That's the problem. Elite clubs attract players with big trophies, player quality, an identity and money. All we have is money and everything else comes from the manager.

Managers are not a big deal for top clubs, just hire a decent one and they'll do well because the stuff behind the scenes is on point.

It's worse than ridicolous. He has been one of the most consistent great performers in the team. We drew the one league match he did not play.

Yes. He is in the prime physical years of his career and is in fantastic form. A negative that must not be overlooked, we better release him asap

We don't need him to improve, he's been great for a while, he's actually been pretty great in his time here overall.
And 29 isn't old for a player, come on. Especially one who hasn't had many serious injuries or weight/diet/general fitness issues.

Not wanting to sign 29 year old is fine as it's a big investment, but wanting player to leave because he is 29 is just ridiculous.

Maybe something to do with Sanchez and Rooney who looked shot when they are 29. I can understand not wanting to sign 29 year old players as it's a risk. They need time to adapt and if they don't then it's hard to offload but not giving contract to 29 year old player who is one of our best midfielder is just ridiculous. None of our midfielders comes close to Herrera's contribution in ball winning.
 
I can't believe there are people who want to sell Herrera. Crazy pills... He's in great form, won't be on massive wages, big personality on the pitch and we have a weak squad. There's enough deadwood to ship out to satisfy the muppet bloodlust this summer, don't worry.
 
Comments here ridiculous about Herrera. He has more interceptions than Kante and Fernandinho with much less playing time and is key to letting our attacking players express themselves. Some people are just too one dimensional in their views of soccer

He finished 2nd last season with the same exact squad for your info but why he wasn't back up by the board to push just a bit more to achieve our ultimate target ? Because Ed thought the team already good enough to at least gets into top 4 which has always been their main target , we don't aim for the league with this squad , as simple as that , you all see it for yourself , when it wasn't our best 11, we slipped because their replacement wasn't good enough, and we can't play our best 11 every game , there will be moment when we have to rotate and we should maintain the quality by having a proper squad. Mourinho threw tantrum once he knew he won't be back up which it reflected on players and our performance under him. He used to win the league before losing the dressing room, we are the only club he failed to do so. Man with 27 major honour by age 55 across 4 leagues, any of young modern manager would be lucky to reach half of that.

I have no qualms with all those contract renewals but we must get a proper right back, a class center back, and someone to replace Lingard next season.

He didnt have extra lung like Ji Sung Park, nor technical like Mata and wasn't clinical like Shinji Kagawa. Get someone like Griezmann and we will fly.
 
I don't want to tempt fate (since I want Ole to get the job fulltime) but the fact that Martial has signed a five-year, Rashford is 'about to sign' and DeGea is in the pipeline all sounds to me like Ole is in the frame to stay. Why would these players commit long term when they hated the manager as recently as two months ago, and were keen to listen to offers in January?

It would be a particularly foolhardy for the board to look at all the positives that have occurred since Ole arrived and bin them all for another mercenary manager who'll stay 2-3 years and then force us into the same cycle again.

The caf has a weird thing about age, genuinely must be linked to how easy it was to find wonderkids in FM or something. If they're the wrong side of 25 it's sell, sell, sell.

Ultimately their gripe was with Mourinho. Whether or not Ole stays, the board refused to sell Martial and got rid of the other guy, which shows they value this player. They might well have said we've learned our lesson, it could be Ole but if it isnt it will be another attacking manager who will value you.

Mourinho wore a hoody and hid at the back during last years memorial, generally looked like he didn't want to be there/didn't care. The board were thoroughly pissed off with him, especially when you consider Bobby Charlton is on the board and was on that plane. And he wonders why he didn't get backed in the summer...

Wasn't he in the front row all the time? That's what I remember. He has the pissed off look always and looked grumpy even in the 2nd year at the club.
It was weird for him to wear hoodies and track pants though.

Yeah I think you're right. It was just disgraceful to be honest, he of all people should have known the weight of the ceremony. You do that and you're sending a clear message you don't want to be at the club in my opinion.
