£15m is a pittance in this day and age, I'd be more than happy with that as backup option. If we were talking £30-40m, I'd be more inclined to think we could spend slightly more and get a better player, but that fee for Ighalo is spot on. Hopefully we make it happen, he's earned it so far.

Maybe the actual figure is really 300k, and we paid him “nearly” half his salary, as 130k is near 150k, which is half of his salary?

I seriously cant fault Ighalo if he takes the money.. that's just obscene amounts of cash. I do hope he chooses Manchester United. I've been delighted with how he's performed during his stay here.

It's premature. We always blow our load early. You never judge a player on unsustainable form.
Pretty sure they pay the highest basic wage there. Not on average but the top earners are in China. That's not counting all that's added to a contract like image rights and all kinds of bonuses but just the basic wage is super high in China. Billionaires that have more money than they know what to do with.

His goal return is what is unsustainable. At this point Martial, James, Lukaku, Rashford looked double their worth also averaging nearly a goal a game. Then the initial goal spike regresses to the mean and the rest of their game is put under the microscope. He may or may not be worth 15m when his normal goalscoring rate normalises but are we going off of that or just buying him because of the unsustainable debut form euphoria?

To be fair he could probably play here for 2-3 years then move back to China for 3-400k a week as he's associated with United (it's why his current club are willing to hike his pay up from 300k to 400k).
If I were in his shoes though, I'd be in China from this summer onwards, he's had his dream move, scored some great goals and he's loved here, mission accomplished basically.

How do you know on that city bit? They're rumoured to pay players from two sources, official and unofficial which would explain why none of their players are ever targeted by giants.

I don't think we need him and we are only offering him an extension because he has done well enough to deserve it, and technically we should give it - not that he is the right player to give it to.
I'd say end the loan and look for a better 'in the box' striker who can compete against Martial who plays deeper instead long term.

Would you really say no to a 400k/week contract in China, just to play as backup striker in Man Utd for 130k?
If you can really give up 270k per week just to realise your dream in a backup role, maybe you can as well quit your day job and do volunteer work in Old Trafford, maybe a stadium staff or something, for the love of the club.
His dream gets ruined by one manager who doesnt want to play him, one injury, Martial and everyone on top form, us back in CL, another attacking transfer like Sancho or Grealish will effect Greenwood and hence effect him-

I say 15m and max 150k is decent value for Ighalo. He's getting a deal cause he earned it and not as some 'pittance doled out of sympathy'
The Greenwood thing wasn't real. Just saying with him getting older and not playing games currently to staying at home and putting on weight as a joke, I don't see why we need to go for Ighalo rather than a better striker than Ighalo?
Why exactly is Ighalo the best we can get?
Ighalo served his purpose for me considering that Rashford will be back if the season does restart and if not - we might have a transfer window to get a proper striker instead if Ighalo himself prefers a 400k wage contract & rightfully so.
I don't think its Ighalo's experience that's importance to us - that he just plays a different type of football to Martial at times and we can and should find that in another striker long term.
Investing in Ighalo wont mean anything until we have to replace him eventually in a year for the exact situation we need now - a striker who can compete with Martial depending on the need for our tactics, a more technical and deep forward or more robust and in the box forward.
I just don't see why we have to have a soft heart for the guy whilst Liverpool have a Striker like Origi in after their false 9 in Firmino falls. We want to invest in Ighalo straight away? I'd rather give that to someone else or let Greenwood have that position because he might struggle to get games if a player like Sancho plays RW.

Do we currently have a striker:
- Willing to accept ≤ 150k
- Costs less than or equal to 15M
- Is well grounded and adapted to the English game?
- Good enough to lead the line but content to sit for the good of the team?
Surely Ighalo is not the best striker in Europe but if you could name a suitable replacement before discarding a solution that's already working.
That's all I need. Name a suitable replacement that satisfies the above criteria.
