There's nothing wrong with being pleased with a win. I am pleased with the win too.
However this shouldnt be the way forward long term, though I might agree that this is the best way for Ole to protect himself. Not the best for the club at all though.
One game at a time, buddy. That's all it can be right now. He got it right today, I don't think people need to qualify their satisfaction with today's performance by pointing out the shit we all know is wrong.
It's been 3 and a half seasons. One game at a time has long been passed. We can turn 500 corners and he'll still not be good enough. The more we delay, the more we lose from it. It's that simple, really.
One game at a time in some sense, but I'd much rather a clear philosophy and the coaching/staff/players that can work towards that. Then will we be a giant in Europe again, not like this. But credit for the result, and the performance was decent as well.
It's never that simple. Great managers can lose themselves, managers that look lost can stumble across a solution that changes everything, the world changes all the time in the space of 3 games. A good win against Atalanta, the same against City and we're up and running again. I'm the same as most on here, I've no real belief in Ole being able to turn it around but I always want us to win the next game and I'm watching it long enough to believe that anything is possible.
I appreciate the sentiment but it does not logically follow that because Ole got it right against a very poor Spurs side that he’s the manager who can lead us to a major trophy either in the PL or CL. Conte has won major trophies before and knows the PL very well. We should all celebrate the 0-3 win today we got lucky playing against a Harry Kane who’s downed his tools and a manager who got his substitution wrong today. Spurs we’re getting through our 7 man defensive set but they couldn’t conjure a shot on goal, while we created only three good chances, but brilliantly finishing on all three.
Up and running for what? A top 4 place?

No, I just genuinely do not understand what you meant by "up and running"? Up and running for what exactly? You and I know Ole is never going to take us to anything meaningful, so the only thing we'd be up and running for is a top 4 place. And considering the money invested and years spent, I find that very lacking.
Playing with 5 defenders doesn't automatically mean it is ultra defensive.
While this move is to stabilize the defensive structure, we will have to wait and see if the attacking will suffer.
I don't get the rant with ending the game with 7 players of Jose? I mean only Matic, Ledelof and Fred (who he didn't use) were his era's singing?
Unless you want to include the likes of Rashford, Tommy, Lingard etc. Harsh on those United lads for no reason.

Now that it is looking increasingly likely that Ole is going to be in the hotseat for a little while longer, we may as well look at the one standout achievement during his tenure up to now...
The record number of away matches we went unbeaten for before it came to an abrupt end at Leicester.
It does suggest that there is something there regarding his ability at this level.
I agree it is just one positive alongside a lot of negatives; but it is something.

Our second place finish and a European final has to count for something as well, surely. We're 3 points off city and top of our Champions league group and the whole world's getting on like some drunk has wandered in off the street and taken over the club.
While I agree with most that we have looked disorganised at times and a massive question mark hangs over Ole until theres silverware in the cabinet, it seems to me that this whole situation is completely over the top...
I remember us being hammered 5-0 by Newcastle in the 90s... Jose's Real Madrid were pumped 5-0 by Barca as well if I remember correctly.
Up until the Leicester game everyone was happy enough... people are all hyped up because Ronaldo is 36 and they think we should be making the most of his return and want everything now, immediately. Cant wait till we get a result next Saturday and this nonsense quietens down for a while.
Every domestic rival and their fans want Ole to stay... so much so they were all cheering for United yesterday just so that Ole stays at the wheel. If this isn't the most damning indication of his incompetence I don't know what else is.
No it doesn't. It came during the period no fans were allowed in the grounds.
Even if it came during a normal period, what matters is how many points we put on the board at the end of each season. Being undefeated away is redundant if you fail to win the majority of your home games.
Also another indicator of Ole being a coach who can only get results when setting up ultra defensively with a low block and hoping for individual brilliance and counter attacks. By definition that approach will always work better away than at home for a club like United.
I’m happy we won and this win was much needed for our moral and especially Solskjaer.
A board can’t plan for the future and make a key decision based on two three matches. That’s a given. The sample size has to be over a longer period and special metrics and trends must show significant negative variations if they are going to change direction of the clubs long term plan. Reverting to a more solid and a conservative formation with 3 CB‘s showed us and the MUFC board that formation, tactics and preparations matters maybe even more then always buying new players. We had Sancho, Rashford and Greenwood on the bench and Pogba was suspended.
From that perspective yesterday’s win was a good lesson. Albeit against a very poor opponent who also struggles with form and lack of quality at the manager position.
According to various reports the reasons that the board hesitate to not change manager is mainly economical and fear to hire the wrong type of candidate. From my perspective that’s a very defensive approach and history from other similar cases shows us that such passive decision making often ends up with even worse end results. Sir Alex situation 1989 is the anomaly. Klopp, Tuchel and Flick the more successful cases.
I hope the board is wise and pro active enough to make the right decision. Changing from our current manager to a proven manager with a successful CV like Conte (or similar) would be a significant upgrade in quality and it would from a statistical point of view make us more competitive and with a better chance to achieve both short and long term goals. Many will now point to our recent history with LvG and Jose Mourinho but in those cases the thought processes was correct but the candidates was out dated. It’s the same as buying new players. Two bad buys can’t prevent us to make third attempt to find the right player.

