PARK-A true unsung hero

And he's been a fantastic contributor in a squad that has only won three league titles, two league cups and a champions league in that time as well.

And a world club cup. Not to mention an FA cup final, UCL final and a few charity shields. Arsenal have done what in that time Pete? The emirates cup?

12 in his last 14 starts actually.
Not in the league? Park has 15 league goals for us according to Soccernet, 14 according to Stretfordend. However, he's got five goals in his last 14 league starts.

I tried to make sense of it in other ways, but couldn't. Not by counting all English cups, not by counting all games for United, not by counting internationals.

I have a dipper mate who swears blind Park either scores or assists a goal every time he sees him playing for us.

He thinks he's criminally under-rated.

I remember thinking the same thing when I used to see Benayoun for the dippers.

Really? That's disappointing. Podcast must have been fed dodgy stats. Not all that suprising though. 12 in 14 did sound a tad optimistic.

I love the little purple haired fecker. Just wish SAF stopped seeing him as a winger though, he's so much more suited to a central role.

Another of Fergie's fantastiv value signings. What was it like 6 million pounds?

Park Ji SIng-6 million pounds
Patrice Evra- 8 million pounds
Nemanja Vidic-8 million pounds
Edwin Van Der- 6 million pounds
Ronaldo- 12million pounds
Rafael Da Silva-Nominal fee for U-18 player

All of them are steals in today's transfer market.

Evra was only 5 or 6 million pounds, and I'm pretty sure VDS was only 2-4m. Rafael was 2.5m (we payed 5m for both twins).

Bloody hell, those are just ridiculously good signings. Unbelievable really. Fergie doesn't get enough praise for these kinds of signings IMO. Hernandez will soon be added to that list :)

This. That said the second goal against Wolves could have been scored by Giggs/Ronaldo, it was very positive play from Park which we don't always seen.

The best compliment I can pay to Park is to say that if half of today's footballers had Park's dedication and professionalism, the game would be in such a better place. It's rare to name 1- footballers in the world who would just get on with things without so much of a murmur and here at United we have Park, Scholes & Giggs. (Big Sheasy could fall into that category aswell).

How shallow humans are in the heat of the moment ey? I've always liked Park, but lately I've found myself screaming at the tv in frustration when he screws up something basic like a pass or controlling the ball...then he pops up with a vital winner when MUFC needs him most.

Puts it into perspective.

Even the folks on RAWK are praising him

Park Ji Sung

Bloody hell, they really actually rate him. Seem to rate him on par or a bit better than Kuyt and some even have him ahead of Bale! Its good to see that they rate his work ethic and persona off the pitch as well as his footballing ability. For once, RAWK have shocked me in a positive sense.

Nice to see the lad getting the praise he deserves.

He's had more than his share of criticism in here before.

Glad to see that some of these people can now see what a valuable member of the team he is.

From the RAWK thread:

If this post had been made this time last year then I would have agreed with you - infact I've said the same on this board many times and can appreciate the Park/Kuyt comparisons but like many of United's players, his performances have deteriorated over the past 9-10 months. So much to the point he shouldn't be in the team - 2 goals on Saturday doesn't change that. If anyone has watched the guy over the past year they'd say the same. He has been brilliant for them - especially in the league/CL double season but his performances have been a long way off those. He was their Dirk Kuyt and as someone has pointed out, big game player.

His time at United is done and I'd put money on United fans saying the same.

Interesting point of view. I found myself thinking about it what with our aging player situation.

What I do think is that IMO Park can do better going forward than he does for us on a regular basis. The last two games he's been outstanding. I'm just repeating what I said in my thread that got deleting so..

It's bollox though. His last couple of performances have been as good as any he's ever managed in a United shirt.

The comparison with Kuyt is very true, mind you.

Agreed, but I do think he is THAT much better when he is playing through the middle and not on the wing - where he tends to struggle. Hence I was a bit surprised when SAF chose Obertan to play through the middle against Wolves.

Pissed me off the little shit today. Either bring him on, or take him off, he can't fecking play for 90 minutes. I was all game and geared up for a tense finish, and the fecker keeps giving the ball away. I'm a bit intoxicated and was going to call him a rice eyed cnut, but I thought that might be racist so I eased off it.

Anyways, if anyone disagrees I'll be happy to debate with you.

In the morning.

He got the ball a lot, and then ran around with it for a bit, and then lost it. Every single time. Well, that's unfair. Sometimes he didn't run around with it, he just tried these cutesy lay-offs that never came off.

Was a bit of a disaster today.

The injuries hurt us because we had to use up two subs.

That left no scope for tactical subs because if we got an injury we'd be playing with 10 men.

Very frustrating because a clever might have swung it more in our favour.

So he played about as well as Nani, Milner and Silva then? The creative players simply didn't get enough support so when they had the ball they were shut down time and time again. I thought Park did ok; after all our best chance was Evra's right foot shot after his link-up with Park.

He wasn't great tonight. Some nice little touches and flicks, offset by some pretty poor touches. No need to single him out. He was alright, just like Nani. Not enough support, too many City players back, it was very hard to play through them. (Our 2 injuries were a pain as well. Limited our options)

Gutted we didnt have Giggs on the bench tonight, he was the sort of player who i think would have tipped the balance for us tonight, Park was a bit of a disaster tonight, just killed many of our attacking moves with a sloppy touch or a plain bad pass, that one two attempt with Nani at the end summed it up for me.

This sums up my opinion as well. In the second half his passing and first touch was especially poor, and with Nani a bit off song as well we didn't have enough to offer in the final third.

But like anyone else he's allowed to have a poor game, especially after handing us three points this weekend.

He always tries hard, but his first touch and interplay in some of the games this season has been poor. Then again, he's not the only one so it's difficult to point fingers. It's been a very disjointed season in which the team has only on rare occasions looked fluid. That said, we're still unbeaten.

It's hard to find too much comfort in that though because I have a feeling against a strong team we will get found out. Lots of dour draws on the horizon. Team seems to be trying, but there's a lack of cutting edge to our play.

Im sorry but how many of our attacks break down due to this bloke? the last week has been so infuriating as a spectator, everytime we have the slightest chance to break or create something especially in tight games where such opportunities are so rare priceless even he gets involved and it goes to shit and its pissing me right off, his touch is the equivalent of electric shock, he cant cross and im sorry maybe its just having sat through the last 2 games but every time hes got the ball he manages to somehow single handedly feck up any potential promising situation.

Giggs and Valencia please come back!

Rant over.

Park is an enigma. Last week I was convinced that he has more in his game than to be labelled a defensive option but today he was beyond rubbish. I have no idea why Fergie didn't bring him off at half time.

I thought this was a Berbatov thread because I swear that some of the things said could relate to Berbs as well.
