Player Awards 2019 | Luke Shaw wins

This is the football equivalent of the photocopier winning employee of the month, in an office, when everyone is pissed off with the boss & no-one gives a sh*t anymore

So we absolve the midfield of any blame for our shitty defensive record?

Let's go back to basics....
The defenders and goalkeeper are expected to concede the least number of goals
The midfielders are supposed to create more opportunities for our forwards
The forwards are expected to score the most goals

Unfortunately, neither of them have been successful this season. By process of elimination, Pogba has done fairly better than the rest of the squad.

Lukey Shaw loves a double bhuna pass it on

No but Shaw's been above average this season. I'm happy with him if he gets fitter.

If you’re going “back to basics” you need a better understanding of the basics than you’re showing here.

Sure... and your judgement that Shaw deserves the Player of the Year was very well substantiated. Good job!

Well yes, that’s what the player think when they gave him the award. He did a good job. I agree with them. He’s had some poor games recently but, taking the season as whole, he’s been our best performer.

Deciding that the goals against column is all the evidence you need to prove he doesn’t deserve the award is pretty stupid tbh.

Shaw has been pretty good tbh, lots of good moments. Performed well against big players (notably restricting Salah to nothing)
Quite a few assists, the Spurs pass to Rashford standsout.
Unfortunately the Huddersfield mistake overshadows all that right now

That said, they should have held the awards (men's,) in the staff canteen after training, theres nothing to pat eachother on the back for & get all dressed up for to celebrate

That's not basics at all.

It's called putting things in layman terms. Essentially that's what the bare minimum is expected of our defenders, midfielders and forwards.

If midfielders are not doing their job in protecting defense, then defenders will concede.
If Fullbacks fails to provide width then attack will lack width and struggle to create chances.
If Forwards fail to make the runs, midfielders will fail to create chances.

Football is a team game where every player on the field is responsible for everything.

That's because I think that among this tripe he wasn't even among the best players. His 'performances' at Huddersfield and Shitty costed us any chances of top 4

Also I find his physical shape as an embarrassment.

You write as if your head is buried deep in the misery of last month.

One thing is debating wether we can do better than Luke Shaw on lb or not, or wether Lindelöf (I think he did, even if he is not a world beater yet either) or Pogba (clearly a much better player and on song levels above Shaw, but with half a season that makes Shaw’s two last games a minor blemish in comparison, and with huge questions about his attitude and application). Or wether we should withold the prize due to the current mood. Actually that was four things.

Regardless, the fact that the players voted for him, should show you that his application, work and attitude in training as well as matches must have been top notch this season, and that his ‘body shape’ is a completely unfair stick to beat him with at this point.

In fact, beating him at all, in the OP of a thread about this, I think is unnecessary. There are currently a hundred threads available on the forum in witch to be critical, negative, irrational or just depressed in, including the Luke Shaw performances thread.

I hope Edward doesn't feck up, Shaw needs.to be shielded. Heard Barça is looking for a LB to force Alba to wise up his act or to bench him if he fecks up.

When did Phil Jones marry Lingard?

:lol::lol:

Congratulations to him; much improved showing this season. Let’s hope he progresses more next season

Been really good this season from start to finish. Great to see him achieve such consistency and play with such confidence.

Attacking wise has also been a revelation.

And the award for least abysmal MUFC player for 2018-19 goes to Luke Shaw.

Shaw had some decent games for us this season tbf. Some shocking ones as well. Does he deserve the award? Probably not. Pogba or Lindelöf probably should have. But they way things went with Pogba the last couple of weeks he wasn't going to get the award plus Shaw is English so... I just hope he comes back from the summer fully fit and loses a couple of pounds. He still looks too heavy.

Pogba or Lindelof would have been my choice. Although from a very low bar.

Luke Shaw needs to only look at Liverpool's full backs to see how more he needs to do.

Hes miles behind those and he still wins this award, what does that say about the rest of our players!

Tough times...

Apologies.

Also i really like your username.

Thank you :) yours is funny :)

We are becoming a source of amusement as we are handing out awards for our 6th placed team while the rest of the top 6 are either challenging for the league this weekend or getting to European finals or in the case of Liverpool challenging for both :(

I wouldn't even have minded them being held if say this was next season and Ole was rebuilding the team and we were showing good signs of moving in the right direction with a good playing style, or even if we had continued to perform how we did when Ole first came in. It's made all the more ironic we hold an awards night after we have just drawn to Huddersfield, obviously I know the date was pre booked it just adds to my irritation!

Make them attend to support the women and youth getting their awards!

Shaw or Lindelof were my choices if I'd had to pick one

I think noone has been better for us this season than Pogba and sometimes he gets unjustified criticism for objectively good performances, yet at the same time I feel many others have partly forgotten his displays on and off the field from August to Desember, that is about half the season, where, Mourinho’s obvious problems notwithstanding, Pogba was justifyably benched due to performances, and justifyably stripped of the armband due to his attitude.

The grand total of that puts his season well behind players who have shown grit and fair quality under Mourinho as well as under Solskjær, which I think goes for Lindelöf and Shaw both.

A statistical comparison with 21 Premier League left backs had Luke Shaw in 10th place in all 3 categories ... Defence, Build up and Offence.
