Odion Ighalo: Manchester United player on loan until the end of the season

Do think we should try and hold onto him next season. Good option as a backup, and gives us something different to our other strikers

i hate this signing. But not for the reasons you might think.

Ighalo has exceeded expectations. So far so good.

But he's just so bloody happy and proud to be here, it's like when we let him go when the season ends, it'll be like punching a 6 month old puppy that loves you to the moon and back in the face with a knife. I can't do it.
We could sign him on a short deal

Really like him. Hope he stays.

If he plays like this and if he wants to stay it would be a good option to sign him because he is happy to come on as a sub and would not create a fuss. There are matches when he is better at leading the line than Martial or Rashford so they can play instead of James.

desperately wants to be here,
happy to ride the bench,
offers something different,
makes an impact as a sub,

is he not the most perfect 4th choice striker we could ask for?

If he plays how he currently is, he wont be going back.

Superb today.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think he should start instead of martial.
Ogalho is a proper centre forward......

The hold up play in those last 5 minutes was important, broke that city pressure and eventually lead to a goal, offers something very different from any other player we have, and surely that is one of the things we have missed a plan b, if the finances make sense then keep him, get a couple of years out of him.

Watching MOTD2. Just noticed how Cancelo pulled him down because he couldn't get the ball off him due to his class hold up play. Great cameo!

He’s the Sergio Romero of the forwards. Hard working and dependable - an ideal squad player that is a little different to what we have. If he keeps it up, no brainer to try keep him on.

I love this guy! Be delighted if he stayed beyond the summer. Make it happen Ole.

Does anyone know for sure when Ighalo's deal runs out?

If the league ends up being suspended until after the peak of the coronavirus outbreak, which the Government says is three months away, will he still be able to play for us?

It'll be until the end of the season, if that contract end date is 1st June, I'm sure we'll be able to extend it given the circumstances.

What if Shanghai are playing again by then and want Ighalo back for their games? He's their player. We can't force them to extend the agreement.

We have a contract in place with them until the end of 'our' season, so I'm sure we'll be able to settle that with them.

Transfermarkt says 30th June. With it being an issue affecting so many clubs, I think FIFA will allow teams to extend these contracts for a few more months but I imagine there'd need to be the approval of both the club and player (along with the parent club if the player is on loan).

@pascell @Damien Ok, cool, thanks for clearing it up. Lets hope Shanghai wanna do business if we look to extend.

Ighalo had to take a pay cut to join us. It is not fair to him. The club should compensate him now that it proves he is a very good addition to the squad.
Ighalo directed his agent to accept a pay cut if it meant going to United. Chinese money is stupid and everyone knows it, but it comes with the price of playing in a sub-par league that no one outside China really watches. Ighalo would make good money, I dare say at least the 100k/wk he gets now from us, if they were to offer him a full contract. But it's the opposite of China - it's a league that everyone watches and the money is slightly less stupid.

He may have played his last game.
If the season gets scrapped and we dont keep him then that's him done.

That would be unfortunate

What an inspired signing this has turned out to be. And to think some were saying he was signed only so that ole could siphon money from the club using his agent. Shame on you lot.

It would, but he’d be remembered very very fondly. We’ve won every game he’s took part in haven’t we? He’s been better than Larsson was, who is regarded highly.

I will be remembering Ighalo so very fondly after all this even of he doesnt score again. His story is so feckin cool. Life long fan, took a pay cut. Love it. Hopefully we can tie him down for 2/3 more years if the price is reasonable. I imagine the Chinese club will let him go for very little as his wages are a huge albatross

Ighalo really is full of quality. So much so, in fact, that it surprises me that he hasn't had a more storied career. His finishing is great, his hold up is great, his one touch is really top notch, he's good on the ball and is difficult to dispossess. When you watch him you wonder how he hasn't played for bigger clubs much earlier in his career. Now, I suppose China explains part of that, what with being paid a king's ransom over there, but still, I think he's better than what his career has suggested.

I do not think he is good enough to lead the line in any big clubs. In a smaller club he would not have the service either. At United it is ideal for him because he is not the number 1 striker but a back up squad player who brings something else no one at United right now has. This is why he is good right now. He gets the service and he also knows that he is a squad player and he is not selfish and try to play a team game. I still would like to see him and Martial play together up front. I think Martial dropping deep and Odion up front would be a very good combination.

The story that is Ighalo is romantic, and if this were to be the end, maybe even more so.

But don't kid yourselves, he'll get signed. I think it's a good thing too, he's the Romero of the #9 role.

I don't think he's anything special, however thats kind of what we need right now, a guy that offers something different to what we have, but has a love for the club and you just know wouldn't mind being the backup option and won't hold back the likes of Greenwood. I was like what the hell kind of signing is this when we got him, but if the price is right, and I think £15mill is in this market, this has to be a no brainer if he carries on doing well for us.

Apart from juggling the ball like Ronaldinho and smacking it in the top corner...

In the era of player power I think this is 5 mil too high

The guy is on the wrong side of 30, the Chinese expansion for football isn't what it was either

I'd say they'd easily take 10 mil for us to take his massive contract (and I think they have some forgiven limit redirections now) off their books

Win win for both teams and the player surely
