Phelan never actually worked with Fellaini and Mata. Only players left from the Fergie era are De Gea, Valencia, Young, Jones and Smalling. Could probably count Pogba and Lingard too.

This all good talks, but the reality is this guy has zero experience of this level and have already proved his incompetence here at the PL, to reward him with a post at the biggest club in England when he has been a failure at a small club like Cardiff is just bizarre for me. His Cardiff team didn't play a good style of football to convince me that it was a board problem that he failed there, they were just not good, from players to manager.
The bold sounds like a deja vu for me; too similar to what people were saying after Moyes and Mourinho appointment. I get it people are excited with idea of having an ex legend as a manager, but ffs people sentimentalism will bring us nowhere.
I have questions for people who are happy with this appointment: what's his playing style? what's his managerial style? if he was such a good appointment, why has he never been linked with another top 4 club in any top 5 leagues in Europe? why did he failed so miserably at Cardiff? do you think being good for a nothing club like Moldes is reason enough to be appointed as manager of the biggest club in the world? What happened if he has us fighting relegation within 2 months?
If he does well in the next 5 months 2 things are certain, one he’d be a candidate for the job full time and two if he leaves his stock as risen dramatically regardless.
He’s not expected to beat PSG and top 4 is looking almost impossible, a good FA Cup run coupled with playing attacking football will probably be seen as a success.
People want the club to make the right decisions then moan about not getting a pedigree name at the club, they’re taking time to access everything rather than panicing and getting it wrong again, this is 100% the correct process. We have 5-6 months to appoint a DoF and look at managerial candidates, great stuff by the club.
It is a strange move, but I really think that we are holding out for Poch in the summer, the only way this makes sense. Will cost us Millions

It is not ole alone but also with Phelan. Now someone said Phelan has been out of football for a long time. No he has not. He took over a struggling Hull City with 9 fit players and did get some decent results but in the end he could not keep it up. So it is a team of experience and youth. Ole at Cardiff tried to get them to play a lot better attacking football and he failed. He may fail at United but I know that we will not be boring for sure. Players like Martial, Rashford etc would get more freedom to attack. Phelan will sort out the defence. If only United can get Vidic as the defensive coach for an interim period?
Its a gamble yes but better than anything because -
- No proper accomplished candidate is available for the caretaker role.
- We might have eyes on someone good who isn't obtainable at the moment.
- Ole will follow the club's traditions with Phelan assisting him.
- After getting an input from Molde's fans, he plays a very positive brand of football.
So not all doom and gloom I presume.

Actually pretty happy with this, i don't expect much but the seasons a write off. So all i want is some entertaining football from now until May.
Mourinho and Moyes had loads of experience in the PL and they were both shite. And both Guardiola and Zidane had no experience managing at the highest level and look at them now. So perhaps it's best not to judge based on experience alone.
Some people just want a shiny new toy - not what might actually be healthy for the club.
The footballing decisions at the club have been atrocious since Fergie left so it's hard to believe this is some sort of stroke of genius but at least it'll get the fans on side for the short term. We need something to go right for the club to get back on track so hopefully this isn't another appointment that will look daft by the time he's done, especially because it would be a club legend involved.
I think it was more to do with the style of play, Hughes and Bruce don't play an attacking brand of football, it'd be Jose 2.0 with less problem, Ole's brand of football has the been most pleasing eye to watch in the Norwegian league, high counter pressing, direct passes, fullbacks overlapping, making cut-back and put crosses for big striker and striker can lay it off to inside forward instead of being winger.
Seems like a pretty crazy risk that I wouldn't have predicted us making before the rumors. However, I can't deny that I'm more excited for the match on Saturday than I have been for a while.

There was part of me that thought Phelan stayed over for a season under Moyes! Apologies.
I love Ole, I really do, but for us a club to think that he was our best option shows what utter chaos we are in, and what an absolute lack of football understanding Woodward has. Ole has done nothing at managerial level to suggest he is capable of producing at this level. Hell, even Giggs in his interim role wasn't exactly an improvement on before so why we are repeating the 'emotional' appointment of a club legend to help us thorugh a rough patch is beyond me.
I hope I'm proved wrong and Ole is a success, but Woodward has to leave, and leave now.

My only Solskjaer, perfect as an interim. This is season is a write off already thanks to Jose, very few downsides with this appointment until the end of the season. In fact, it’s the most excited I have been around United for years now.
It's a coin toss for the rest of the season, then. You could - and I can't stress this enough - easily end up in the bottom half after Christmas. You could just as easily consolidate your position in the top six. There's absolutely no way of knowing how this will go, and I'm not sure United are a club in a position to hinge their immediate future on such an inexperienced manager with no record to justify his appointment.

This is my concern. It was very clear that player power had an affect this season.
Playerpower only works if the senior players collude so we can make a good guess as to who they were.
Now. They get their way and Jose goes.
What will they now be thinking. They will have noticed that OGS was a failure at Cardiff City.
As a result they will probably give him the benefit of the doubt and up their game.
However, as soon as something goes wrong or they are dropped or not selected, the doubts will surface.
For that reason OGS has a very difficult balancing act:
Too soft and they will eat him for breakfast.
Too firm and they will eat him for dinner.
People must realize that no unemployed manager with some reputation wouldn't accept a 6 month contract ever. They would all propose 1,5 seasons contract.

Moyes and Mourinho were just bad appointments and everyone could see that apart from our board and some stubborn fans, so their failure was not a surprise. Only stubborn fans thought that Mourinho could have been a success here when you had managers like Pep and Klopp as his opponent.
Pep and Zidane were doing wonder with their respective Barca and Madrid B-teams, so it was not a surprise they still succeed at higher level with the team and players they had. Ole has already proved that he was incompetent at this level, he stint at Cardiff was a disaster and nothing to be confident with; and sorry the Norwegian league is not a good barometer to assess a manager or a player.

Rubbish Hiddink did it twice with Chelsea, Rafa did it with Chelsea and Heynckes did it with Bayern last year.
This appointment just about sums up Woodward tenure, Manchester United have now been reduced to bringing in a manager effectively on loan from Molde whose only job outside his comfort zone of Molde was getting Cardiff relegated.
