Norwich v Man United - Sat 9th April

i think blaming rooney for the goals is wrong...he's the only one actually trying in the match.... and he has been a great buy for us!

This is the most pathetic performance of the Season..why did they even bother showing up at the ground !!

Game almost finished.......

Fergie is trying to hide his disgust on his players' performance.

Afraid a lot of this was self-inflicted by Fergie.

2-0 up and the Norwich fans still manages to throw a couple of coins after Rooney.

Bloody cnuts.

I don't think so. The blame is justified.

Watching the second goal again, it was such slack defending. It was a four on two situation in favour of us and not one of the 3 defenders had the presence of mind to pick up McKenzie. One defender ended up going to the crosser and that left McKenzie even more open. Watch it again. Paul Scholes could have covered McKenzie, but he obviously decides not to make the effort. You will notice him on the left of your screen as McKenzie finishes well

That was soo pathetic its unbeleivable, the worst team in the PL outplayed us, shocking!! and if there are no changes for next season we would struggle to get 3rd place cos even liverpools squad will be better than ours!!.

It's not fecking time for a new manager. Perhaps a few players, but certainly not a new manager. It's as if we've lost the spirit and drive we had earlier in the year; there's really no explaining it. I'm speechless.

Why is it that we always have to lose to the bottom team in the league? The same thing happened last season against Wolves with a 1-0 loss. It's all Fergie's fault for not fecken playing the best 11 available on the day. No one looked interested and Heinze made very bad errors which nearly cost us because he was taking to long to release the ball and getting himself into trouble. The whole team played shit and we didn't deserve to win.

Comment: What Fergie should have said
Paul Hince

SIR Alex Ferguson was not best pleased when he stormed out of Carrow Road on Saturday following United's morale-sapping defeat against rock bottom Norwich City. He was furious - and rightly so.

It is not often that the Fiery One is lost for words, but this was one of those times. Just a few minutes with his players behind a locked dressing-room door after the 2-0 defeat, and then straight onto the team bus without uttering a word in public.

Even his club's own TV station, MUTV, was refused an interview for the first time in seven years. Fergie's mood was blacker than black.

Punishing the fans by remaining mute? My guess is that he simply couldn't trust himself to speak.

But, mark my words, Fergie won't stay silent for long. It's not in his nature. And if I was one of the highly-paid United players who took part in that match, I would have phoned in sick this morning.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that, when those superstars report for training at Carrington, they will be welcomed with a hair dryer blast of such ferocity that their eyebrows will be singed off.

Disgraceful

What will Fergie be saying to his players in the aftermath of that horror show? I have no way of knowing for sure, but I've got my own ideas about what he SHOULD be saying.

He should be saying that what we witnessed was a football match. And United have no divine right to win a game of football - not even against a team like Norwich City.

In football, David does beat Goliath occasionally. That's what gives the game its great appeal.

What matters is HOW you lose. And, in the manner of defeat against Norwich, the United players disgraced themselves, disgraced their club and severely embarrassed the 4,000 supporters who made the nine-hour round trip.

And if Fergie doesn't point out these facts to his players in no uncertain terms, then he is not the manager I believe him to be.

All right, the Reds were without Roy Keane, and had around £60m worth of attacking talent starting on the bench in Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistlerooy and Cristiano Ronaldo - which was a sensible precaution, I would have thought, with Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Newcastle in mind.

But Ferguson's selection wasn't to blame for the performance and result.

Just look at his starting line-up - 11 full and experienced senior internationals. Didn't Fergie have the right to expect that a team of that quality would be far too strong in every department for opponents of Norwich's calibre?

You bet your life he had. And if the United players let themselves down, that's nothing compared to how they abused the faith of their manager.

In recent weeks, Ferguson has repeatedly reminded his players of the need to finish off the season with a flourish. It's stating the obvious to point out the dangers in not qualifying automatically for the Champions League proper.

The pre-qualifiers are a potential minefield, and elimination at that stage of the tournament would cost the Reds millions - and maybe even put a question mark about Fergie's future in the eyes of the plc board.

But clearly, from the evidence of recent displays against the likes of Blackburn Rovers and now Norwich, Ferguson's message has fallen on deaf ears. And on current form you wouldn't back them to beat Newcastle in the semi-final.

Remind

Fergie needs to forcibly remind his not-so-super stars that they are wearing the red shirt of United - one of the planet's biggest clubs, if not THE biggest.

The rest of us mere mortals can't even imagine what it's like to be on the fabulous salaries which are earned by the senior players at Old Trafford. Can you get your head around earning £80,000 a week? I know I can't.

Which United player entertained his club's supporters at Carrow Road or earned the fortune he is being paid?

There is not one player who has either come through the ranks at Old Trafford, or who has been signed from another club, whose reputation hasn't been enhanced simply by representing United.

Hair dryer

It's about time those players started living up to their sky-high reputations. Because they are not forged in a night club or by being a snappy dresser.

There will be some who are saying that Fergie is past his sell-by date, and that he should have retired to his gardens at `Dun Roamin' when he said he was going to.

They couldn't be more wrong. If United finish this season empty handed, it will be the fault of the players. Fergie can't kick every kick and head every header once that whistle blows.

I also hope that he ends his expected hair-dryer address by leaving his players with one final thought. However famous you are, however much you are earning, and whatever your reputation may be inside football, the club comes first.

And at a club like United, no-one is indispensable.
