Owen Hargreaves | 2009/10 Performances

Who cares Chief.

It doesnt take much sense to see that Hargreaves and Anderson simply aren't that good passing players. They are both harriers. I think it is an awful combination if they to be played in any game, especially at home.

Its worrying that Fergie splashed out nearly £40M on the two.

Of course you know more than Ferguson, we bow to your genius

Anderson is 20. He has a lot of potential for growth to be an attacking behemoth from the midfield. Some of the tools are in place, he needs to be more disciplined in a 2 man midfield.

Hargreaves has never had an extended run in the midfield due to injury troubles. Based on what I have seen of him he is a very good midfield player who can do more than hustle and harry.

If Hargreaves gets back to fitness, I have no problem with Ferguson utilizing the partnership.

You are embellishing Pogue. Our midfield were excellent that day. It was not set up to dominate. It was set up to restrain Gerrard, restrict Liverpool's movement, and rely on Rooney, Ronaldo or Tevez to get the needed goal to win. It worked. Would you describe our performance at the Nou Camp that season as poor?

Sometimes it's best to understand your limitations and work well within them. Hargreaves and Anderson did this well at Anfield and Emirates. It is not surprising all our games at these arenas have ended up in a loss since then.
Spot on. It's amazing people wanted us to go to Anfield and out play an inform 3 man midfield of Xabi, Gerarrd and Mascherano, on their home patch or even match them. With a midfield of 2 newbies, one of them a teenager. When we had been dominated on that same patch even with an inform Scholes and Carrick paired together the previous year. & have been ever since that game in which the two newbies played.

Anderson and Hargreaves were outstanding at their job at Anfield that day. Which was to contain Liverpool'a midfield, lock up Gerard, while leaving our outstanding back four to mop up anything that fell to Liverpool's forward from long range efforts or attempted crosses. & it worked a treat. Liverpool never looked like leveling that game.

Andersons nearly 22.

The partnership is awful. Two players running around, tackling, and getting in the face of the opposition. But when we have the ball, useless. Completely useless.

It may work away from home at places like the Emirates. But it still annoys me. I hate watching it.
A Carrick and Fletcher partnership would be so much better, they can still defend just as well, but can actually pass all day long too. In the final third, Carrick/Fletch may lack the touch of attacking edge(where we need a new player) but in defence, they would be fine.

People who understand the realities of football.

It doesn't take much sense to see that is bollocks. Anderson is a good passing player. His passing is just inconsistent. & no one has seen the best of Hargreaves in a United shirt. Not by a long shot.

That is why you are an armchair ''football guru'' and SAF is a living football legend.

I wouldnt swap SAF for anyone.

But he is not perfect.

He's still young.

Completely useless? Wow.

It worked, and works. As displayed painfully on so many occasions in the past, we tend to get embarassed in midfield when we try to play the usual 4-4-2. It is no coincidence we won the European cup in 07-08 based on our defensive rigidity and Ronaldo's lethal streak. Arsenal would kill to have someone like Hargreaves in their squad.

Their best games have been as part of a midfield 3.

There are seemingly 3 constances in life now. Death, taxes, and Hargreaves back in 3 weeks

Constants. If you're going to get a publishing deal on all your ruminations here we might as well get a leg up on the spelling and save some money on the proofreaders.

back for city at home i hope...him and diouf to be the key to the rest of our season!

Oh really?

So that'll be why one of your 'inform midfield 3' didnt even play that match, and hadnt played for 6 weeks prior to that. And infact, you're 'inform 3' (that has turned out to actually be 2) lost 3-1 to Reading just the week before. Some form that.

You're just making it up as you go along chief

Reading??? Am I reading that correctly?

 I'll only admit to one thing. I got my ears terribly mixed up.

But one my point still remains. Liverpool have dominated us at Anfrield for even with passers in the side. So for people to act like it was a crime for 2 newbies to got to Anfield and help us shut up shop, is very strange to say the least.

Exactly.

Somewhere there's a guy in a bunker getting ready to type in some numbers to reset the Hargreaves cycle.

when is the next reserves match ?
might get to see hargo and mame

One day, you'll see a 40 year old Canadian / Englsh midfield player which you vaguely recognise, making his comeback one day at a distant ground, but you won't be able to remember who it is, or who he played for, or even how long it was since he had played his last game

Good to hear about Hargo at least doing training other than just some off to the side with some coaches.

Well I hope it's real at least - there weren't any quotes around him training with the reserves. I saw it in the United/Birmingham preview on SSN.

Diouf and him to rip apart the dipper reserves ;)

If he plays for the reserves against the Dippers, it will be an interesting battle in midfield: Hargreaves vs Aquilani
