Pogba

Half our players have done it over the past 3/4 years. I agree with Ralf that they should stay at the club but that’s not relevant to what was happening previously. I don’t see any other players singled out.

The more I think about it and the least it makes sense. Injured players are on a different schedule than the rest of the team, it's one of the notorious reasons behind players struggling from a mental standpoint when they are injured for a long period of time since they are not with the rest of the team despite using the same facilities. And places like Doha and Dubai specializes in sports science, they have the best facilities, they have a large proportion of the best trainers and medical specialist which is why pretty much all top athletes, they ones competing individually end up spending a fair amount of time there.

Well let’s see if our injury record improves, not just Pogba but the entire squad.

Oh he definitely should not have been. Because we knew what we needed to do, half-arsed it with Matic and by not doing what was necessary it has culminated in an absolute waste of money.

I'm not sat here saying it's entirely down to us and Pogba has no portion of the blame but when you can see what is needed to get the most from the player and don't do it then it's hard to blame the player entirely in my book.

If you play Pogba in that French midfield without a decent defensive partner you will see a totally different player, if he was playing at Juve without quality defensive midfielders beside him then we wouldn't have ever bought him back. It's just the basic requirement and when you see McFred being walked through by relegation sides and realise that's who we are partnering him with, I just think it's ignorant of us to ignore that fact and it's why you can guarantee the club that does get him will have that DM in place for him and he will shine.
Very true but we have also witnessed Pogba's ass being handed to him on countless occasions by mediocre/below average opponents. I just don't think he was ever suitable for this league.

He is as suitable as any other player, there isn't a single player that hasn't had poor games against mediocre below average opponents. Partiuclarly when in our case it's linked to poor team performances. I'm amazed by people peddling that idea even though it makes no common sense.

Just more whataboutisms and if onlys when it comes to Pogba. All fart and no shit.

Well, how do you determine that a particular player isn't suited to a league if you don't compare him and his performances to other players or if you don't qualify that statement. Do you consider that all our players are unsuited to the PL since none of them perform with any remarkable consistency?

If this is true and he accepts we deserve everything happening to us right now. We need to implement a Man City style system where we have wage structure and don't break it for anyone regardless of who they are or how well they are performing. And that starts by offloading the high earners who have consistently not earned that amount of money.
I’ve got to agree. I find it staggering that our wage bill in over 80m per year more than City’s. It truly highlights how poorly our club has been ran over the past 8/9 years

Just go away. Never get into bed with Raiola again.

This guy is remarkably much injured. Feels like it should have a name. It's the same Pogba cycle every year.

The Pogba Cycle
Phase 1. Plays a world class game or two
Phase 2. Plays a lot of mediocre matches
Phase 3: Agent or brother wont stop talking
Phase 4: Gets injured, plays more mediocre games

Repeat season after season.

Probably best for a parting of the ways this summer. He's had ages here, I repeatedly backed him, but he was just never consistent and not for long.

Unfortunately the legacy a lot of us will remember is the haircuts and for needlessly trying to hold off 3 men in the centre circle, losing it, and us conceding a great chance and often a goal.

Fair enough. I’m just sick of people moaning about Pogba going there

Was it not 'proven' in the Football Leaks that City pay heaps of their players and employees in overseas accounts, that are off the City books?

This is it, this is litterally the first football memory that comes to mind when I think of Pogba. What game was it again? Southampton at Old Trafford?

The problem with Pogba for me is not his ability on his day, when he's obviously world class, it's all the days when he's nowhere near his best, and I don't think anyone can argue the bad days have far outweighed the good days for Pogba in a United jersey.

I can't help but feel him and Raiola have taken us for a ride all these years.

If we offer him a new deal we've learned feck all

I get why people moan about it because if you don't put it in context, it makes little sense to see athletes rehab on a different continent but when you consider schedules and the fact that Football clubs don't really have the best facilities in professional sports, it begins to make sense. The NFL is arguably the sport that has the best facilities and also the best staffs and even they don't necessarily keep injured players around, part of the rehab is often outsourced. In the MLB it's even worse in the sense that the systematic way of doing things is that a player that has a long injury is almost certainly nowhere near the team, he will be in the secondary facilities that franchises have in Florida or Arizona.

