PARK-A true unsung hero

The fact he was subbed for Chris Smalling is all i needed to say really.

Look everyone was shit today but its not just today im talking about, in these types of games where your finding it hard to create anything when you have the chance to break its like gold dust, he fecked up every time he got the ball on wednesday to, i thought ok fair enough City defended deep it wasn't easy it happens, but its happened again today, the same shit every time he gets the ball, hes slow ponderous and just literally destroys every counter attack attempt, and its annoying me now.

That speaks more about what we have on the bench than Park's performance.
 
Just realised that whenever Park receives or attempts to pass or shoot he falls over..

We should all chip in and buy him a decent pair of boots :)
 
He's played 6 games in 17 days and it's taken its toll in the last two matches. The anti rotation crew won't acknowledge it though.

We badly needed another couple of our experienced attacking players available for the City-Villa double header. Playing Villa away at Saturday lunch time, just 60 hours after the derby and with five of the front six starting both games was always going to be very difficult.
 
In his first year, he was more lively, ran at defenders and always tried to make things happen. Just like we saw in the Wolves game. That happens rarely these days...

This. He hasn't gone from a matchwinner to a nothing in a week, he's simply being overused. In hindsight maybe it was an opportunity to start Obertan from the off...
 
Amazed he started yesterday. He looked well and truly fecked at the end of the City game so it was inevitable that he would be a shambles. It makes you wonder how much Fergie trusts Obertan if he'd still prefer an exhausted Park over him. It seemed to me a good chance yesterday to freshen things up a bit, surprised we opted not to

The reason for this is that the average PL fullback will simply 'nudge' him off the ball and generally get away with it scott-free due to the refs having collectively deemed Park as lightweight. In his first year, defenders respected his ability on the ball, and thus gave him space to operate in the way we all saw. But once they and their managers realized you could simply foul him and get away with it, who's going to be bothered with all of that.

This is also why he "plays well against the big teams": AKA the teams who don't resort to such physical tactics.

This is also why he plays better centrally, as a) his intelligence and movement let him get into a bit more space to operate with than when on the wing, and to a lesser extent b) fouling anyone in and around the center is a risky proposition for the opposition.

Park, being the intelligent team player that he is, plays percentages. Against a team that looks like it will happily foul him to dispossess, under the watch of a ref that he knows will not blow the whistle if they do, he will pass sideways and backwards and generally do all the things he gets slated for by certain people here.
 
This season, when Ji-Sung Park starts, United win more often, score (slightly) more goals and concede (significantly) fewer goals.

Goals conceded in 2010/11: When Park starts = 0.8 goals per game. When Park doesn't start: 1.4 goals per game.

MUFC with Ji-sung Park v Arsenal (9 games) = W 67%, D 22%, L 11%. MUFC without Park v Arsenal (4 games) = W 25%, D 25%, L 50%.

Ji Sung is now the most over praised unsung hero in the global game.

Lets face it, he's not an unsung hero, he is now justifiably recognised as a consistent performer capable of match winning performances in high profile games against the most illustrious of opposition.

Another one today vs Arsenal would do very nicely.

Take nothing away from a great goal but I thought his touch was appalling tonight. His defensive work was quite good as well, but his touch... Truly woeful, I'm sorry.
 
Park is an exceptionally average player with a big, big heart. If he had the talent of someone like Arshavin or Robinho he'd be one of the best in the world. His attitude is what makes him the player he is. He almost always rises to the challenges of big games.
