He didn't, but his natural game was also disrupted by not playing as a striker. For some players like him who are limited to one position, that can impact them mentally in terms of performance. It's not the same running in from the left, and suddenly uncertainty in front of goal arises from that.

I'm not defending his misses in anyway, he was terrible. But Ole was at fault for shunting him about.
 
I don't get it why take Ander out of the team and start with Pereira that lad is absolute trash. Front 3 should have been Alexis Rashford Lingard. I hate to say it but Mata doesn't really offer much as a starter anymore and as much as I love him I think he should move on in the summer. He just got it wrong today and those 2 points dropped could be crucial come May.

Also sickening that it's 2019 and we have Jones and Young in our backline, fecking disgrace. Oh and to make matters worse we are going to have to endure the premier league title being lifted at Shitefield at the end of the season because that bald tosser Guardiola and his team are a bunch of useless rats.
 
Not sure how much I'd blame him for that. Play that game 10 times we win 9 of them.

He can't play the same 11 players twice a week for the rest of the season, he has to rotate at some point.
 
We are still unbeaten under Ole. Cut him some slack. We can't win them all, like city shown tonight and like Liverpool will show soon enough. The comeback and the fight we shown in the last 5 mins alone deserves praise.
 
Expected it tonight for some reason. His real test comes now and that's what we've needed to see before really judging him anyway.

The way we fought back was something we didn't see under anyone since Fergie though. Not with that vigour.

I know it was just one mistake, but Pereira clearly isn't up to it in general. Hopefully he's learned more about his squad tonight.
 
Simply put, the players need to improve their mentality and understand that they don't have any right to win any game because they're Man United. It's not a tactical thing. It's just we approached the game in a completely lax behavior thinking we're going to win regardless.

Ole made several mistakes in the lineup but it's still Burnley.

Also this isn't the first time we saw this kind of match. I bet anyone didn't think this is looking familiar by the middle of second half. Our players are just extremely arrogant in the wrong way. You should use the confidence of a great streak of wins to win more, not to be that relaxed and entering the match as it's already won before it's played.
 
Ole had an interview where he discussed reasons why things went bad at Cardiff, and he mentioned that he rotated too much.

He is getting back to his old habits. The worst place to rotate in a team, is the attacking front. The same chemistry and cohesion vanishes.

You can bring subs on at 70mins, but not start a completely different front 3. People mention that Rashford should have scored, yes he should have. However, he had been playing out on the left for majority of the game and came on for 10 minutes in the prior game against Arsenal. His rythem was derailed but no good reason! I still don't know why he rotated for the front 3 for burnley. What made us play well in first 7 games is from runners and Pogba finding spaces for the ball to hit.

Ole is literally playing Sanchez and Lukaku for the sake of making them happy, he needs to be more ruthless. I think the fact he was a sub before, he feels more empathy.

Dissapointing from Ole.

Rashford scores from that first chance and this match turns out differently for sure and we would all be singing Ole's praises for good squad rotation. We lost not because of tactics but because Rashford was poor, Their keeper was in excellent form, a close offside call not given and the ref having a bit of a stinker.
 
Okay, the rotation didn't work tonight. We lost the momentum. I really liked the finishing 11 against Arsenal last week. Bailly and Lindelof are much more solid. I have no idea where Jones was for Burnley's second. Jesse makes a huge difference with the space he creates from his constant movement. I think Lukaku cancelled out Marcus and apart from the link up in the first half it didn't really work. It was a Mourinho performance tonight. The Herrera, Matic and Pogba midfield needs to stay put. No need to mess with it. It works.
 
Don't see anything wrong with what he did tonight really. Could have maybe made changes earlier but players like Mata and Lukaku in a game like this just doesn't work but Martial's injury tied his hands somewhat, typical that Martial gets a niggle just when he picked up a goal.

Andre needed rest. Fred made more sense. But this mentality of giving youth a chance regardless of quality needs to stop. This is not a period where we can experiment.

Nope, not having that. If he'd scored those absolute sitters, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Players aren't always going to play where they want to, but he's a striker, and it's his job to finish. His position on the pitch today had nothing to do with his inability to finish. He had a bad night. It happens, but you can't blame poor finishing on his position on the pitch.
 
Probably the first match I can really say I’m disappointed in him. There was no reason to shoehorn Lukaku into CF for this match. It completely ruined the rhythm of our attack IMO.

Totally agree. It shows how tight it is in every game, and it will be an important lesson for them in the games against the supposedly inferior teams. You got to take your chances!
 
Starting with all of Mata, Pereira and Lukaku was a mistake.
Ander should have started, no point trying Pereira in games like this where we need points.
Lingard should have started too.
But other than that we did pin them after 0:2 and got a point.
I get he likes to rotate but sometimes rotations are not needed.
But as it was said here, little more composure from Marcus and we're 1:0 and cruising.

I'm not even sure about Fred yet. Keeps getting dispossessed. But I do agree he might have done ok against Burnley.

Reality is that McTominay would have done a decent job tonight. I'm not saying he's good enough for us, but he never got bullied by lower midtable teams. Would have kept the ball for us while doing nothing fancy which would have helped.
 
