At least it confirms he hasn't signed a deal elsewhere either. I'm confident that getting on the pitch today will encourage him to sign with us.

I think certainly the playing time and the cheering when he touched the ball will make a huge difference IMO.

Will make him feel wanted and that he IS part of the team/family here.

I think we are hopefully on the right road here guys.

On a pessimistic note, could be just a tactic from the agent. If he said he signed with juventus then he would never get another game. This way he still gets playing time. On a positive note, If he hasn't made up his mind then the ot crowd might of helped with that decision.

I get the impression he wants to stay but the agent is being a bit of a twat and trying to convince him to go abroad. I think he'll end up signing a new contract.

Stan's claiming he broke the story that PP is ready to sign a four year contract. He's at OT so maybe someone's said something to him.

That's quite a stretch, and it really doesn't make much sense. Why would Juve want him to train extra with us when he could be training with them? They have no idea if we'll give him any game time. And I'd we'd know if he had already agreed with Juve, surely we have better sources in Italy than the tabloids.

he is only 18 and yet got some playing time for united in central midfield in the premier league. even the likes of scholes, butt, beckham never got that at the same age. he is a very talented player and he should know he is a very lucky boy..by playing him today it shows that sir alex is ready to give him some playing time from time to time.just sign a new contract here boy..

Guess i don't understand the contract legalities. I thought he wouldn't be able to train with juv as he has a contract with mu until the end of the season. How does it work?

Fergie's supposedly said he's a first team player and it's up to him now.

Fergieology

Today will certainly help make his mind up and I don't just mean playing.

Imagine that feeling he would have got going back into the changing room and finding our we're top of the league because City lost and we're in pole position to win the League now with a set of easier fixtures on paper. That room will be buzzing and full of people who are feeling like genuine winners today.

He sees out his contract with us and goes to Juventus in the summer.
Yeah, but I don't think that's what the original post from gooDevil was referring to. He said that Juve would want him to train with them instead of us, dunno how he figured that out if he meant before the contract was up?

Either way, it'd be in Juve's best interests if he pretends like he's staying here until his contract's up, in order to encourage Fergie to play him here and give him more experience before he switches clubs.

He's only a kid. A long-term project. In the grand scheme of thing, a few cameo appearances for a different team in a foreign league mean bugger all, as far as Juve are concerned.

Hopefully today meant a lot to Pogba though.

Got a feeling he might start at Bilbao, we saw how quickly SAF motioned for him to come on today, I get the feeling we're still in the process of convincing him to stay and some minutes mid week will help. Depends all on how serious SAF will take it on Thursday, might start strong and if we concede decide to sub off key players.

But a full season of training with the first team at United and learning from players like Giggs, Scholes et al is better than having him train with the reserves. If the price of it is simply not saying publicly that he'll leave, then I think Juve would prefer that if they have guarantees in private from Pogba (and, more likely, his agent) anyway.

Agree with the edit.. I hope that today will have made him see what he'll miss out on if he leaves.

I'd be all for it, I think we looked completely uninterested against Bilbao, so why not play the youngsters and the backups like Park and Berba a start? At least they will be hungry for game time and full of energy.

We won't beat many teams with absolutely no pressing on defense. We've seen the team come out in that same dispassionate way a few times this season, like Crystal Palace and Blackburn, and it's been dreadful.

I'm not sure how it would work either. If he was determined to sign with Juve, let's say, then wouldn't we then go ahead and accept their bid or the value the arbitration board decides and he'd be off? I thought that was the idea, that he was training alone while the details were worked out.

But I get what you're saying now, I didn't realize you were saying he might have to stay until the end of the season due to contract restrictions.

I thought there were some audible boos when the stadium announcer read his name out before the match started introducing the team line-up to the crowd

My view of it is that Fergie's thought he can give him some game time to 'prove' that he's part of the first team, so that he can rule out any possibility of leaving for 'first-team football'. For the time being I'm still very sceptical, and still think he'll leave.

So it appears that it wasn't all about the money, it appears he wants assurances he will be given a role role in the first team...

What today showed is Fergie really values him. Quite a gesture to someone refusing to sign a contract with us.

That's because a load of cnuts boo'd him onto the pitch :wenger:

Some people a dicks. Why boo a player when you don't know all the facts and when the club are trying to convince him to stay and he has yet to make a choice?

So why did he drop him for the Ajax game, all subsiquent first team matches, pull him from the last 3 reserve games and have him training on his own?

Something must have happened. I must say that I was surprised to hear Fergie say that he still doesn't know if he's staying.

Probably didn't want to say he's going to sign just in case theres any last minute twists to come. As you said, there was no coming back into our team unless something drastic happened. Then we hear rumours he has agreed in principle to sign and he's suddenly on the bench. Hopefully it is more than a coincidence.

Either that or maybe he had a slight knock too?

God knows this one sure is a mystery

Do we know he was really training on his own?

No one knows feck all really, the rumour was he was supposed to sign by the end of a certain week or he'd never play for the club again, the week passed and he didn't appear in the next few squads and the next reserve game giving that rumour some credibility. Stories have also been ran saying he's already agreed to go, SAF's comments and actions suggest otherwise.
