Norwich City vs. Manchester United

Carrick and Giggs will probably even worse than we imagine because there's going to be no Rooney today to drop into midfield and cover for our sloppy midfield. With our defense leaking goals the way it is, I'm not sure the zero protection Giggs offers is something that makes much sense.

Posters like yourself are so pointless.

You basically just keep attacking and mocking everyone for daring to have an opinion. On an internet forum. This is why we're here, to express our opinions.

Attacking? I offered an opinion that the lack of respect for Giggs is baffling. I can't venture an opinion on something that hasn't happened yet. I find whining about a man like Ryan Giggs before a game to be pointless. You know why? Because I've been watching him win games for Utd for over 20 years.

I am not happy with Giggs starting before him but I would personally go and smack him if he wanted out after we struck through all his injuries.

In a way I agree. However, if we're not going to give him a proper chance after he has played well, what's the point of even keeping him?

Some of the attitude from certain United fans are absolutely embarrasing. Giggs is a club legend, and I've already read that they wish he'd retire.

Makes me squirm.

I don't think many want him to retire, I certainly don't, but it doesn't mean people can say we don't over use them or ask then to do more than they're capable off. We've seen giggs in a 2 against pool and sort of against braga and it was pretty poor, we've seen fergie ask him to play left wing and again it was pretty poor, but he's also played at the head of a 3 and he looked good. I think that's what mostly annoys people, we ask too much off them and it leads to displays which are tough for the team and not a good reflection on the player individually. You wouldn't see pirlo being asked to play in a 442 as a midfielder anymore regardless of the opposition.

So we have 2 wingers out of form, we have 2 midfielders in form. lets play 442 and stick Giggs in midfield.

Fergie wonders why we are starting poorly.

He's the next Nani on here.

He's got potential, he's not fat, he's our own Iniesta. Who can't play two games a week or even one for 90 minutes.

He was paired with Giggs in that game, which is a huge disadvantage in a 2 man midfield. You don't rate him, fair enough but this season we have played much better when he's been in the side, along with Cleverley.

We're desperate for someone who's actually good in midfield. That's all, really. We have no choice but to believe in Cleverley and Anderson suddenly becoming great players because it's clear Fergie won't sign a midfielder as long as Giggs and Scholes have two functional feet each.

don't get why Giggs is playing ahead of Anderson.

You keep mentioning "lack of respect" for some reason. He has been a terrific servant for United for 2 decades, I think one of the best players ever but that doesn't mean I want him to start at the expense of losing the game. He doesn't suit a midfield two, everyone and their brother knows that by now. I don't know how pointing it out is lack of respect.

Cleverely-------Anderson
----------Carrick

Don't get what's so hard.

Why do our midfield selections seem to constantly revolve around who's not playing well instead of who is?

Carrick and Young shouldn't be near our starting line up at the moment.

Has Ferguson not figured out that this and our constant shit midfield performances might be linked in some way yet?

In a league cup game. Whoopdie fecking doo. We also played Fletcher in midfield that day so it wasn't a 2 man midfield which Giggs struggles in.

So it's Giggs' fault when he plays bad but it's nothing to do with him when he plays well. You're bumming and blowing about how 'great' Anderson has been when his best performance was in the league cup game you're now deriding. Really?

It's Ryan Giggs fault he was shit? Who was he playing with against Chelsea?

Completely different, that was a three man midfield with Fletch sitting. Against Braga Anderson had to be the defensive one as Giggs plays advanced. Doesn't suit Anderson at all.

Cleverley and Anderson's combined age is 47 so it's totally like playing Giggs in a two-man midfield ten years from now. At least that's what we should tell SAF, he'd probably change the starting XI right away.

Giggs struggles in a 2 man midfield. That much is obvious, yet it means i'm showing a lack of respect because I think we have better options along with most others.

I think SAF will continue to use some manner of a 442 against teams of lower quality, like Villa, it should get the job done anyway, though I'd rather see a midfield diamond or a 433 myself.

I believe whining about him before he's even played a game because a player not as good as him isn't playing to be lacking in the respect he man deserves. It's my opinion. If you disagree then that's up to you. We obviously have differing views on respect.

Do Anderson and Cleverley suit a 2 man midfield?

Giggs will be fine. I hope.

Otherwise the shape of the team looks familiar enough. We just need to keep supplying the wingers and the attackers and we'll get what we need.

In all our matches off late we've had Rooney sitting deep and helping out midfield while today we have RvP and Hernandez who won't really be doing that. Giggs and Carrick are likely to get overrun without any help.