Glad we won, now hoping Ole is out as soon as possible
Considering how bad we’ve been this season, if we beat city next week we’re level on points with them… how is that even possible

I’ll celebrate a very tight and good team performance, where the players worked as a team. I think we needed that more than anything, regardless of any formation. And well done to the manager and coaches. If that is ok with you, of course!?
It's going to take something pretty astonishing for Ole to turn things around long term, he is only ever going to be a couple of games away from crisis until he wins a trophy, which seems unlikely, but I'd rather see him stay than us panic and get any old manager just because they are available right now, or worse still give it to a interim boss and see them overachieve and us give them the job.
I don't know who I want, but I don't want Conte, and I doubt the likes of Ten Hag, Poch, or even Potter will be up for leaving their clubs right now, so if the plan is for Ole to just see us through then I don't object, but if they're still hoping he's going to be the second coming of Fergie and not making a genuine plan for life without him then I do.

My theory about Ole - he's a decent/good manager who lacks self-confidence.
One of the hallmarks of an elite manager is flexibility of thinking and the willingness to switch approaches when the game or season demands it. But Ole is quite inflexible and needs a near-disaster to change things around.
This explains second-half FC, the Ole under threat plot armour, the unwillingness to change tactics and personnel during a game etc. Only under severe existential pressure does he discard his Plan A and respond to new circumstances.
And my theory is that it's due to a lack of confidence to trust his own developing thoughts or observations about what the game requires. I wouldn't blame him if he had imposter syndrome. The lad was managing Molde and now he's managing Manchester United. He's a bit out of his depth and he probably knows it deep down. But perhaps with a bit more self-confidence he could move up a level, but that probably requires consistent success and it's not looking like that's possible under him.

It has been so, for ages. There's nothing wrong with celebrating the victory. But let's see it for what it is, in the long term. It is mainly Ole saving his own career here.
We have invested all this money, with a vision to play progressive modern football with attacking excitement, top talents, promoting youth. Ultimately it is just one match, but this way forward would be completely contrary to that vision of which most of us wouldnt be happy with at all.
There is no reason at this moment to suggest that is the case.
While I don't think he can turn it around, it was good to not see gigantic spaces between our midfield, defence and attack yesterday. We looked comfortable both with and without the ball. Need to see that more often regardless of our formation!

The team looked well drilled and well motivated from what I could see.
Also, who gives a shit about the age of our front two? They were both class yesterday and were both on the scoresheet.
McFred were also great yesterday too, McTom in particular has been pretty awful this season but he looked great yesterday.

Looks like the ole at the wheel song is well and truly buried after the Liverpool fans . I never heard it yesterday which is great.

Look at his time here, Ole is very good at treading the margins. This week will end with another victory over a blunt City and he'll march on.
It'll take a majestic turn of form to bring that song back.
Hardly a rant, it was about seven sentences long and mostly positive.
He deserves credit for the result. It's a case of same old, same old though - a win when he badly needs one.
But this probably isn’t the long term plan is it? Solskjaer is right to try and save his job and if this is the best way to earn results (for now) then so be it. We can still work towards playing a better brand of football long term and then it’s up to the manager to implement it going forward.
Well we actually don't know. It seems like he has no clue how to have the side balanced and attacking, hence why he's been talking about something has to give etc. It seems like this is the best solution in his ability to have defensive balance.
Other than that, he actually doesnt have the time. He should have been nearing the end result of a machine and not only trying another direction now.
Yeah. It want like the warning signs were not there earlier in the season, it's just that vs Leicester and Liverpool we didn't get away with it.
I said it in another thread, but with such a star studded squad, I think he felt the pressure to play swashbuckling, modern football, but he and his coaches cobbled together some ramshackle formation and tactical approach in a hurry and it bit him in the arse.
No, I just dont spend much time around here. Some of us can see past these pointless wins which serve only one purpose and that's extending Ole's painful tenure as manager. The mans solution to playing attacking football is playing 6 attackers and his solution for sorting out our defence is playing 8 defensive minded players. Incredibly manager. Truly. Definitely taking us places.
This is why I will never ever forgive Ole for that shit show last week. He gambled In one of the biggest games in the world, and it backfired big time. That result will be remembered for years and the humiliation will never be forgotten. He should have been sacked at 6.30pm last Sunday!