We do need to rotate. Our players get tired easily as it is, nevermind playing the same lineup when there's a match every three days.

That said, I do think this was absolutely the wrong game to introduce Pereira considering how physical Burnley are.
 
Had to rotate tonight, but probably rotated in the wrong positions. A bit top heavy in the end with Mata, Lukaku and Pereira who are all in no kind of form.

I thought Young's delivery was dreadful throughout the game, there was a case to get Dalot on that side earlier in the game if we were going to pepper them with crosses.
 
Individual errors cost us the game, but if your entire game plan centers around spreading the ball out wide to Young so he can do his best impression of Moyes' infamous crossing fiasco, then I have little sympathy for your approach.
 

He’s right about Spurs situation. They need Champions League football to pay off the stadium. We are in a different situation, if Poch came to United I cannot envisage him making such comments.
 
I'm reserving judgement whether he's good enough to be made permanent manager until the end of March, that's when we'll know whether we're good enough.

We could easily drop points in our next 2 league games, which would more than likely mean no top 4.
 
Obviously felt like he could rotate and get away with it. He'll learn.

Still love the man. Brilliant comeback and still unbeaten.

This is true. Up to the fringe players to show that they can be trusted. Hey, I'm proud of the lad. Still unbeaten and he will learn from any mistakes tonight.
 
Praised him for the wins before, but he got so much wrong tonight. The starting line-up was a bit of a mess, it's the third game in the row where he made changes to the team. But every manager get the team wrong and now then, what matters is how they react to it and IMO he took far too long to make the changes. I was hoping for changes at half-time, Mata and Andreas didn't look good and we paid for it. But to then wait until 60th minute to make one change is very poor. To then take off Lukaku off is was another mistake too.

But, we got the draw and we move on. I hope he learnt from this game, but there are weaknesses in his game and it showed today.
 
Don't understand some fans blaming Ole on tonight's result. The players he put in and gave chance are the ones to blame, there simply not good enough. We all know the best 11 now and we have a very tough February and March ahead of us, understand some getting rest. If Ole stays on full time he will know now what is needed. Deffo need another midfielder who is good enough to compete with matic and Herrera or take their spot in the starting 11. Fred, Scott M and Perreria not good enough to step up. Mata needs replacing on that right side by someone willing to be more direct and with pace. Rashford was wasteful, if he scored that chance in 1st half, Burnley would of had to change there game to attack us and we would of got a couple more to put game to bed but made it hard and Tom Heaton made a couple of great saves. 28 attempts on goal and 9 on target.
 
Did not like the make-up of the front 3, don't think Lukaku at CF with Rashford LW and Mata RW offer any balance whatsoever. But saw on Reddit that our xG was 2.87 vs 0.93 for Burnley? Should have won it comfortably. Players had an off-day, it happens.
 
I'm not sure if Ole's tactical were wrong, I mean we created a lot of chances, missing in the third final, Brighton defended so well and if they lose cornerstone for a sec, we probably could have scored a goal before Periera's mistake. Ole made sub right and we dominated them, they had 10 men behind balls. in another world, United could have won 5-0. I'm sure we could notice Ole's tactical gotten wrong if we were outclassed and struggling to make changes and shots but we didn't, it's on Andreas and Young.
 
Problem was the three people not starting in martial lingaed and Herrera contribute to us playing with pace and press
It also meant rashford wasn't up top making runs that Lukaku won't to create extra space for pogba to thrive

Saying that we conceded two sloppy goals and should have taken the lead and Also equalised at 1 nil down

Matic is the one who needs resting though, he has played so much football this season and always plays the full game, unlike Herrera. Ole got it wrong tonight, no excuses for me.

How? Did he miss all those chances? And Matic runs a lot less than Herrera, so it stands to reason that he would need less rest.
 
Disappointing to draw v such a shit team but equally it's unrealistic to win every single week. He's still great!

Needed creativity and urgency in passing against this strong burnley defense. I think fred would have done a better job in that regard.
 
I seriously hope people aren't giving Ole slack for this. We have just won 8 games on the bounce, including away wins against Tottenham and Arsenal.

Regarding the team selection, I gurantee you that Ole would most likely have chosen his prefered starting XI that he has used the last 6 league games in a row, if everyone was fully fit. This is also our last home game before we have two away fixtures, then we meet PSG and Chelsea. This was our only chance to rotate. It's not really his fault we lack squad depth.

Aye. Anyone who thinks that performance is a black mark against a manager probably has a lot of other bad opinions to share too. Cut out the defensive errors and you win the league playing like that every week.



Maybe he should have taken Pereira off earlier, but not much else wrong. We created more than enough and conceded little. What more do people want? If Rashford scored the opener early, the game would be in a completely different light. That was a good performance aprt from the two awful errors.

We were all over them from start to finish. They created bugger all and our finishing was horrendous.
 
Well, after a long time we have seen that players did not want to lose they were fighting for it. We did not lose and it is good but we have to go for new signing mostly fresh and more talented defenders!
