PARK-A true unsung hero

Tells you a lot about his character that he was willing to play in a position that didn't exactly flatter his strengths. And to the point that the majority of fans started calling him a 'defensive winger' - nothing wrong with that except in a chilling display of mass-hypnosis they couldn't seem to stop until he actually showed them the error of their ways.

Any idea why Park wasn't involved last night? Was he injured? We really could have used his energy especially after the sending off he'd have been perfect to come on in place of Carrick.

No clue. Hopefullly Fergie just gave him the day off and chose Gibson instead.

The chat window in the stream I was watching had a bunch of people talking about some ESPN report that he'd picked up an injury during the warm up. Didn't see the report myself.

From the Korean times
Korea's first English Premier League star Park Ji-sung revealed he hopes to retire as a member of his present club, Manchester United.

``If it is possible I want to retire at Man Utd,'' Park said on a TV program.

``Manchester United is the world's best club. There is no reason to move any other team. As the club encourages footballers to stay at the team, there are many old boys such as Scoles and Giggs,'' added Park.

The Korean national team captain headed to the U.K. from the Netherlands in 2005 and extended his contract to 2012 last September.

The 29-year-old, who joined the Red Devils, one of the Premier League's big four, in 2005, created his own style football in England -based on huge amounts of running - and became the one of most popular footballers in Asia.

``If the club takes care of me and helps to improve, it is natural to stick with them. However we don't know the future,'' Park said.

While playing for United he helped the club win the league for three consecutive seasons, as well as lift the Champions League trophy.

Park, who was one of the youngest players in the 2002 World Cup squad, is now the link between the young guns and the veterans for the present team's harmon

in other words "only God knows if I stay" :nervous:

Hope the little guy has a great WC. He's a terrific servant to the club and easily could have bolted after being left out in Moscow. But he's had two very good seasons bar the Barcelona match. He was excellent at times this season. Hope SK goes on a bit of a run.

Not in South Korea!

What a great goal and performance from our boy today. Easily the best performance from a United player so far this world cup!!!

Nice one Ji Sung!!!!

That goal sums Park up; hustle, bustle and tidy skill.

Hey if you look in the transfer forum you'll notice numerous transfer targets that are apparently miles better than Park. Because big game player Park, who has produced outstanding displays in several Champions League semi-finals and quarter finals (for both PSV and United), and scored in World Cups, clearly isn't a top player.

He plays in a more attacking role for S Korea doesn't he. And some of his most devastating performances for PSV came in that role just behind the striker. I'd love to see him played there more often for us rather than just a ball chaser. Perhaps there won't be any need for Joe Cole then?

The funny thing is that people still continually say that he isnt United quality....He isn't Bryan Robson, but he is certainly good enough for United

The goal was great but the assist was equally as good!

His through ball to the striker who missed the 1on1 was just unbelievably sexy.

All the talk about transfer targets, muppetry and all is rubbish.

If Park wasn't a United player, we'd be wanking ourselves dry. Class display by Three-Lung and another fine example why he is at our club.

tidy little player and works his socks off. Great buy for us. Love him to bits.

Will we be seeing little Ji in the central role behind Rooney more often this season? I think it's certainly worth giving a chance as it looked promising on the occasions it was trialled last year.

Is our best formation something like this?

Fletcher - Scholes
Valencia - Park - Nani
Rooney

Park is a squad player at best. We can utilise him well in certain games but i definately wouldnt consider him a regular starter. He doesn't offer enough creativity, goals, or assists to merit starting in that position in the hole, and to play him there to stifle an opposition player (as against Milan last season) is a bit too anti football for my liking.
