Phil Jones

fecking love Jones

My parents have bought me a United jersey for xmas with Jones on the back and premier league badges, when I get it I am going to wear it and go out to attack all the space I can find

Have a word with yourself for feck sake. Dempsey didn't intentionally injure Jones.

Obviously he was joking but seriously, it looked really ugly to me, I can't prove he meant it, I could be wrong, but I don't think it's clear it wasn't intentional, his form was extremely unnatural as he went into Jones. Even the commentator thought it was intentional.

not sure who the co-commentator was (ex-pro) but he reckoned Dempsey should've seen red. He does have previous for these incidents. Leverage is bollox. It has become a recent trend and is careless, to say the least.

just glanced at that and thought it said "he is black" wtf ??:lol:

I think Jones should come of the bench against Wigan and that too only if he is needed. It is better to give him a little more rest.

Would have agreed if it was a little niggle injury somewhere in his legs, but with just a bruised jaw I dont see any reason not to play him. Unless we consider him so vital that we want to save him for this game and let someone like Gibson play in his place ofc, which might, surrealistically enough, actually be the case.

Saw an article which suggested he might captain England at the Euros if Terry is out. That is a bit far fetched to me, but you never know. Ramsey is already captain of Wales.

 Seriously? That will never happen, it's absurd.

He's our best option to partner Carrick at the moment. That's saying something, both about our lack of options, but also about the great strides he's making.

I think he's showing a lot of desire to learn, wherever he's played. I hope he'll continue to look a goal threat from midfield, loving that part of his game.

I bet he is happy he picked United too. I mean he said Fergie promised him game time and thats why he picked us and boy isn't he getting it?

if he finishes the season with 8 goals, i'd be very very happy

I would be thrilled. I'd love it if he just kept making those penetrative runs against the "worse" teams, it makes it s much easier for Nani and Rooney etc if we're multidimensional in our attacking approach.

So wait, Jones is still our only outfield player who hasn't been injured this season? Get in!!

Well, he's made himself undroppable, hasn't he? His versatilty obviously helped, and our injuries, but when it comes down to picking the team, you have to find a spot for this one.

I can't believe he is only 19. Young player of the year, for me. Though Sturridge might run him close.

Chris Smalling has been better IMO.

That's not any slight on Jones, Smalling has just been solid at all times, can't remember a bad game.

Smalling was better last season than he has been in 2011/12, if only because he was playing in his preferred position.

This season he's had a few very good performances but some poor one too, all at full back.

Harsh. He's only had a couple poor performances at right back.

Smalling has had a few injuries and absences over the season mind you which seem to be forgotten about.

Ok. A couple of poor performances at full back. How many really good ones in the same position? Not many more, I'd have thought.

Don't get me wrong. He's done very well in an unfamiliar position but I don't see what he's done to be talked about as best young player of the season so far. Even his very best game at full-back wouldn't have been as good as Rafael's best in the same position.

Earlier on in the season I was very impressed with his performances there. It was only that cluster of performances when United were giving everyone a hiding mind you. He is a natural centre back.

Would prefer we got him back playing regularly in the centre with Vidic's injury now though as it is clearly his best position and I think Jones is abit to inexperienced to be played there regularly yet. Smalling and Rio with Evans as back up(which is fairly regular given Rio's situation) is what I would hope for the rest of the year.

Let the twins/Jones battle for the right back spot when the likes of Cleverley and Anderson return. I don't know about everyone else but I see Jones's long term future as a centre back but until then he will do a job anywhere.
