Politics at Westminster | BREAKING: UKIP

Today is apparently Mays 100th day in office. Not been a great start from her, been a series of policy leaks and denials.

Listening to a Commons debate on Concentrix's shambolic management of benefits.

The company should be fined, as well as being binned from the contact.

May getting wrecked by Corbyn at PMQs is like being nutmegged by John O'Shea

May's a bit rubbish in general, she's trying to play the role of populist with Brexit and she's not good at it at all.

So Brexit means Brexit but Surplus doesn't mean Surplus huh. To be fair it's good news they're not so wedded to rapid debt reduction but they're going against one of their rather large mandate items to achieve the surplus in this parliament.

Wasn't this announced a few months ago?

Was it? We've known the targets wouldn't be hit for a long time but I hadn't seen a specific policy reversal until today. Although pushing it back to the next parliament is nothing new, i'm sure they'll campaign on it again come election time.

The outlook he's presenting looks fecking bleak though. Hitting debts of 90% of GDP is bad enough without all the lowered growth outlooks as well. Wonder if the tories still blame all the debt on Labour

Revealed: Chilcot inquiry was set up ‘to avoid blame'

Secret cabinet documents show Iraq hearings were set up to stop individuals being held accountable

Serious business, but I did have to laugh at this bit..

Chris Lamb, a freedom of information campaigner from Bristol who won an information tribunal ruling in May requiring the Cabinet Office to disclose the papers, told the Observer: “Avoiding blame is civil service code for not holding people accountable.”

'Avoiding blame' is a code? Funny, because I'd always thought it was plain English, and that 'holding people accountable' was the more vague buzzwordy phrase.

Lib Dems reckon they will pull it off in Richmond.

Hopefully the start of a comeback from them in some form.

Goldsmith's move was nothing but a publicity stunt...he was still going to be an MP if the runway was built. Would be funny to see him out on his arse.

Some chatter about a 2,000 vote win for them. Would be entertaining.

Should be noted that chatter about by-elections is quite often bollards.

Its refreshing to hear some good news from the political sphere for once.

Good riddance to the toff twat, also hope this sets a trend of Tory seats at risk from the Lib Dems.

Got fewer votes than they have members there, it seems.

Labour lost their deposit!

Good.

They shouldn't have put a candidate up. They couldn't win so all they threatened to do was split the anti-Goldsmith vote. At least people were smart enough to vote tactically and ignore them.

Going forward alliances between Labour/LD/Greens might be key in certain areas. It's clear that if a GE was called right now May would sweep the board, but if the LD's can continue to threaten her in certain Remain constituencies then her position may begin to look a lot more tenuous.

Realistically no one party is going to beat the Tories, but when you compile Labour votes, LD votes and Green votes in polls (plus throw in SNP for good measure), they come close. If they can, they'll be able to start putting pressure on the Tories in the same way UKIP have done from their own position. UKIP have always been a constant noise, if you will, despite having one MP and around 10-15% of the vote they continually appear as a threat. The Lib Dems need to begin presenting themselves in the same manner.

Labour already face losing their working class vote to UKIP at the moment. Being seen to enter liberal alliances with the LDs and, worse, the Greens, both anti-Brexit parties, would likely be very damaging to them.

If you're right-wing leaning, I think he deserves it. He's changed British politics for the next few decades.

Pretty sure the Time person of the year should be 'You' again. With the tagline: 'You all fecked things up'
