PL: Blackburn Rovers Vs. Manchester United 28/08/04

The only jammy ones are Blackburn.

It's games like that today that make up Championships IMO, it wasnt our day infront of goal, our passing was good and we created oppertunities against a B'Burn side content to sit on the 1-0, we would have faded out and lost a game like this last year.

Never the less, it's still only a point, but it's an encouraging one because it showed the spirit is still there.

But FFS, the better we get Ruud back infront of goal the better!

Spector did well. O'Shea, well, no idea whats going to happen to the kid, Fergie prefers Heinze Spector, Fortune, even Mickey at left back than John'O, and he's clearly not going to get in at CB with Wes, Rio, Heinze etc., he's not worked in midfield.

I think he'll be sold.

I hope you are wrong about O' Shea been sold. At the least he is a valuable squad player. I still think he will find his place.

And today's point may prove more important than people know. The character of the play is what will win championships....lots of football to be played yet.

Oh! Smith is pure Gold......:D

I noticed that spector kid is much faster than Oshea, there was one time Emerton went past him but he caught him with good speed. And who did emerton pass easily last season to score against us??, Yes O'shea. The faster Wes is back the better.

i was thinking the same thing
last season we would have lost this match coz we had only one player who would never give up and he too is nering the end of his career

but this time we have alan never give up smth
we need a smiley for him, just like the keano one

Weird game, I thought Blackburn were unlucky with our goal, but I think we deserved all 3 points with all our chances. There probably should have been more added time, in fact there should probably be more added time in most games when you take into account the 30 secs per sub thing that we're told of all the time, add that to god knows how many free kicks and time wasting from Blackburn. Happy enough with a point, to have lost 2 in 3 games would have been disastrous, and it's this kind of game we wouldn't have got anything out of last year, and lost 1-0. When I look at the fixtures list, there's 2 of the 'lesser teams' that are very tricky when away from home- Blackburn and Boro. Would have liked to win, but atleast we never lost.

Another great one you lot have given us Marching...

Yep, I am pleased for him that he has an opportunity to show some doubters just how good a striker he is.

Do you think if you'd have played him up front all of last year instead of in midfield more often than not, you would have stood a better chance at staying up? You'd have a had a better strikeforce, but a weaker midfield....

How so? How about the possesion we had, the chances we created and the fact that Friedel kept them in single-figures.

Right - so they were jammy because their defence and keeper kept you from scoring for 93 minutes? How is that lucky? It's what they're there to do.

YOU were jammy because you were seconds away from losing, and your goal came courtesy of a clear handball.

If you fail to score due to an infringement of the rules, then you can say it's unlucky. But if it's due to the opposition keeper saving everything, that's another story.

They scored a legitimate goal, your's was assisted by a handball and if it had been the other way around, you'd all be crying 'cheats' etc.

Had been reflecting on what the major contributing factors that led up to the treble year, it had been the cole and yorke connection and the very deliberate promotion of teamwork by Manchester United as a whole. This is what really seemed to bring the players together.

I haven't seen the replay of today's MU match, yet. But I did see Arsenal play....they posess what MU are lacking, what MU had in the that infamous treble season....'UNITY'

If the club comes together, they will regain the fluidity that seems to have been lacking over the past 4 seasons.....as ppl had been looking to MU as the standard for so long....IMO the standard isn't all that ellusive, it's simple and apparent in the Arsenal camp....being 'UNITED'....that unity must start with the MU management openly encouraging that unity.

Good effort from united though. If Saha could have missed the center of the net we would be celebrating.

Oh dont be a tease DJS, we pummelled Blackburn today, Friedel did what he's paid to do, fair enough, but United were unlucky not to win the game, when a keeper consistantly pulls of a string of excellent saves like that it is considered fortunate, it always has been, I remember Howard pulling off 4 or 5 bloody brilliant saves at the Reebok last year, we won 2-1, we were fortunate that day, like Blackburn were fortunate today.

I was very scepitcal about Smith, I make no aplogies for that, but he has started brilliantly and the fans love him already, which was always going to be a task.

And Pugh is doing well at Leeds, it seems, hasnt he scored a couple? I never thought he was much, even in our reserves, and especially when he came into the first team. Goes to prove how some players can thrive when given a fair crack, albeit at a lower level than Manchester United were playing at.

Maybe we can get someone to make a white rose that turns into a red devil...but don't forget the purple lips on the devil face

C'mon, you can't honestly say we didn't deserve anything from that match?

IMO intentional handball or not, we didn't deserve to leave Ewood Park without at least a share of the spoils.

*Just for the record, I'm of the opinion it was completely unintentional. :smirk:

Yes and i was one of them and my opinion as not changed.I'll reserve judgement till the end of the season.

You clearly WERE the better side.

But why should you *deserve* anything, if you cant score legitimately?

You threw everything at them, Friedel saved everything. Doesnt HE therefore *deserve* to be on the winning side?

End of the day, you were better, they scored, you scored a goal that shouldnt have stood. So why do you *deserve* something from the game if you're not able to achieve it legally?

by virtual of the fact we create more scoring chances.

Chances mean nothing, if you dont convert them.

I seem to remember GH getting laughed at here, for saying how many chances and shots at goal his Liverpool sides had.

Suddenly, opinion changes, does it?

Typical, blinkered, two-faced train of thought, that.
