Pogba

They looked like a proper, unified team in 2018, but this summer it appeared to be the old France again.

Difference in being a team full of players who hadn't yet achieved anything at an international level versus a team full of world cup winners. Managing the egos around the team was always going to be difficult the second time around, especially in a team prone to bouts of disunity like France.

If we make him the highest paid player at the club then we deserve the subsequent consequences.

Rather keep him for 1 more season and let him go on a free next season. The reported fee we would get if sold this season is abysmal and with all these quality players we are apparently looking to sign, I would love to finally see how Pogba does with more quality players around him. Who knows, he may change his mind and then want a new contract if he feels we actually may be able to compete for trophies.

If he does still plan to leave, then in January 2022 he would be allowed to talk to other clubs and even agree a pre-contract agreement. As we would now know his decision we have 6 months to start to find a suitable replacement for him. At this point, as it appears we are building a solid squad, the only areas we would then need to strengthen would probably be Pogba's replacement, a replacement for Cavani if he goes and maybe a goalkeeper.
I’d rather have 50m and say thankyou to whoever buy him from us. Even though I believe he would turn into worldclass player for his new club, like he always does for France.

Personally I just want him gone, fed up of the drama that is Paul Pogba.

If he was pulling up trees every week you'd allow him to get away with stuff but we get more half arsed displays than we do top draw ones. To say the Pogba of France doesn't turn up for United is an understatement, it makes you wonder if he's even interested about playing for United or if he's really just taking us for a ride.

Either way I'm done, I hope they don't give him a stupid contract and I hope the PSG rumours are completely true. Surely only they are stupid enough to sign him off us.

The French league is made for him, he will strut around like a peacock knowing he's levels above the majority of the league in a team of players in a similar mould.

I wouldn't be surprised if we offered him a bumper payrise and he signs a new deal with us, as I wouldn't be surprised if he left us this summer for a minimal transfer fee.
Or the worst case scenario where he doesn't sign, stays another year then leaves for free. Win win for Pogba and fatfeck. Terrible for us as a club. Whatever happens we're going to get shafted.

Think he only does that if he has his heart set on RM

Agreed. People who say he has to sign are being naive at best. We all know if he does within a year, 2 at the most once again he'll be, "looking for a new challenge". Personally, I don't want to get on his merry-go-round and hope we can salvage something for him this summer.

That's only half of the problem though. It also creates an issue with lots of others wanting more money too.

He's just not worth 400k a week. End of story. Just hope we can move him on for 45-50m and be done with it. It's tiring having to tell his worshipers on here just how wrong they are.

Just get rid... so sick of this "World Champion"!

Obviously, outside of the club know one knows what's going to happen but it wouldn't surprise me if RM don't want anything to do with him now that Zidane has gone. After Raiolas words against them when Pogba signed for us I don't think Florentino would welcome him with open arms. Could well be wrong though.

this is what i fear. he will just stay and take the money, after years of wanting out

The most recent update was that his camp i.e. Riaola had been in touch with Madrid. Madrid reply was to rundown his contract and see what happens next summer as a free agent. Totally non commital. As the poster above said Zidane is gone and Perez isn't too fussed. Hence the links to PSG now. I would rather we got some money for him than nothing.

For me it comes down to 2 things:
  1. He's been eyeing an exit for most of his time here, after already leaving on a free once (variety of reasons)
  2. I'm genuinely not convinced he gets into our best 11 for a big game. It's opponent dependent at best.
Of course he would play plenty and be seen as a starter, but in a CL final, do you move him out wide and bench Rashford? It would be very form dependent as Rashford has a great big game record and gives us the running in behind that we need to balance out others. Do you bench Bruno (not for me in 90% of games, but there are some where Pogba suits the #10 more). I would never play him in a 2 in a CL final type of game, so it really isn't a clear thing for me as crazy as it is. He regularly misses gametime through injuries, he generally likes a slower pace than what the premier league does..

