Pogba

After this season I don't ever want Pogba to play for us. I don't ever want a player managed by his agent to play for us. Giving Pogba a new contract is equivalent to spitting on SAF's face and defecating on the club crest.

I'm glad you're not being melodramatic about it or anything :lol:

For 500k/week I'd expect world class quality 40+ games a season. Can anyone honestly claim they've seen anything recently that suggests Pogba is capable of that? Between injury, poor form and inconsistency we've not had 40 world class performances out of him in the last five and a half years.

Even ignoring the impact it would have on the wage structure, it's simply not value for money.
Who’s getting paid £500k a week? I thought Pogba was on a maximum of £290k if he hits all of his bonuses.

Pogba threads are the weirdest player threads on this forum. I feel like I’m stepping into an alternative reality every time I visit one. I constantly read about how he’s poor 80% of the time etc, but whenever I watch him play he seems like one of the best players on the field. He’s a bad influence, despite everyone that works with him (bar Jose) saying the opposite. Fake wage figures. Made up claims about him faking injury. Bad attitude etc etc. I will never understand it but maybe I’m blind.

There is a contract offer there for him, it really is up to him whether he wants to sign it or not. He needs to be honest with himself about this. He is on his last major contract now, is he happy to go a few more years without major trophies? It is unlikely we are going to be consistently challenging City and Liverpool for a few years yet.

If he wants guaranteed trophies, he should go elsewhere so his agent can stop moaning about it.

The fact we are even discussing whether we should extend him for big money or let him go shows you how polarizing he has been at United

I genuinely cant think of a full game where he was dominate from the first to the last minute.

The lad has all the talent in the world but his ability to stay fit and consistent negates that

Would you pay someone huge money to be off sick for large periods of time? No so why should United...

If he wanted to stay he would of by now, time to offload and some other fanbase can have the same debate we are when Raiola has another essay in the media

So we bring him over from France, progress him through our youth system and then bring him gradually into the first team.

Not good enough for him, didn't matter the investment we put into his development. His head was turned and he left the club on a free transfer.

So yeah, I think he insulted the greatest manager that has ever lived and also the club.

Simple as that really.
Indeed, he should have played for us for free at least until he's 25.

United saving him from that backwater called France that doesn't even have running water or electricity should have been enough even if we played 7 defenders, instead of selecting him.

We need a midfielder anyway. If he leaves we need 2.
Agreed. We need a DM now and we'd need an 8 if he left. I might top myself if we start another season with the McFred dream team.

When you see him play like when he came on against Brighton, you think we should do everything to keep him. The problem is that’s not what you are getting for your 500k a week and that’s why you have Fred and Scott. You can be in a relationship that the sex is brilliant but only get it on your birthday rather than with someone that it is average but at least it’s regular….your choice.

If he stays we can just sign one DM and be done with midfield. If he doesn't we will have to find someone as good as him and a DM that was originally planned.

Hope he stays. We still need a forward and a right sided attacker .

I don't believe for a second he'll go to either club but not because he respects United so much. He's always wanted Madrid above all else and at PSG he'll be a national hero. Absolutely nothing wrong if he chooses either but personally I don't believe he deserves any sort of respect from United fans. Why should he? Since day one he's been plotting his "escape" from United which shows he's never been fully committed and a player that's not fully committed deserves nothing in my book especilly when his mouth pieces keep doing their best to cause unrest between the player and the club.

I cant believe people think that if Pogba stays on a wage he's no where near worth he'll suddenly become a different player and give his all for the rest of his contract. No matter what his technical ability is he's been very underwhelming in the 6 years he's been here and that's never going to change but supporters still want him to stay which is fair enough. We've all our own opinions but personally it's something I just can't wrap my head around.

I believe Pobga has every respect for United, and no words from his agent or brother will change that fact - at least not until he publically condemns the club in his own words anyway, which he is yet to do.

I think you've been misinformed regards his feelings towards Madrid, mate. When it became public knowledge that Pogba was planning to join us from Juve, Real tried to intervene and hijack the deal with a counter offer. But he turned them down and joined us anyway, dispelling any notion that he wants Real above all else. His feelings may have changed in recent years, I don't know, but I do know he's one of Europe's best midfielders on his day.

You only need to watch the game the other night for evidence of that. We watched Fred bumble about the pitch like a headless chicken pretending he knows how to press, misplacing passes and generally looking like the worst player on the park - for both sides. Then Pogba replaced him with 20 minutes to go and showed us not only what a proper footballer looks like but what we'll be missing should he leave this summer.

