Andrew on text, via 81111: "Phil Jones is a classy central defender who can also play very well at right back if needed. If Sir Alex continues to play him in central midfield then he's risking what happened to Alan Smith. Let the kid develop alongside Vidic at the back. It'll be best for him as well as England in the long run."

:smirk:

SAF looked delighted to see him score, maybe even moreso than usual. I might be reading too much into it, but to me that suggests that Phil is well-liked around the dressing room and by Fergie.

The wave between Jones and Fergie was almost like a kid going "look dad! I scored a goal!"

My first thought is they were happy Fergie's decision to play him in midfield had paid rewards. I also wonder if they'd worked in training on him making those late runs into the box and maybe they were acknowledging that. Or they're just bff.

Sir Alex on Jones celebration: "We keep winding him up and keep saying: 'We paid £16million for you and we can't even get a shot off you!"

That's a gutsy bet. As he's never scored before, I'd think the odds would be much steeper than 1 in 15. That implies he scores around that rate, right?

It should be but bookies being a shower of bastards mean odds are never reflective of the possibility of something happening.

Trendsetting like a mofo.

Fergie literally has to wind his neck in he's so proud, I think that's even more love than I've seen him have for Fletcher, aka Fergie's love child.

Methinks Fergie had another affair some 19 years ago.

I love him at RB, but I can also imagine him bossing a midfield. He's got a great engine and great size, he's almost wasted as a RB.

Now we just need to see him paired centrally with Cleverley, could be the future.

I had him at 10/1 with betfair. where dya get that price?
Unibet. They have some good anytime prices, I also got on it early when the team news was announced (and we knew Jones was playing in midfield). It did drop after that to be fair.

I found the first second of Jones' celebration funny. There was the instant "OMGZZ I've just scored my first goal for United!" when he thrusts his arms in the air, then tries to pull it back and act a bit cooler.

Do you think we've found ourselves in the rare situation where Jones has almost made himself undroppable yet we don't know what position he'll be playing in? It's just important to have him on the pitch?

Phil Jones to become a United top scorer by the time he retires.
Lot's of comparisons to big Dunc Edwards being mentioned already.
Exciting time to be a United fan with Welbeck, Young, Cleverley etc...

EDIT - actually scratch that, it's always an exciting time to be a United fan.

I seriously doubt that.