And in general whoever you are the best concentration of care for athletes is in Florida, Doha or Dubai, that's where all top athletes go at some point.

I dread the day we announce that Pogba has signed a new 400k deal.
81 games missed due to injury alone in 5 years.

This is a now or never chance to get rid and not repeat a high cost mistake, something the club has done a few times in the past.

The Pogba situation is very complex and it's no longer possible for commonsense and moderation to prevail in any negotiations between the parties. One of two things will happen, either he will renew at a ridiculously high wage or he will leave on a free at huge loss to United.

Either way, it’s a huge loss of money.

It’s also a huge loss to Utd either way.
He simply isn’t anywhere near being worth the outrage wages.
It’ll be a total waste of money.

No idea why we are increasing his wages from the last contract. He's 29. He won't get better. In fact he's far more likely to get worse at his age. His performances did not substantiate the contract he was already one, much less an increase. And i've been a Pogba supporter, but was able to retain my brain.

Just let him go already. The guy will very likely do the same crap again in his next club, so stop wasting money on him.

Out of all our big name signings, I’m still in disbelief that he didn’t end up working out. Seemed like a perfect Mou player. Has an absurd amount of talent + has all the physical attributes to be the best midfield player in the world. That all just leads me to believe he has a major mentality problem, and those are almost always impossible to fix.

Under the right (read:tough and strict) manager, he’s top, top class. Won’t ever happen here though.

When you put it like that, feckin'ell!
Please rescind that contract!

Even if we’d gone 4-3-3 and put two beasts in beside him he’d probably still have been injured so often that we would have eventually needed to find another talismanic player in midfield. Also the fact he wanted to leave after about a year. I can’t actually believe we didn’t sell him after about 3 or even 4 years with the injuries and wanting to leave but we bury our heads in the sand and wait till the shit hits the fan to do anything about anything and even then we are a year late…. And here we are 6 years later probably secretly delighted no club matched our valuation all these years and he’s almost being forced to sign with us again, because nobody else will match our crazy high money. A dysfunctional marriage of convenience. We get to keep an unhappy but marketable player and save on spending a fee on a player in his position till he’s at least Matic/Mata age. This club will be the death of me!

Rangnick strikes me as the kind of guy to defer any contractual decision on Pogba until he has seen him play a few games

I like Paul Pogba and I think under Sir Alex or a manager resembling him he would have shone.
However, the saga with him has gone on too long and we're not going to see him deliver especially under the circumstances that have dominated since he's been at United.
And the wages alone for somebody who is a bit of a sicknote can't be justified.

His agent is also toxic - and that is almost paying a compliment to that POS. Time to offload such parasitical middle men that are also a factor in de-stabilising United. No extension for Pogba would mark a small but significant step in beginning to rectify United's problems.
Such actions are needed to deal with the rot seriously.

From a sporting perspective, the last 6 years have been a failure for both parties, so it’s best that he moves on and we start building our squad with young, hungry players fitting how we want to play.

From a financial/commercial perspective, keeping him even at the cost of doubling his wage is the rational move, as hard as it is to stomach the thought. The increase would amount to ~ 50m transfer fee over a 5 years contract. It’s almost a guarantee that we won’t be able to get anyone in for 50m and replace Pogba’s commercial value, in addition to the bonus that if we decide to sell him in a year or two we can recoup some money instead of none. Of course, there is possible fallout from other players wanting the same deal when it comes to their renewal, but that’s already a reality when you see how many of them are choosing to run their contract down nowadays.

Im glad in a way that it sounds like we arent getting Haaland. I definitely wont miss Raiola. People say he's just doing a job for his client but Mendes does that same job just as well without all the constant negativity.