I just think it's best for all parties if he goes. We can get a midfielder that actually suits what we are trying to do, as Pogba will forever be shoe horned in due to his undoubted quality, but without having a team or style suited to him.

I hope we dont get burned again and he leaves on a free again.
Sell him.
To call that an embarrassment would be an understatement. Losing Pogba on a free transfer, buying him back for £90 million, winning pretty much feck all, then losing him for no money again - our rivals will never allow us to forget it. :nervous:

Anything published attributed to Pogba has the slimy mitts of Riaola all over it. Pogba won’t do or say anything unless it cleared by Rialoa I believe. It’s all posturing to squeeze the last penny out of whoever buys Pogba or if he signs a new contract. All Riaola wants is his commission, end of story. Start a rumour here, a tweet there and panic United into offering Pogba a mega deal or get PSG to get their oily chequebook out. Couldn’t care less if he left. One or two good performances in a season isn’t good enough.

I am surprised.. not really.... that we are not actively putting him on sale. Awesome or not, he is just not worth 400k

If we let his contract run down he's got a move to City written all over him. Ala Tevez
Guardiola said he and Raiola will never work together. Didn't Raiola call him "worse than a dog" or something like this?

I remember the press conference after our 3-2 comeback against City, when we had Mourinho. It was then that Pep said Pogba was offered to him by Raiola or people close to him. So he asked why would Raiola offer him such a big player, if he thinks he is worse than a dog.

There is no way we should be paying Pogba 400k a week, he is not worth it.

He may sign the contract and throw his toys out the pram every 6 months which is what he has been doing for a while now.

Why do we keep having the same conversations about him.

He should be in his prime, unfortunately he does not have the mentality that we need him to have.

I am sure going to PSG / Juve will suit him better, a slower league where he isnt closed down as much will suit his style of play.

Who are the players in the squad who have the mentality we need and what have they achieved in their careers so far with this mentality?

Its difficult to say what the right mentality is, i'd probably say one that shows a greater level of commitment and doesnt flirt with other clubs is a good starting point though.

Who are the players in this squad asking for 400k.

We have seen the possibilities with what Maguire, Shaw, Bruno, Rashford, there is fight within them.

Not sure if I want him to stay or not. That, in and of itself, is quite telling.

High maintenance and drama for a quality player who only gets going when the setting is just right.

I feel the same, I certainly wouldn't cry if he went

Not sure 3 goals and 5 assists is irreplaceable :wenger:
I’ve been thinking about this and it’s a pretty damming stat really. Pogba is a joy to watch when he’s on form but when you consider the mistakes he’s capable of and consider the tactical issues he causes, you have to ask yourself is he worth it?

The answer sadly is “probably not”. If we can get a fee for him this summer and bring in a replacement, even if it’s not a superstar we will be no worse off.

I'd rather sell him than make him the highest paid player at the club. His performances doesn't justify the £400k a week that i've seen mentioned in the tabloids.

He conceded as many penalties as goals scored if I'm not mistaken. Net 0 goals, 5 assists.

Edit: Mind you, he's probably assisted a few of the goals we've conceded too with losing the ball. Might end up with no net positive contributions :wenger:

You tell me, how would I know that? I don't even know Pogba's demands or whether he has any intention of staying. You evaded the answer to my question btw.

What are these possibilities? You named a player with one of the worst work rates in the team for the last two years.

I am looking at what they bring to the team, maybe mentality wasn't the right word.

Pogba has been here how many years, no one knows his best position should tell you everything you need to know.

He's had more outbursts than spells of good form for United.

I would not lose any sleep if he leaves, it would at least put the end to the Pogba drama, all the crap about we haven't unlocked him.

It is the most flawed argument I have ever seen. We signed a prime Matic with no success, he must be the only world class player I know that needs a DM and LW to do dirty work for him. A player that needs 2 defensive players alongside him is not worth it.

We never signed a prime Matic
