Phil Jones

Holy crap, what a performance, absolutely fantastic. All through the game I kept thinking to myself 'I can't believe this lad is 19', he totally dominated. That block on Bale was, well, I can't think of a word good enough, I'm blown away by that performance from him.

You know i'm not too fussed that Vidic & Ferdinand will not be available for the Arse game.

He just seems so level headed as well. Comes across very well in interviews, and was very quick to say he was disappointed Rio and Vidic are injured as you don't want your best players injured, even though as a direct result he got to start tonight.

He is going to be a star. I was disappointed when I thought Liverpool were signing him and delighted we ended up getting him!

Only a matter of time before he gets in the full England squad along with Smalling. Between them two, Walker and Kelly (who in the few times I've seen him looks a really good prospect) there's some exciting young defenders emerging.

Surprise find of the season for me. He is going to be top top class for many long years for us. Him and Smalling have every chance to succeed Vidic and Rio in the future.

Hopefully their development signals the end for someone else soon (cough, cough, Big Man)

Only 19, but he plays like a man.

I was impressed with him the first time I properly saw him with the under 21's. Since then he's adapted very quickly to our side and looks like he's been playing in our defence for years. If he improves his effectiveness in front of goal he will become a complete defender because there are few weaknesses in his game right now. He already has the influence of a captain with the assurance of a veteran. Thankfully he seems very level headed and shouldn't let all this praise give him an ego.

You can never predict a players career but you can appreciate their qualities and you need characters like Jones who give everything. At 19, he was the buy of the summer anyway. Him and smalling in the under 21's as a par were immense and if they stay hungry, with evans and the twins etc...we're not in bad shape for the foreseeable future.

That should put the De Gea "short" theories to bed. If Jones is 6foot 2 and De Gea is leaning over next to him, then it looks like De Gea really is the 6foot 4 he's listed at on some websites.

The photographer was clever enough not to include the feet in the photo. De Gea is in fact standing on his toes.

Edit: Damn you PJ

I love how physical this lad is. He is absolutely not scared of anything. When we got him this summer, I had my doubts just like when we got Smalling last summer and both of them have turned out to be brilliant signings. Our future center backs and Evans will have to play out of his skin to beat these two.

Absolute class, so composed and a definite leader, Our back up CB's would get into the starting 11 of most Prem teams IMO.

We have signed two of the best young defenders in the world, maybe even the best 2 under 20.

Put Evans in there and that next 10-12 years of central defense sorted.

,,,and worse than that, they forgot about the Dasilvas.

I can see this lad moving to the defensive midfield role very easily if needs be.

Although it is really early days for him at United he has future captain material written all over him. I was actually thinking during the game last night that he reminded me of Keane in terms of aggression and presence. At just 19, having the confidence not only to tackle Bale in the penalty box but snarl at him to get up afterwards was just brilliant.

Definitely. He was bossing everyone around at the back last night, giving out if they weren't doing their bit, that takes some confidence for a 19 year old making his first-team debut.

He already looks like he's been here years, so composed for such a young lad. He may be 5.11" but he's about 5.6" wide and strong as an ox . Fergie you are a f*cking football genius :D
