Is Ole a good appointment?

Seems like 'tactical genius' to these people is the equivalent of having rigorous, overbearing instruction for players and the overall team. Tactics and strategy doesn't include 'keep it simple' or 'let them play' apparently.

Funny, I thought world class managers like Ferguson knew it was more about a match by match basis with adherence to an overall philosophy (attacking football).

Both Moyes and Mourinho seemingly sought to 'nullify' every opposition we faced as a first priority. Feck that for a game of marbles. United shouldn't be tweaking their tactics and overall playing strategy for 80% of the sides in the league - especially when playing at home. It's about what we do against them.
 
One of the big tests for Ole is going to be what happens when Sanchez, Martial and Lukaku are all available.

Who does he leave out? How will they take it?

Personally if we’re giving them all a free pass to prove themselves under a new manager I believe it has to be Martial - Lukaku - Sanchez for a few games as that’s probably on paper at least the best three
 
You know what is impressive from Ole?

That it's taken him two games to get his vision across to the team.

Maureen had over two years and we were an indistinguishable mess.

The will get changes - but it’s not just a case of OGS wiping the slate clean and throwing them in as starters. We have just scored 8 goals in two games (no matter what the opposition).

I don’t see Sanchez and Lukuku working that well together. They will both get opportunities, but they will need to do well to oust Rashford and Lingard - their workrate, ability to create chances and space for others is essential in how we want to play. Both Lukuku and Sanchez should get games from the bench to start with. Looks like Sanchez will be back first, as we have no idea where Lukuku is or when he’s coming back.

Valencia is 33 years old, we should be looking to sell him not making him our bloody captain!

Valencia is just taking up space from the likes of Dalot.

This is really sad to hear, and OGS has failed to make a decision here.

OGS is perhaps in a difficult position here as he’s just the temporary manager, but there can’t be anyone at the club who actually thinks Valencia deserves the honour of being captain. It’s clear that he’s the worst captain in our history.

It doesn't mean much, Ole is clearly trying to keep all the players on board. Valencia, whether you or I like it, has a part to play for the rest of the season.

I blame mourinho he should never have made him captain in the first place.

Having thought about it, it’s probably the right decision. Making another player, for example DDG captain for 6 months would be detrimental for the new manager - you don’t want to give it to someone, and then force the hand of his successor or for them to choose someone else and disappoint the player.

Keep him as captain, and just don’t play him, and get rid of him in the summer.

Agreed. Removing Valencia as captain introduces problems that a manger is unlikely to fix halfway through the season. If Ole just stays as interim and we get a new manager, he then has free reign to make his own decision. Even if it would be the same as Ole, it's more important that they can do that.

If Solskjaier gets Valencia playing higher up and reminds him how to cross a ball then we'll be in great shape! He's the best right sided defender in the club imo
 
Valencia will struggle in Ole new system he doesn't have the legs to run up and down the pitch now.

Ole isn't making him captain because he already is.

It's not important unless Valencia ends up starting lots of the remaining matches.

Valencia is currently the club captain, no point in rocking the boat so much. I doubt the players think much of it regardless.
 
I'm hoping that Valenica is just our Mertesacker now. Although, who knows, maybe Ole thinks he can revitalise him too. I hope he hasn't been watching United thinking Valenica has been anything other than shit for the past 18 months.

Ole has managed hundreds of first team ganes. He's won two Norwegian titles with Molde. He topped a Europa League group including Ajax, Celtic and Fenerbache (all from stronger leagues) with Molde. Ole also managed to win a game with Sevilla in the Europa League with Molde, something we failed at last season with our 'football heritage.' So why the disrespect?

He was never going to strip him of the captaincy. Doesn't mean he's going to play.
 
I don’t think Mourinho was far wrong in his assessment of Valencia. He was absolutely wrong in telling it to the public though of course.

I think a lot of people thought that when Mourinho criticised his condition and said he had “too much Holiday” that he meant he came back a bit chubby and out of condition.

I don’t think he did a Rooney and let himself go, I think he hit the gym and bulked out even more than usual. It’s the last thing a footballer should be doing, it will have effected his speed, agility and flexibility/elasticicty of his muscles which can lead to injuries.

Typical of Mourinho, he treated a player that made himself unavailable/useless with utter contempt and isolated him. Hopefully the fitness coaches have been working with him to get him leaner and more agile again. He could take a leaf out of Ronaldo’s book in that regard, he’s done a great job of losing muscle mass in favour of a more dynamic, nimble frame.

Heh. This place is quite special at times. There is actually a discussion going on about Solskjær’s lack of tactical planning and execution, with people agreeing with that fool of a ‘journo’, before 99% of you have seen him tested tactically. This after 8-2 goal difference over his two games.

@Bilbo we were supposed to beat WH, Brighton this season and all the newly promoted ones last. How’d that go?

As someone who has actually watched a decent number of Molde games under him; he is very much a modern manager, focus on having a plan for his team first, worry about the opponent second. Isn’t this what makes City special now, and Barca before, and most of the great modern teams? All of these who lack a plan-b? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!:p

Some random waffling!

I love that Ole is talking, trusting and using the academy players already.

United spend millions on the academy so there inclusion can save buckets of cash in the transfer market.

Plus a cameo appearance from a young lad would never piss a seasoned pro off! So their inclusion is just win win.

Adding Sanchez has so far done more harm than good (everyone deserves a 2nd chance tho)

Also we are only fighting for top 4 this season so the pressure isn’t the same as a title challenging run.

Play the kids! They score 4 we’ll score 5 attitude.

I little humility goes a long way, something his predecessor could never quite understand.

In truth, Ole has had a positive impact on not only Pogba but the entire squad.

He continues to impress with his comments to the media.
 
Apparently Mark Dempsey is back at United as well.

Former Utd youth coach that worked with Ole before.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added former Manchester United youth coach Mark Dempsey to his coaching staff.

Dempsey flanked Solskjaer during his eight-month spell as Cardiff manager in 2014 and briefly assisted him at Molde last year. Dempsey had a brief spell as manager of Norwegian club Start last season and took over at Kongsvinger in June, but only lasted five months and moved back to England in November.

Mancunian Dempsey, 54, began his professional career at United and played twice for the club under Ron Atkinson in the 80s. He took on a development coaching role at the club after his playing career ended.

Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant Mick Phelan returned to the United coaching staff last week with Solskjaer, who has retained first-team coaches Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna, as well as David de Gea's mentor Emilio Alvarez as goalkeeping coach.

Dempsey was highly thought of by former academy head Brian McClair, as well as Ferguson, during his time at United.

Yoof is all I ever wanted. Anybody who is willing to give yoof a chance is ok by me. I dislike this buy buy attitude of big teams. You need a core from your academy to establish something sustainable.
 
From a team that can't string 2 passes and play like complete strangers to exciting fluid attacking football in 2 weeks. The last 2 games was so emotional to many fans because it brings back many good memories of Sir Alex reign.

If the fluid attacking football continues, Ole deserve the permanent roles.

Agreed. Yoof is a great player. Full of energy, strong. Give yoof a chance. He's famously never won anything though
