If by tactical genuis you mean to play amateur football that has all the halmarks of the Andorran or Faroese national football team.

The defensive display was pathetic, there were not any attempts to win the ball, just to conceed set pieces ... if they had done a "Rangers" and parked the bus and played antifootball I'd be content, but instead it was just dirty football you'd expect from the old Wimbledon sides of the 90's.

Apart from Park, there was nothing clean defensively from United's forward six.

Real Madrid probably didn't stoop to United's level hacking everyone in a Red and Blue striped shirt.

Who is this clown and how has he managed to rack up over 6000 posts?

Anyway, just fyi Maureen was manager of a club called INTER MILAN/FC Internazionale not fecking Real Madrid.

Alex Ferguson latest on Owen Hargreaves:

"Owen Hargreaves has done exceptionally well since he's come back, we've been quite surprised about that. But we keep waiting to see if he can get through maybe say two or three weeks or even a month, without any mishaps. Or any reaction to his previous injury. And if he does that then he's definitely a first team player, there's no question about that, he'll be right into the squad, because he is an outstanding footballer he's just had a nightmare two years. We're checking all the time about how he's coping with it, so far, he's been terrific, his training sessions have been excellent, he's joined in with the players all the time and it's an important step forward for him."

Sounds a very sensible approach to me from Fergie.

This sounds promising if he got through regular training and had no reaction yet and is looking good in training.

Hargreaves, if fit, will be a big boost.

Can't wait for him to be part of the squad. Adds a good dimension to the side, whether its free kicks, playing on the right side of midfield/defence or just adding energy to the midfield. Fletcher needs a rest soon to rediscover his form aswell.

@ eat0me: Let's hope it really is only another 2-3 weeks this time. ;)

If he can be 90% the player he used to be then he'll be an inmense boos-up to our squad. In my opinion, you need players like that to win mayor trophies.

I still think Rome would have been different had we got Fletch and Hargo :( (I know, I know).

I said the same last year after the final. If we'd had a Fletch or Hargreaves that night, I think we'd have won.

I absolutely love this part:

Shows how highly SAF rates the curly haired one.

Which is why nobody should be doubting Owen. SAF knows his stuff, some people seem to ignore that when they go criticising decisions made

SAF's views on Hargreaves have never really been in question. Its the CAF "experts", eager to proclaim his demise the moment a setback was reported who are the real problem.

This looks as if they are looking at him playing some part against Wolves in the Carling Cup. It would be the ideal game for him to play some part in, and then a couple of reserve team games before selection for a league game.

Couldn't we start him out against a less thug-life team? Karl Henry v Hargo in the middle of the park is an accident waiting to happen.

i'm very much looking forward to it, but as was said, not if it's wolves.

It's at Old Trafford, I'm not even saying play him from the off, say with 20 mins to go and we are 2 up say, bring him on, for a run out. However, should it be Wolves and he comes through unharmed that's a bigger plus isn't it? Plus, if your that worried his knee's are that fragile, any tackle from any one be it a19 year old reserve from Blackpool or Ronaldo in a Champions League semi final, could end Hargreaves full stop. We shouldn't fear who he plays against and nor should he.

yes i sort of agree there, it's just that wolves seem to have been particularly thuggish so far.

Nice couple of provisos there but (and I hope I am wrong), judging from what we've seen with Hargreaves so far, might as well read, "We're hoping to go out to Holland for a bit of R&R during International week and, provided we can keep Rooney out of the brothels, should be a good wee break for us."

We basically just need to wait and see whether he gets injured again or not in the next month.

You didnt say playing well or exceptionally. You said

If he comes back playing at all and he is anyway decent.

Perhaps you should read your own posts.

Yea, I said anyway decent. If he comes back playing at all, whatsoever, and he can kick a ball, he'll be given a new, albeit most likely a short term contract. To suggest that he will be dumped if he is not good is ridiculous. He'll be given the chance.

For all those worrying about which teams to play him against. For his type of injury it doesn't matter if it's Wolves, Arsenal or Barcelona. If he gets a relapse on his injury it won't be from a tackle or a sharp turn or anything like that. It's not like a ligament injury and a relapse could come as easily on a treadmill as against Wolves.

Is he due to play a reserve game sometime soon?

Haven't seen anything about that. From SAF's comments posted earlier - sounds like they are going to let him continue to train with the team for a few weeks to see if there is any reaction and take it from there.

Does the fact that Henry will now get a 3 match ban for his sending off and thus misses the trip to OT mean Hargreaves may get a game as no thugs will be playing??

Do you think we should leave out every player against Wolves in case they tackle hard? Hargreaves is not more likely to sustain an injury to a bad tackle than any other player in our squad, and that hypothetic injury would not have anything to do with his current (hopefully past) knee injury.

Maybe the injury will return, we'll see. But it doesn't depend on who we play, at what stadium or where he plays so let's put that to rest now.

Written text doesn't always show sarcasm does it? I'd already made the point that it could be any one at any point that may cause Hargreaves to break down. I'd rather he play against someone like Henry anyway, to get rid of the nay sayers. However, we've got another couple of weeks to go before the Wolves game, anything can happen in that time. With Hargreaves it's tended to happen, so touch wood, fingers crossed or which ever hocum pocus superstious thing you do, do it so we may get to see him play again.

Sorry, it's just that I've seen that point made a million times and it just doesn't make sense. I can understand why people would think it does but having the exact same problems as Hargreaves (although no Steadman, so I'm fecked) I know a bit about the injury and how it affects you.

Fergie has said Hargreaves is struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up.

"It's a bad blow for the lad and it's hard to take given the length of time he's been out and the amount of football he has missed."

Bad news but at least no mention of the knees. Every cloud n all that...
