----O'Shea

Ronaldo----Butt-----Scholes----Fortune

------Forlan------Giggs

Bench:
Howard
Keane
Ruud
Bellion
Fletcher

Kleberson is going to be back in time for the match, but he will start depending on what training he has done.

Best day of my life
By Chris Charles

As Manchester United play Northampton in the FA Cup on Sunday, Cobblers fan Nigel Hart recalls the last time they came to town.
As 15-year-old Nigel Hart strolled down Abingdon Avenue towards the County Ground, he sensed an upset in the air.

On the face of it, little Northampton Town didn't stand a chance against the might of Manchester United in this fifth round FA Cup clash.

But maybe, just maybe, United's team of superstars wouldn't be up for it.

Ninety minutes later the dream was over for Hart and his mates, watching from the terraces as a rampant George Best smashed six goals in a famous 8-2 victory.

Thirty four years on, the two sides meet again in a fourth round tie and Hart, now 48, suspects the outcome will be much the same.

"It depends what team United put out I suppose - but I wouldn't be surprised if they won 6-0," he said.

Whatever happens, nothing can eclipse that crisp February day back in 1970 when the George Best roadshow came to town.

"I can remember it as if it was yesterday," recalled Hart. "Me and and a few mates used to go and watch the Cobblers every other week and when they drew United in the Cup there was a huge buzz in the town.

"We'd just witnessed the side going from the old fourth division to the first division and all the way back down again, so the people needed a bit of cheering up!

When Georgie scored his sixth goal I started supporting United!
Northampton fan Nigel Hart on the 8-2 defeat in 1970
"It was a really nice day, blue sky, white fluffy clouds. There were about four or five of us, all wearing Northampton scarves and hats and even carrying purple and white rattles!"

Hart, just out of school and earning four pounds a week as a storeman, insisted the Cobblers had United on the rack early on.

"Frank Large had a good run early on and everyone thought he was going to score," he said. "Unfortunately he put his shot wide and then George Best took over!

"It was the only time I ever saw Best play and to watch a legend like that perform in a tiny, three-sided ground was unbelievable.

"One goal in particular stands out - the one where he chipped it over the goalkeeper, but his overall performance was mesmerising."

"Having said that, Northampton were by no means disgraced - after all they were playing the team that had won the European Cup two years earlier.

"Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Brian Kidd, they were all there and Northampton got a big round of applause afterwards because they'd managed to score two goals against them."

Despite his affection for the Cobblers, Hart admits he also had a soft spot for United at the time and was not too disappointed by the result.

"To be honest, when Georgie scored his sixth goal, I shoved my Northampton scarf in my pocket and started supporting United!" he confessed.

You suspect 'Plan B' may come in handy again this weekend.
