Politics at Westminster | BREAKING: UKIP

It'll be interesting to see how they do in the local elections in May, they got over 20% last time round.

Well you're leaving 13% of the voters basically unrepresented which I don't think is fair.

That's a nice way of twisting it. If they got 13% of the vote in each constituency (on average) they will be thoroughly beaten by at least two other candidates in every constituency. I don't see it as unfair that they aren't represented.

Another wqay of putting it would be that ~5.5m people supported a party and their voices are completely silent in parliament. FPTP has major issues.

It's not a fair system, but its main selling points have always been clarity of results, the constituency link and strong government rather than fairness.

There's no need of UKIP since UKIP policies had been adopted by the Tory party

If we had the dutch system with 650 MPs, they'd have taken 71 seats.

It's a crazy system. Crazy crazy crazy.

Still, it wouldn't be so bad if we had a PR House of Lords, giving them some representation.

As it is, the majority of voters are ignored entirely.

The absolute state of our current crop of politicians is truly shocking, starting with the clueless feckin Sprite riddled idiot PM all the way down to the clowns who think after all these years that it's still funny to stand as a Mobster Raving Loon.

Capped 1% pay increases all around for public sector workers. Yippee, I've been enjoying such a lucrative yearly bumper pay deal for seven years now and I was worried that they would give us something that didn't continue our race to the bottom. I feel bad for MPs though who are being forced to take a 1.4% deal, such a shame.

Wanking fecking cuntflaps.

Good to see the countries in such a good shape that the PM has enough time to whinge about made up news.

"As the daughter of a vicar…"

Usual pandering to the Daily Mail crowd. Funny how many things she can't give an answer to but any lines to whip up the right roll off her tongue.

What's even more ridiculous is that they'd only renamed the event all other advertising for it mentioned Easter anyway.

Yeah, in a wonderful series of events The Telegraph photoshopped a poster to cut out the word Easter so they could illustrate their story that the word Easter had been dropped from the event.

The spectacle of the Labour party at the moment is quite bizarre.

It's grotesque. Ken hasn't even been suspended from the party, just from holding office. Despite being found guilty. Despicable.

These sort of posts/views annoy me.
You doing much about it then apart from slagging everyone off?

What about a Donald Trump like person that thought the same and got involved, guessing he's a clown too?

We have no money!
MPs pay gets decided by an independent body and infact the MPs didn't want the pay rise, by pretty much were forced it (as crazy as that sounds).

Of course we have money, government isn't like your personal budget where if you don't have any cash in your pocket, you just stay in for a few weeks. We're the 6th richest country on earth (used to be 5th until Brexit), and apparently we can't afford basic care of our citizens? Bullshit.

They don't deal with reality, only the things that'll make them look good at their next dinner party. It's the same reason why we've had years of cuts and had them telling us there's no money, yet when a heavily divisive former PM dies the taxpayer is left to foot the bill because these same people tell us that "we can afford it". It's amazing how they can find ten million pounds to drive a dead body around town yet can't find anything to stop working class people from killing themselves after being told they're fit for work because they still have one working limb left. May is one of the worst and is somehow a step down from even Cameron. She has nothing but empty phrases and comes out with senseless, pointless, vapid phrases like "get on and deliver", or "breakfast means breakfast" or whatever shite she spouts nowadays.

Can't afford basic care?!

We're already paying over £450 BILLION on 'Social Protection', Education and Health....

Did you know that public sector pensions are included in Social Protection? Or indeed that those pensions account for a giant 42% of that supposed 'welfare' budget?

Were you also aware that we spend considerably LESS per capita on health than the US who have private healthcare?

I was under the impression the US spends more on healthcare than almost any other developed nation, with much worse results. I'm not sure using American healthcare spending as a point for comparison is helpful

Spiffing, marvellous, British pride, pip pip old chum, feck the poor, mmm yes. sorry I'm bored

How about we spend a third less per head than Germany on healthcare? The same for France.

The comparison with the US is absolutely critical though, because if the NHS goes, the american system is what you get. Every single advisor to the government brought in for healthcare reform, is from American healthcare. American health companies are already involved with the NHS due to the 2012 healthcare reform act that brought in enforced bidding. Guess who donated substantial sums to the tory party just before that? Your right, US healthcare corporations. And it allwoed them in.

If the NHS goes, that is what you get. And here's some more bad news. You can't afford US style healthcare. Less than 15% of people in the UK would be able to. Before the affordable care act, the average spend for a family of four was $20K a year, just for health insurance. That doesn't even include deductibles of you actually had to have any treatment.

Think about that. Just for the chance of treatment without going banckrupt, it would add around £18K a year to the average households bills. In a country with an average wage of £26K. Yeah, thats not a recipe for disaster at all.

I'd challenge anyone to analyse Livingstone and all the other comments and justify these 'anti semitism' claims. Ken did put his foot in his mouth but he didn't say anything untrue or discriminatory.

Certain elements of the media have been dishonest in their portrayal of 'anti-semitism' in this witch hunt. The Naz Shah case in point, where quotes were taken completely out of context, making it seem that she was condoning the Nazi genocide, when she was in fact she posted a picture claiming Israeli's actions maybe legal but so were the Nazi's and neither were ethnically right. 1 of the posters she posted that people claimed were anti-semitic was actually written by a Jewish man.

This is all coming from a media led lobby that any criticism of the Israeli state and any war crimes they commit equates to anti-semiticism.

Livingstone's comments that Hitler was "supporting" Zionism is like me pushing someone down a set of stairs and saying I was "supporting" them to get to the bottom. Its a gross interpretation of the truth. Facts, as well as quotes, can be taken out of context.

And no, I dont work for the Israeli state.

Zionists wanted to form a Jewish state in what is now Israel. Hitler wanted to forceable remove all Jews from Europe, initially considering dumping them all in Madagascar. Even if he'd wanted to forceably dump them all in Palestine, that would still not be 'supporting Zionism'.
