Gaming PlayStation 4 (Console)

Ah yes, well done your grammar detection is top notch.

I noted that the arguments between yourself and Weaste is fecking old and tiring, your fecking dragging it on.

I am actually interested in hearing news on the PS4, which this thread will hopefully cover.

I'm off for the night.

It already has, I thought you read it? We covered the news before anyone else. You don't seem to understand that.

You do need sleep it seems.

Go and change your tampon, I've found their discussion quite interesting.

Will the PS4 carry on using PSN accounts from the PS3 or do we have to re-register with new accounts?

I hope the in-game XMB isn't as clunky and that reading/sending messages doesn't take as long as it currently does.

You use the same account. Heck, you use the same account with a VITA.

It0s not using the XMB, well, not as you know it.

The rumours are that Microsoft are looking to make more of a next-gen media centre rather than a bonafide gaming machine like the PS4 is supposed to be.

Could just be bollocks though.

We know that the PS4 is a gaming box (not that it won't do other things, it will), simply by the RAM they are using. Sony has its mojo back!

In all honesty I can't get anyone to talk about the next XBox. I don't know if Microsoft has daggers at their throats or what, but nobody will tell me shit about the thing.

Maybe they're making sure everyone stays quiet for their secret reveal on the 19th ;)

Nah, I'm sure once Sony has revealed what they want to and E3 gets closer, people will start talking about the new Xbox.

No it's weird. They will blab about the Sony console but won't say shit about the Microsoft one, and I mean, nowt!

Maybe they sent round a load of NDAs to anyone who knew the slightest detail. I don't know how effective they are though.

Well unless they work for Microsoft and had a say in the console I don't see why they'd be ashamed of it.

Maybe they're ashamed of their game because it doesn't make the most of the console's amazing power

Or maybe they're too scared to talk about Microsoft with you ;)

You will be seeing Killzone 4. :)

I have no clue what the team that put Uncharted 3 are up to, maybe Lambs does? The Uncharted 2 team are on The Last of Us.

We'll probably only see 2 or 3 games. Think it's obvious that one will be Killzone 4, the other will be the racer that Evolution studio is working on (hopefully new IP and not Motostorm) and perhaps Little Big Planet 3. Maybe something from Studio Cambridge to show off the new Dual Eye camera/Move stuff that the PS4 is meant to ship with.

Think we'll see a lot at E3. Media Molecule are working on a new IP, which is not LBP, but that maybe to early to be seen. Naughty Dog won't have two games announced at the same time. Same as Quantic Dream, who are working on a game called Singularity for the PS4, but have not released Beyond: Two Souls yet. You then have what ever Sucker Punch (who have been super quiet, are they even hiring?) are doing.

I wonder if The Last Guardian has been pushed to the PS4 now as well?

Weaste you have actually managed to make me semi excited about this. I don't normally pay to much attention to things until they are confirmed and about to go on sale, so this better live up to the excitement your creating.

Won't be exciting unless the games on show impress with their interactivity. I'm bored of graphics this gamification that. Give me better AI, controls and interactive things I can do in-game that would floor me. I wish more of the pretty graphics budget will go into such things instead.

Core gaming in general has gone really sterile and games these days play pretty much the same as they did years ago, just with a different coat of paint. If Kinect 2 allows developers to come up with new interesting gaming experiences I'll be getting the Xbox instead.

Really looking forward to the reveal, im not attached to Sony or Microsoft (owned both a ps3 and 360) so i'll make my decision on what console to buy based on their presentations. Im just hoping for some cool features and if Bungie's new game Destiny is shown that will be even better.
I think it's a good step by Playstation to adjust the Ps4 pad though, the ps3 pad is shite compared to the Xbox one in my opinion. Iv actually bought games for the Xbox based on this so the change of pad is quite a huge deal to me.

As I've said, Sony has got its mojo back! :)

They are betting the whole company on this thing!

This a thousand times.

Also, for me, the whole thing about "new ways of gaming" is done and a bit boring now. Using something other than a keypad, mouse or controller always felt like a gimmick that got old quickly. There are some things they can pull from it and use in the future but I wish they would concentrate on the AI and the gameplay.

The single thing which makes games like COD a bit boring and unchallenging is the simple AI. Games like Dues Ex and Skyrim have enough variety in the main characters options to warrant a second play through but if they AI was better and had more variety, thought and personality it would make each play through different and more rewarding. It's the same repetitive and predictable patrol routes. Highlight the isolated, out of view point and take them down. Cover the alarm panel and you're safe. It's so linear. They never think enough to set you up, to out think you. If there are two routes and you cause a fuss on one route all the enemies run straight to that point. I've never played a game where one has enough forethought to send a group to cover the other exit point and cut you off.

I'd rather graphics stood still for the next 5 years and they spent their budgets on the AI team.

There are multiple ways to attempt AI, and none of them are easy to pull off.

I appreciate that, I was aware when I was writing it that it could come across as ignorant to the difficulty of coding intuitive AI but that's why I said about graphics staying still and code moving forward. I get the feeling that games developers and producers right now put far more emphasis, priority and money into how a game looks than how it plays.

I'll agree with that. Use the extra power from the next gen of games to make the enemy think things through better. Graphics are good enough for the moment to be left to stagnant for a while. Annoyingly graphics in game trailers is what initially gets people interested, so that is generally the focus it seems.

AI is very complex, the Artificial Neural Network approach isn't really suited to short scripted games, and the rules based thing (declarative programming such as in Prolog) is a mess. I mean, "going over the top" of the trenches in WW1 was a product of human intelligence. I'd much prefer an advancement in real world physics first.