Also, I honestly believe that if he re-signs for us, the whole Pogba Drama show will end for good. It will be the last contract of his career, removing any thoughts of playing elsewhere and keeping his gobshite agent quiet in the process.

Can we stop with the 500k weekly wages bullshit being peddled in the thread as if its true.

Plenty of respectable & reputable sources mentioned that the club offered him wages that can go up to 400k (the point is 400k being the highest he could earn and the contract is on par with what DDG is on now), and the duration is 3 years with an option to extend for another year. the contract was offered last summer, and since then, the club didn't offer any improved terms, it's clearly a "take it or leave it" offer from the club.

of course I think PP should leave, it's best if the club overhauled the entire midfield options we currently have, maybe keep McFred as squad options, but best is if they are entirety replaced. (Pogba, Matic, DvB, McFred to be let go and get 2 DMs & Box2Box CM + promote 1 of Garner or Majberi)

The only reason to be glad if he signs a new deal is if a transfer is lined up for the summer too. That's obviously too far fetched sadly, so whilst him leaving on a free for a second time is disappointing given what we've had from him and how much we've paid, it's the only good outcome for the team to progress.

As if Pogba is only good once a year and non existent in comparison to our other players every other game. Shite analogy.

No you are choosing to read it that way, we did bring him over from France. We bought him basically.

No, you insinuated that he owed something to United(outside of the three years contract they both agreed on). Otherwise your post makes zero sense.

If he stays: excellent news, one of our best players remains and it's one less position to replace.

If he leaves: bad, but not the end of world IF we replace him correctly. Whether I trust the club to do that? I really don't think so. I also think they'll skimp out and we will only sign one midfielder rather than a DM and a CM. Which is 100% what we need.

Pogba - likely to leave;
Matic - just not good enough, should leave;
Fred - squad player at best, ideally we bin;
McTominay - squad player/rotational

We desperately need two midfielders. Hell I'd even argue we need 2 even if he stayed.

A better analogy is probably would you rather date someone who is well rounded in life or someone who only does some really awesome things but you have to pick up the slack for their shortcomings
That being said, I like Pogba. I hope he stays as long as he's willing to put in 100% effort every game he plays. I don't get pissed because he's not Kante-esque... but I do get annoyed if he (or other players) are lackadaisical in defense.

I think we should have sold him a year or so ago but now, I'd rather he signs a new contract then lose him for free and then have to spend extra on more players. The key is if he is determined to stay.

If he was going to sign a new deal he would have signed it by now, to save himself carrying the risk of career-ending injury. The club should plan ahead for a life without him.

You will have to pick up the slack for a well rounded person too. Being well rounded doesn't make you omnipotent, every well rounded player in the world is supported by well rounded players and/or specialists.

Sorry which of our midfielders are more well rounded than Pogba?

It's very clear for a long time that Pogba is not going to sign a new contract. This is the tactic used by most of Raiola's client to make more money Pogba, Donnarumma, Lingard. Haaland is going to leave Dortmund with very cheap release clause to make more money elsewhere too.

The damning thing about Pogba is he never once came out and denied the rumours being spouted by Raiola and his brother on quite a few occasions which strongly suggests he was in agreement with them or they where his own words coming out of other peoples mouths.

Before he signed for us Raiola confirmed in an interview with marca he was in negotiations with Madrid for them to sign Pogba with speculation that the deal didn't happen because of Raiolas outrageous demands on his cut of the deal. Madrid weren't prepared to pay it and we where. Obviously its all speculation but rumours starting just a year and a bit later that Raiola was already touting Pogba to City makes a strong suggestion United weren't Pogbas first choice.

Reference the game the other night, it doesn't really hold much water with me. We all know what Pogba can produce when he wants, especially when he's putting himself in the shop window with his contract expiring but we've seen so little of that in all the time he's been here (bar Oles interim period) that I wouldn't hold my breath that he's suddenly going to explode and become the player we all want to see.

I think it's fair to say that Pogba is sometimes a defensive liability, especially when he is playing in a 2 man midfield. I'm not talking about other players so I don't see how that's relevant.

You made an analogy about Pogba where there was a choice between someone well rounded and someone who isn’t. Well in that sense our choices would be Pogba, Fred, McT, Matic. If you don’t want to talk about other players don’t make any analogy of Pogba in relation to our other choices.

No he made an analogy about dating someone...made no reference to our other choices...that’s you stretching cause you leapt to the defence of your favourite player without actually trying to engage with the point he was making. In general, you might prefer a consistent 7/10 player than one who gives you a mix of 8 and 9s alongside 4 and 5s. Not a controversial statement at all really.

I strictly spoke about Pogba and didn't mention any other players specifically. Please stop arguing for the sake of it
