He’s managed and had a good relationship with Pogba before. I think that’s a major key.

Will he be available for selection this Saturday?

This all feels very weird. It would be nice if he could make a reasonable success of this.

Well, I hope we dont approach Sam by January. We still got a lot to play for.

Good luck Ole .

Something in my mind says, this will be a disaster. (Worse than Moyes)
Sorry guys :(

No need to be sorry. Any United fan not blinded by love for Ole would be lying if they weren't worried. Of course we all want him to be a success but the likelihood of that is slim and none going by his experience.

I wonder what made the higher ups choose Solskjaer. We still have a shot at champion league, fa cup and top four. If he didn’t play for United, I doubt he would be considered. However, I am wishing him the best and I hope to understand his footballing philosophy at United.

Apparently SAF was heavily involved. And maybe they wanted to give something to the fans as a way of saying sorry for the dreadful football we played the last 3 years.
A man who might not necessarily blow us away but will atleast play football the United way (I hope).

Thread needs some clips for the younger generation. Bowing to the fans after his goal away at charlton after all those injuries was a special moment.

And his last ditch lunge v Newcastle in 98

That's not necessarily a good thing, SAF went for someone he knows.

I've got to admit I'm not a huge fan of hiring people that have links with the clubs, especially someone like Ole who failed miserably at Cardiff. If it goes wrong it sours your memory of that person with the club.

I know it's on an interim basis and I hope I'm proven wrong, but I wished we went for someone with a bit more about them as a manager, perhaps even as say a trial run with the possibility of making it permanent.

I'm in full agreement with your points and maybe it's the Ole fan in me but how was he supposed to succeed at Cardiff given the owner is a joke and the squad was clearly not fit for the Prem (and isn't this year either) and how is that relevant to how he might do at United?

I’m predicting an excellent season with Ole offered the permanent job.

100% wins, win the treble with City/Liverpool experiencing an LVG dip due to their coaches moral went down to win PL, UCL and FA with Greenwood scoring a hat-trick in UCL final, Pogba being a man of the match.

Most interesting part will be who he selects in attack and where. Does he stick with Lukaku in the centre or will Martial and Rashford play more centrally. They've had decent spells under Jose but neither have been as exciting as when they first came on the scene.

I think it will be Smalling + 1 in central defence as usual and I think he'll like Herrera and Pogba in the midfield.

Basically, I'm predicting Lukaku will start as well because inside forward need big man strikers who can lay for inside forward like Sanchez, Rashford and Martial. I'm predicting Martial-Lukaku-Sanchez up front. They won't be playing winger but fullback will do that job.

Well...

It won't quite be Zidane levels at Real. But it won't be Shearer levels at Newcastle.

Something in the middle in which we'll all be content with.

I can't be worried. This season was already a write off due to Jose. It's all about 19/20 in my mind. The best thing we can do now is have a better base at the start of that season.

True, Tan was a shambles, and I did actually follow Cardiff a bit back then after Ole left too because they brought in Russel Slade, who had just lost in the play-off final for my closest league 1 team, Leyton Orient. From what I remember neither of those reigns played particularly good football. A couple of the players remain from that time, Manga and Rails being two I recognise, but yeah you're right in saying that a lot of Cardiff fans think they only went up because of Warnock, not the actual squad.

I'm hopeful though Ole does well, it's just he has a limited scope of jobs to judge on him and hiring Giggs + the class of 94 post Moyes didn't really go great either for us.

Saw a thread on r/reddevils about Ole's tactics at Molde. Credit to u/its-a-real-name for the work.

  • Molde play 4-3-3

  • From what I can see, they are largely a counter attacking based team as while they’ve been on a great run having not lost since August their possession and passing stats are never overwhelming and sometimes inferior to the opposition, always around the 50 range but given they are the 2nd best team and winning almost all of their matches of late I’d expect more if they were possession based obviously...

  • Also evidenced is that their keeper doesn’t get many touches which would would obviously mean they don’t focus on playing out from the back all that much

  • The full backs tend to be quite attacking and provide the width, and he does like inverted wingers, as most now do, and the 2 wingers heat maps are always quite scattered

  • It looks like they have one holding midfielder and the other 2 are relatively free to roam as their maps looks quite scattered too, but the holding mid also looked like he got forward and perhaps in transitions the other 2 midfielders take up the defensive space as they don’t look overly attacking either in that their maps didn’t show them in the final third heavily compared to defensive positions (but still up there)

  • He has an 18 year old leading the line (tall and left footed) who is their top scorer by far and has also missed a huge amount of big chances (showing faith in youth?)

  • Also worth noting is that they recently beat Rosenborg (the top Norwegian team) 1-0 but it looks like they absolutely battered them in terms of shots etc and I reckon this is their most recent standout performance. They also only narrowly lost out to Zenit over 2 legs in a Europa qualifier which would have been a massive result for a Norwegian team.

Is it official then? Or are we going based on the Norwegian PM’s tweet?

The mad thing is if we win 21 in a row from here it wouldn't be enough

Ole has always seemed like a very warm and charming person, I'm pretty sure the players will love him. Given that the season is already fecked, cheering the squad up a bit and instilling some confidence for next time around is about all we can realistically hope for.

Martinez is also a nice and positive bloke, but the Everton players ended up hating him.

Ultimately, it will depend on how cued up Ole is and whether his tactics work. We still have massive limitations within the squad in terms of having no true RW, our DM being on his last legs (Matic) and the inconsistency of our CBs. Make no mistake, this appointment is a risk and Ole has a right job on his hands.

But in the words of Grindeldepp, if it is for the Greater Good, so be it. The club needs time to choose the right manager and an interim appointment is the only way to go.

Best wishes for him.

What he needs to provide is good football and some positivity for the rest of the season. Nothing else can be expected as the season is already fecked up. Just provide some entertainment in such a useless season.

Man like Ole!

Nice vid! Think lots of fans might not remember how loved he was as a player. I remember he scored 4 one week v everton i think, was benched the next. Said nothinh and came off bench to equalise or score winner in next game. He put team before everythinb, i genuinely worshipped him when i was young.

I'm most interested in the personnel changes in the starting XI. Pogba will be back in the line up for sure. I hope Martial, Rashford and Mata are also regular starters under him. Fred and Pereira need to really step up and show that they are good enough to start.

Don't think much will change in defense as already play our best players. Maybe a back 4 of Shaw, Lindelof, Bailly and Dalot will be played a lot more.

I'd be happy to see something like

DDG
Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
Matic Pogba
Lingard Mata Martial
Rashford

If he does well, hoping the board aren't naive enough to hire on a permanent basis.
