So take advantage of the local lads who would play for peanuts?
No, I say differentiate based on talent.

Yes but Pogba isn't just not on the bench, he didn't even travel with the squad.
That's the bigger issue here.
Maybe if we differentiate between talented players in the 1st team while giving out contracts, we should do the same for youth players as well. More talented players will always demand more money and you can't expect all of them to play for Manchester United as much as the local lads. Especially now a days when other clubs are willing to pay mad money.

When Pogba is half the servant that Park has been for us through the years then he can start talking big money, untill then feck off if you dont want to play. When you're playing Ji Sung Park in midfield and are prepared to lose one of the best young midfielders in the world because you don't want to pay him as much as Ji Sung Park, it's time to have a long hard look at yourself in the mirror, and either have a drastic rethink or accept no longer being one of the world's top clubs.

Ji-Unit is a proven top International player you know? He's played in two Champions League finals and his original position was centre midfield.
Whilst I agree Pogba's a massive talent, caving into his potentially massive wage demands will only harm us in the future.

No one actually knows what his wage demands are. All we know is he apparently wants to stay and yet hasn't signed a contract.
What harms you a lot more is ten years down the line when Paul Pogba's playing for one of the world's top teams because you wouldn't offer him a competitive salary.
We can't be that tight either if Ashley Young's on 120k a week.
Why because we not willing to reward greedy teenagers? Pogba seems to be holding out for huge contracts rather than earn improved deals. If he committed his future I'm sure he would have played more. The fact he is not in squad at all suggest to me that he has told the club he intends on moving and if that is the case then we should not do anymore to help his progress.
Accept no longer one of the worlds top clubs???? are you for real? you do realise we are the current Champions of England don't you? and I assume you also realised that we somehow managed to achieve that without Paul Pogba playing a single game as crazy as that may sound. There are other talented young players at our club and other talented young players at other clubs that would jump at the chance to join Man United so I think we will be just fine no matter what Pogba decides.

I don't think Pogba's demands are "massive" (whatever that means in numbers). Juventus, as well as most every other club won't pay silly money for an unproven youngster. No doubt they're offering him a bit more but I'm pretty sure we can very well match that and it's worth the gamble IMO. Especially when we lack in the area he plays and when we haven't produced any top class players for ages.
In the end we'll find ourselves in a situation where we have to buy our way out of trouble, it'll cost us considerably more than whatever Pogba wants and will be as much of a risk as any transfer in football.

If he's getting offered bigger contracts by other clubs (and apparently not Man City) that should tell you enough. If you want the top players you have to pay the going rate for them. If you don't, it'll be Paul Pogba this season, someone else next, etc.
Players aren't going to stick around if they can get better deals elsewhere, it's as simple as that. Trying to blame the player for wanting to get the best for themselves is pointless and daft. Either you compete and put your money where your mouth is, or you eventually watch the others pass you by.
If I'm Paul Pogba, I'm not staying at Manchester United when other clubs are willing to pay me twice as much and yet United wont budge. I'd be thinking the club have a fecking cheek to be so arrogant about their status.
I am tired of people posting that quote from Sir Matt, as much as I agree with it. Times have changed, we must evolve or risk the consequences.
SAF:
"Matt Busby summed it up perfectly when he said that you don’t need to chase money at a club like Manchester United. It will eventually find you. You will earn money and become rich. They can chase the money early in their career but at the end it won’t be the same as if he had stayed here. He just has to look around him to know where his future lies."
It's not chasing money if you're on 25k and in the first team squad at Juventus.

Basically we're all quite probably being idiots.

It's still very relevant. Put the work in to the level expected of you and you may well make it at United, That will make you rich either way. If not you can expect to make it at another level and money will come.
Put the work in and you won't be selling clothes on Ebay put it that way.
