Owen Hargreaves' injuries | Fergie: I don't see him playing again this season

One of the best players in the league, and we're still going strong. Amazing. It will probably come to a point when his absent will become more obvious. I'd dare Liverpool to rest/sideline their players the way we have done and see where they'd be in the league.

Comedy gold. Take a bow son, take a bow!

That doesnt really look like Hargreaves to me

Hargreaves is the one on the left not the one on the right, mate

Look forward to his return - he was excellent in the second half of last season, when the going got tough.

Oh yeah, Owen Hargreaves plays for us.

Oh yeah, Owen Hargreaves plays for us.

yeah, feels like that doesn't it! Still I feel abit sorry for him. Hes a decent well meaning chap who has been very unlucky in his time with us. He was brilliant in the CL final and Im glad for him that he got to participate in that.

Really hope he can overcome these problems as he has a major contribution to make, esp as the likes of Giggs & Scholes fade away.

took him a while to settle, then he was brillant, one of our best players closing in on the title, brilliant in europe as well

i miss him he would have been quality in some of the matches we have played

Fletcher has stolen his spot in CM with the way he has played this season and will have a big task in getting back in a regular CM Spot with Carrick also cementing his claim as a first teamer. .

However Hargreaves would be a great back up as a right winger and even emergency right back when needed, better than fletcher in both of these two position. He has good pace, good tenacity when tackling and plus he has good crossing and he takes a decent fk when required, just ask Arsenal. I feel he is a good choice for fk taker as oppose to ronaldo taking every one of them.

Are you serious when you don't consider him as one of the best players in the league? Just think back on that CL game vs Roma when the man was everywhere. In my eyes he's outstanding with his speed, crosses, freekicks, physical (the times he's fit) and a lot of other good attributes such as being fecking versatile.

He is world clas sonly chipped in with cameos last year but won the league with one kxik

And what a goal as well.

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has taken the first hesitant steps on the road to full fitness after having a second knee operation.
The £17million midfielder was on crutches after surgery in Colorado to fix the long-standing tendinitis problem that is threatening to wreck his career.

Worry: Injured Owen Hargreaves on crutches at the Stigman Hawkins knee surgery and rehab center in Vail, Colorado

The 28-year-old is due back in England this week to start rehabilitation and hopes to take part in pre-season training.
But time could be running out on his plans to revive an England career that has earned him 42 caps.
A source close to the player said: 'Owen hopes the operation was successful but we have to wait and see.'

He is old.. :(

There was an good interview with the Dr. who operated on him on CNN last night.

Good player, I like him but we paid far over the odds. And i'm amazed we've done fairly well so far without him in the side, just hope we don't draw barca again... :nervous:

He wont be fit for the start of the season, most likely it will be the beginning of next year, if ever. sadly, Biggest waste of money we have had.

Putting Hargreaves in your fantasy team for the start of the season isnt the smartest thing to do.

I gather...

I'll go with Fletcher at 5.5 then (absolute bargain)

would he get many points? He doesn't score many, or get many assists. His job for United is to close down space and pass the ball on - you don't get many FPL points for that.

He'll get points from clean sheets, bonuses, and from what he showed in the second part of the season last year, he has started to make runs into the box.

5.5 and he can sit on the bench;)

So back to the point lads - has anyone heard anything regarding his injury ? All I see are rumours on several football sites that he may be out for a further 6 months and is aiming for Jan. Dunno if it's speculation, but there's no sign of him training or anything. We could really do with him for the coming season

i read that all over the press about a month ago, when it wad sayinb there was even doubts over his career

Yeah thats all theres been, a few articles in the Sun and Mirror saying he would be out till Jan. And the BBC running a story about how he fears for his career and it could be the end.

No offical word from United so god only knows if its true

I'm sure there was another thread recently in which someone said he was gonna be back for pre season training.

Although i have also heard the January rumours.

If he is back for the entire season it could be a huge boost for the club (I think if he is able to stay injury free he could be a top player at united)

on a side note does anything special happen with his contract if he dosnt play for an entire season (especially if its 2)?

I honestly think that Hargo will be the most important player for us next season if he gets to play at all - and gets a decent number of games.

I think he will, and is the best person to, sit front of the defence and tidy everything up and hence allow Carrick to to sit just in front of him and start the attacks from 10 yards ahead of Hargreaves instead of being the one that is sat 3 yards in front of the defence.

I just think that Hargreaves is the key to allowing our midfield to operate at its optimum and therefore get the most out of our team.

* N.B. I am presuming (and hoping) that we are going to be playing some form of 4-3-3 this season with Hargo, Carrick and A.N.Other in midfield and also basing my thoughts on, probably overly-optimistic, ideas that Hargreaves will be ready within the first few weeks of the season.

Hope he gets fit soon, I really think he was vital to our CL win in '08 and that our last final would have been very different had Hargreaves played with Fletcher to combat that midfield. They wouldn't have liked that up 'em.

Hargreaves---Fletcher
------Carrick--------
Ronaldo------Rooney
-----Berbatov-------

Would have walked that final.

My feelings are that he isn't coming back.:( At least not near where he used to be. It'd take a miracle at this point.

And that's based on?

I thought the last SAF said on this is that he expects Hargreaves to make a full recovery, so why bother spouting all the doom on here?

My experience with knee injuries. He's needed 2 surgeries now and his recovery date is up in the air.

That's what it is based on.
