Pepe Reina Howler Watch

He's been poor for at least 12 months, maybe longer. He was always capable of making an error but generally was a solid keeper, now he seems to be making mistakes on a regular basis.

Still, he won't get criticised as much as he should.

Another shocking error. He's had an awful start to the season and hardly was in inspiring form last season either.

Some people here are really underrating him. He was undoubtedly a top class keeper for a 3 or 4 year spell. He was always error prone, but nowhere near as much as this, and he was a world class shot stopper back then as well. Those who say he was never quality are talking nonsense.

He's slow to get down to the ball nowadays.

Even then, in a critical position such as Keeper 'always been error prone' sets you on the bar below 'top class' instantly. The same argument can be applied to Suarez. There is a critical flaw to either players game they can't be at the top level.

Reina has always been howler prone and has had significant problems commanding his area. I agree that he is one of the best shot stoppers around and in his pomp there may not have been any better but I have never said he's on that 'top class' top tier. He just simply isn't.

Liverpool's midfield is leaving him more exposed to shots nowadays, which leads to him making more errors.

By error prone, I mean nowhere near as much as I do now; I mean where he would only let in the occasional howler. Back then, we were talking only a few a season at most. If you're like that but you're a quality shot stopper, then you can be categorised in among the top bracket of goalkeepers in my opinion. He isn't now though because he's making those howlers on a regular basis.

and to think that some people were suggesting that United should go in for him after VDS retired.

He's still good enough for Liverpool for now but if I were Rodgers I'd start looking for a replacement soon enough.

am I the only one who felt yesterdays goal wasn't a huge mistake ? It was a rocket from 7-8 yards out - and in my opinion he was more unlucky than anything else. I guess he could have tried to stop the ball with his leg - but I feel it would have gone in anyway

Hope Rodgers hasn't maintained a good relationship with Vorm and won't bring him in next year, cos I really like that young goalkeeper and think he's got it in him to become very, very good.

the ball went through him, poor goalkeeping for a man of his experience and reputation

I get what you mean and I agree to an extent. Just the critical flaw in the game but still top class. I am not convinced (each to their own though). It's like saying a defender is top class but he sometimes crucially gets beaten at corners for headers, a midfielder who is class but has a 60min engine, a top class forward who can go on huge runs of being dire........ :wenger:

He's always had sloppy handling and especially parrying easy low holds back into play.

Hahahaha!

Should've kept it out.

He's past it, and he's only 30.

His kicking was atrocious. Unbelievably bad.

This. To the point that he was going out of way his to hospital-pass it to a defender to avoid having to kick.

Didn't do much else wrong really, but then he didn't have anything to do!

Still thought the keeper should of saved it, got two hands to it and should of done better.

Yup, the pen was in a very good height for the GK. Probably just a fraction too high and too hard for Reina to get it, but not a very good pen for me.

Would have been a fantastic save tbf. He got quite close, and it wasn't a very poor penalty.

He was nearly 1 yard. 1 YARD off his line.
It should be re-taken in the event of Reina actually making the save. I do not get why he (who is predominantly known for) and other keepers are allowed to do this. (In this case I've prematurely skirmished on the outlying region and thus shot my load over nothing..)

It is a massive advantage to the keeper and hence why it should be enforced that they stay on their line while the taker takes his penalty.

This fecking cnut has done it for years and it shits me every time I see him lurch forward illegally and make penalty saves.

edit: Changing my story.. Eagle eye excal.

I completely agree with the frustration, but no way should it be re-taken if the defending team infringes and the ball ends up in the net.

 fair fecks. Kudos to Reina for not doing his usual huge lurch. Just a minor one.
Excal you cheeky clamp.

Remember at the time telling the whole host of Liverpool fans at the pub that he comes off his line and is shite.

And ghaliboy was never seen in the thread again.

I absolutely detest any over the top praise for Reina I think he is extremely overrated. Having been the one to get the thread name changed to howler watch I'm not going anywhere :D

p.s. YOU'RE ALL cnuts...
