And the nominees are.

Some of the biggest names in the professional game are in the hunt for the Players' Player of the Year award, after the PFA confirmed the shorlist for the prestigious accolade.

After Thierry Henry had collected the Premiership award in both 2003 and 2004, and Chelsea's defensive star John Terry was the 2005 recipient, last year belonged to Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard.

Whoever wins this year's title will certainly be following in some very illustrious footsteps as, in addition to Henry, Terry and Gerrard, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Teddy Sheringham and Roy Keane are recent winners.

The list of this season's noiminees reads like a who's who of international football - and Cristiano Ronaldo will certainly be among the favourites having been a shining light for Manchester United.

Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas, Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes are also in the running and it is sure to be a close run thing.

PFA PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Didier Drogba (Chelsea)
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Ryan Giggs (Manchester United)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
Paul Scholes (Manchester United)

Arsenal star Fabregas and Manchester United winger Ronaldo are also in line for the Young Player of the Year award, but face competition from Reading striker Kevin Doyle, Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon, Manchester City defender Micah Richards and the winner of the award for the last two years, Wayne Rooney.

PFA YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
Kevin Doyle (Reading)
Aaron Lennon (Tottenham)
Micah Richards (Manchester City)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

Personally i'd give them both to Ronaldo but that won't happen.

Ronaldo for the main prize and Fabregas for the young player imo.

Ronaldo will get the main one. Fabregas or Lennon might get the second. Would have liked to see Rio in that list, not one defender in it.

Maybe I've got a bad memory but what as Gerrard done to deserve being nominated.

Hopefully Dogshite doesn't win, Ronaldo deserves it.

Vidic should have been on there

I have a bad feeling theyll give Ronaldo the Young players award and Drogba the senior one

Again, why on Earth is Gerrard in the main awards?

I was looking over the scouse forums and even they share the opinion.

Some are quite bitter and twisted though, but the majority seem to agree aswell.
Where is Essien? He has been immense this year.
Lampard, like it or not, has scored huge amounts of goals.

May I be bold enough to say that perhaps Giggs really hasn`t done enough to be in that list. IMVHO Rio has been more important, and better than Giggs this year. Giggs has been great, but Rio has been greater.

I don't know. Giggs was magical in the first half of the season. He then quitened down a bit and since then he's been on and off.
Rio will never get recognition from these awards.

It would be truly idiotic if Ronaldo didn't win it.
This awards been marred ever since Ginola and not Keane won it in 99.

Spot the monkey on rawk who hasn't watched a game of football this season. The clue is in the question.

Heres another clue for those intellectually challenged among us (spammy, sutty)

What as Paul Scholes done to get in as well, his season as been no better than Gerrard's.

Saw that aswell. At least others actually turned on him for this.

I think that they are both cnuts.

However , Ronaldo's skin looks like it is made out of plastercine.

He is unnaturally shiney isn't he? Almost polished like.

I wonder if he took the term 'getting a buffed up body' too seriously?

No Peter Crouch? but he has good award winning skills for a big man.

Dogbreath and Ronaldo will probably get them but i'd like to see Giggs get it personally.

What you're trying to say, is that you'd love to take him up his batty.

Nice.

Thats pretty much what I thought he was trying to say as well, the big ronaldo loving, jock strap sniffing gayer

I wonder if Sutty's got a thing for any other of our players.

Rio perhaps? Maybe Rooney and some hot Scouse loving??

I wouldn't do any jock strap sniffing mind.

The elazzy straps on mine when I used one for cricket used to floss my crack. Some nasty discolouration results.

Drogba has been quiet this past month or 2. Ronaldo on the other hand just keeps scaring the shit out of defenders.

I'm not sure. I reckon he has a picture of Gary Neville on his bedroom wall, and probably shapes his moustache to match gazza's.

He's also expressed his wish to be the one who pops Fletchers cherry, which is slightly disturbing

Frankly, if we win the Treble again, I'd offer myself to you all.
