You really just have to laugh. A bomb left behind from some security drill, means they have to actually do the real thing. Someone has got some serious explaining to do, rather hard to forget to collect all the 'bombs' after a drill.
I've got the email saying they will refund the tickets and to reply if I think I can't attend. Some poor sod will have to go through about 10-20,000 emails today for people not attending.

And it went unnoticed till a member of staff went into those toilets 20 minutes before kick off.

With all due respect but this is an unacceptable! SAF was known for delegating the work to his staff who were all up to the task. Why do you think we employed the likes of Martin Ferguson and Phelan in the first place?
Must have been said a million times before, but surely someone within the club in the know could? should? have cottoned on to the fact they had a bomb training exercise just a few days prior and that may have something to do with it?! Oh well, it only cost us 3million.

They probably did. But with 75,000+ people involved, they simply cannot take a chance and have to evacuate.
Not sure why the club is getting it for this one around here, this is solely down to the security firm. I'm guessing it will be their professional indemnity insurance covering that £3 million, and at least one person is being fired today from that place.

Manchester United and Bournemouth fans will be fully refunded and given free access to Tuesday's rearranged Premier League game at Old Trafford.
Yesterday's match was called off following the discovery of a suspect package at the Theatre of Dreams. It was later made safe in a controlled explosion, with the police later revealing that the 'device' inside the stadium had been left behind from a training excercise.
All fans will be refunded and entry to Tuesday's match will be free, Manchester Untied announced.

With a draw Manchester United can move up to fifth whilst a virtualy impossible win by 19 goals would see the Red Devils finish fourth. A win for Bournemouth would see the club move from 16th to 13th in the final table.
Hours after the evacuation Manchester United announced the rescheduling: "We can confirm that today's abandoned fixture between Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth will be played on Tuesday 17 May at 8:00pm.
"We would like to thank Manchester United's staff, the police and other emergency services for all their efforts today as well as rearranging the match for this coming Tuesday.
"Both Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth's management has been extremely helpful in reaching a swift resolution, which is the best possible given today's events."

It's pissing me off that people on here are blaming Utd and calling us a farse, this is 100% all on the security team that leaves a bomb. How do we even know that the stewards, police etc knew that the security team was in the week before, there's just no way they could risk it. We responded brilliantly and showed just why we set the example in this department. That security firm is gonna be covering the costs I'm guessing and there will certainly be enquire so their end.
It's our grounds and our contractor we're responsible. Pretending that we have no involvement in either activity 'is a bit ridiculous'.
I imagine they'll be a thorough retraining of the grounds staff at the minimum. Oh and more careful management by our site managers of course.
I think the club have to hope the police/army don't try and sue for the cost of their wasted resource. Wouldn't be suprised if some compensation was delivered.

There should be no replay. United should forfeit the match as they have failed to fulfill a fixture due to something that was entirely in their control - the device was left by a Company contracted by United and United failed to find the device over a period of several days. Do they not sweep the stadium every day ?
Anyway, the PL should reverse their decision and award 3 points to Bournemouth.

The club appoints the security company. If the company the club appoints are not up to scratch that ultimately is the clubs fault.

I had to make my way down from Tier 3 yesterday when they evacuated and it was rammed on the (narrow) stairs which take a decent amount of time to go up and down at the best of times. There were lots of anxious people and I passed plenty of slower/elderly and some disabled fans on the stairs and I was worried for them if more of a panic set in. Even though the device was nothing in the end there could still have been people hurt.
Not yet known if it is them or not though with part of the training on their website IED awareness it could be. Sucks for them if it is as OT is emblazoned all over their website with a quote from Fergie on there too.
On the plus side, this literal farce opens Woody up to finding us a new disaster contingency plan training partner.
It's not rocket science. We're responsible for anyone we let into the stadium not to mention carrying out proper checks before the match and ultimately it's our name splashed across all the papers this morning.

You answer my reply of 16:40 at 04:20, almost 12 hours later, with the benefit of hindsight! My whole point was that, at the time I wrote it, there had been absolutely no official statement or comment from the club, the police or any other "official" network, even the SKY pundits had been evacuated to the car park of OT. So, as I said in my message I would rather wait for confirmation than react to a one-off report from any TV network (American or otherwise), or Twitter blogger, that a "suspicious package" had been found. Turns out it wasn't a "package" anyway so I was proved to be right.
