Geez, we've only just come out of the worst period of our last 30 years, and still people would propose putting the keys to the house in the hands of a completely no evidence he's up to it Giggs
Hide your house keys. Xakha is looking.

Seems like nobody is as loyal as Moyes. May consider taking him back.

Put it this way, 10 years ago we'd be having the same thread on who we want to succeed fergie. And the answer would be like this:

Moyes
O'Neil
Pep
Klopp
Simeone

Ancelotti
Jose
Giggs

I think you don't get how long ago 10 years is. Those names were either not in management or just started their managerial careers.

2008 thread (mostly Jose, mentions of Hiddink, O'Neill, Van Basten, Blanc): https://www.redcafe.net/threads/our-next-manager.226188/
2010 megathread: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/nex...ed-to-be-jose-mourinho-or-david-moyes.313181/
Moyes will never work with Rooney again.

Fact.

It's surprising that he was only mentioned on the second page. Would be my first choice for sure, his Napoli plays some breathtaking football.

Simeone as a more conservative choice - if he lasts until Mourinho is gone. He supposedly wanted to leave Atletico and only gave them the final season so that the transition to the new stadium went okay? It's possible that PSG would snatch him.
I think a lot of people have reservations about Sarri's defensive set ups. His attack is fantastic for sure, but I don't know about how good his teams are defensively.

anyone who wants to play attacking football and occasionally two strikers and attacking wingers. Don't ask for much

Moyes fit the profile perfectly.

Told you even with hindsight Moyes has merit for this job.

Yes.. But you got the point.

Names like pochetino, zidane, tuchel can easily turns out to be a laughable choice 5 years from now.

I think Steve Bruce is the man to take you forward. Club legend, he's a cracking manager, he deserves it.

Besides Moyesy and his highly rated tactically advanced and respected backroom staff, I'd go for Giggs and Neville. The club has lost its soul since Fergie left but I am a relic of the late 80s and 90s.

Far too early to even be thinking about a potential replacement. But as of now,it looks like Pochettino would be a good fit,but hopefully Jose will stick around for a while....

What are their credentials for the job?

Roy Hodgson. His team just beat Chelsea while playing 4-3-3; something that Mou couldn't do.

I think there's going to be a decent chance that United balls it up again.

To those who say it's too early - I agree that perhaps there will be a manager to come (into the limelight) but Mourinho is more than likely heading off in the next 2-3 years regardless of what nice words he has.

If United's board are sensible they will be already thinking about this.

As for the person, I have genuinely no idea. Poch is a good shout (obviously) right now but beyond him, I wouldn't even dare predict who United will plump for.

If/when he goes, my biggest fear is that we will take some club legend like giggs, scholes, neville. People without any credentials and experience .

Poch needs to win something though. No way I'd want another Moyes scenario whereby we appoint a manager who doesn't have a winning mentality. LVG was poor here but he at least had a history of winning and duly delivered an FA Cup.

A coupe of cups and a top four background at Spurs would do but if he's always the bridesmaid then I'd think twice.

As with the Mourinho appointment, it'll depend on who is available at the time and we have shown in the past we're a bit slow to move when managers are in demand. I hope we've learned that particular lesson.

When the time comes, the first thing the club should do in my view is to draw-up a profile of the ideal qualities for a manager in line with how the club would like the team to be - i.e. the board need to define what the "United way" actually is, starting with the style of play.

Once they have those qualities defined, then they should look recruit a manager that fits those qualities best, as opposed to what we have done since Sir Alex retired - go for three very different managers for reasons that don't seem to consider anything about the club itself and the team; instead we hired a manager based on his nationality, a successor to undo the damage of the manager hired based on his nationality, and then a manager to undo the damage of the manager hired to undo the damage of the manager hired based on his nationality.

Setting-out a consistent vision for the club should really be the foundation of future appointments - once we have that then hopefully we can identifying a manager based on substance.

Silva would certainly be on the 'watch list' - in fact I think Arsenal would do well to take him

You have to be impressed by a manager that manages to take over problem teams on limited budgets and gets great results
Moyes?

Sarri. Would love to see Utd play the kind of football Napoli does. The 4-4-2 romantics on here should want Jardim rather than Simeone me thinks. I'd take Poch for sure..
