Barring injury I reckon he is goona be really great. He's showing signs of brilliance similar to what the likes of Rossi and Pique showed at Reserve level and has excelled for teh academy and France youth teams when he was not injured.

David Jones and Floribert N'Galula also impressed highly. You never know with young players.

You what? He was never rated as one of the best youngsters at the club. Not even close. The comparison with Pique and Rossi is fair, in terms of how highly rated Pogba is, although they had also excelled for our reserves.

Not exactly. In french there is in pronunciation between "an" and "on".Obertan is pronounced the "an" way. There is a slight difference

For an English speaker, though, "-on" would sound closer to the French way of pronouncing "-an" than if his name was pronounced phonetically in English with a hard "ah" sound at the end Ober - tan.

Cant compare them at all imo. N'Galula was never at the level of either Jones or Pogba.

I really rated Jones at one point, he had the technical ability and the brain and was a lovely passer of the ball, He just never kicked after he turned 18/19. I think one of his problems was imposing himself physically on games.

Don’t see any similarities with Pogba and any of our previous central midfielders in the academy.

Me too. he hit a really purple patch for Wolves towards the end of last season and I thought he was about to start fulfilling his potential. Doesn't seem to have featured much at all this season though. Is he injured?

Yeah I still think Jones is a good player - and Shawcross.

Yep he got injured a while ago. Ive always felt if he only believed in himself a bit more. The type of confidence that should come with his background and pedigree is something Ive only seen flashes of. I believe Gary Speed is chasing him for Wales which would be a great move imo. International football could suit him. Hes no kid anymore @26

Back then the squad was probably stronger and therefore harder to break into. The league is also at the minute not as 'harsh' as it was where you couldn't afford to lose a game. The two mentioned weren't good enough. That's not to say they didn't have ability but they weren't better then what we had and in Jones case, he was a small lad. Pogba big, very confident, technically sound. We can only look at someones ability not their general attitude, how they behave and we don't have a crystal ball that will show what injuries they'll pick up down the line

It don't stop at Pogba though. I think Tunnicliffe is a no brainer. If he don't make it, i'll be amazed but i'm making an assumption about his personality here and cross fingers he don't get injuries. He's a gem

Purely in terms of Pogba's prospects I'd compare him to Danny 'One L In' Welbeck. Huge natural talent, very comfortable on the ball, composed, tough. If he can stay free of serious injury and progress evenly over the next two years then anything is possible.

Maybe - if your "on" is pronounced as in "mission", not as in "onset"... though you'd probably be closer with the "ung" of "lung" or the "arn" of "barn" (pronounced with no r as in my accent). I don't think they're trying to get the French pronunciation, I think they're just saying it as they read it.

I feel a tedious language thread coming on...

Kind of goal of the season so far though.

Rumours coming out of Peterbrough is that Pogba & Morrison are heading there on loan.

Morrison allowed to travel? I could kinda see Pogba going, but I can't imagine United letting Morrison leave unless everything with him from a legal standpoint is sorted - easier for United to keep a lid on what is happening while he is a youth player at United and not a potential first teamer at another club, even if it would be under another Fergie.

Would also thought it was a bit early for the two, they haven't really made the step away from the academy side yet - would have thought consistent reserve team football till the end of this season (and maybe FAYC games) and a loan next season.

That's what I thought. I got this info from one of my suppliers who's a Peterbrough fan - says the town is buzzing again with DF going back and those 2 names keep cropping up.

You're assuming that the rumours are correct? The last ones were rubbish so I don't have any reason to believe the new ones.

It would be interesting to see if they did go out, it's possible. Other players went out at 17, and Pogba definitely has the physique to handle it and Morrison was thought of highly enough to be involved in the Carling Cup.

I would have thought that James and King were far more likely loanees though (fitness permitting).

has been linked with Nottingham Forest today in the Mirror.

Let's hope he lasts at Peterborough.Don't need another scenario like the Preston one....does no one any good at all

So, do you pronounce your name as Koo-roo, Koo-rooks or something completely unexpected, like Darren...???

Kouroux is pronounced "koo-roo" if you want. It's how most french instinctively pronounced it, the "x" at the end of any words in french is never pronounced.
What's its use then ? I don't have a clue

You've told me something I never knew.

I think it's cool - an ambiguous kiss/feck you at the end of a name.

sincherx

He's just one of those players that sticks out like a sore thumb, looks completely outstanding at youth level. In the first leg of the FA Youth Cup I was sitting with a mate in the Chelsea end and even the Chelsea fans around me were saying he looked like a class act. He is a huge physical presence, has a great touch and has real passing and shooting ability. He has a really bright future.

Whenever I've seen him he just seems a cut above the rest. Great shot in his locker too.

Great play by him just now to create a great chance for Ravel.

Watching him play like this is making me think we don't need to sign another midfielder and should just wait for this kid to mature.

I agree - we do need strengthening in midfield, but it would slow down these kids from getting a chance, so I wouldn't mind too much if we didn't get someone in. I think Pogba and Morrison could really make it, and I would love to see Tunnicliffe as well, although the other two are more the standout talents.

One other thing that I like about him is that he passes into space, he makes sure that his pass will not put you the receiving player under immediate pressure, yet they are not just back or sideways passes, but attacking passes most of the time

True, though I haven't seen too much of him, but from what I've read/heard, it sounds very promising.

Still, with OH leaving, Scholes close to calling it a day & Gibson's United future being uncertain (though I think he might get another season to impress) buying a midfielder will not necessarily slow down the progress of what we have.

Aye, him and Ravel just made it look so easy at times. Didn't matter what Pogba was doing; bursting into space, turning his man, switching the play with 40 yard passes, playing the early penetrative pass (that half-volley ), bringing it under control...he could make it all look so effortless at times.

That said I didn't think Pogba had that great a game today. Showed his array of skills but in and out of the game a lot I thought.
