Who would be your current choice for next manager after Jose Mourinho?

Pochetino would be best, but I think he is destined for Real/Barca. We missed our chance to get him.

Realistically my short list would be,

1. Pochettino - Utilises youth players, plays good football, knows the Prem. Hasn't won anything yet but it's important to remember he's been managing Spurs who only arrived a couple of seasons ago at the top level.

2. Low- Experienced manager whose used to managing some very names and knows to manage the biggest games.

3.Allegri- Tactically looks very astute but of course everything has to be measured by the fact he's managing Juve and a very average manager would be able to win Serie A with that team.

4.Marco Silva- Obviously a very good young coach who could possibly but down roots here and stay for a while. Of course he's not managed a big club but i'd much rather give him a chance rather than got for a Ancelotti.

5. Thomas Tuchel- Played some good stuff but fell out with the board and a lot of the players by the look of it. I quite like the heavy high pressing system Dortmund so I think he's worth a punt.

You know, Allegri made two CL finals in the last three years, which is much better than simply winning the league. That said, he is a laid back kind of manager and possibly more suited to Arsenal or PSG imho.

We need a poll in here, suggested choices:

Pochettino
Low
L.Enrique
Simeone
Blanc
Koeman
Tuchel
Ancelloti
Giggs
M.Silva
Allegri
Hughes
Guardiola
G.Neville
Howe
Other (comment)

thoughts on that list, exhaustive enough?

Just kidding, I'm not a masochist.

On a serious note what do people think of Henry's prospects of managing at the top level?

Lot's of Neville comparisons to be made, but I think Henry would do much better than Neville did. There's an understanding behind what he says and not just a reiteration of things he remembers from listening to great managers which I believe is behind Nevilles fall from grace as a pundit.

What part of this post has any relevance to this thread?

You can't post on a serious note and then say that.

I didn't realise Henry was barred from the pool of potential future United managers...

Unlikely, but not impossible.

Why on earth are people putting forward people with no (or in Giggs and Gary Neville's case very little) managerial history?

Whomever follows in Jose's footstep as our manager, will not be s rookie, that much is for certain.

As romantic a notion as Giggs, Scholes or one of our former players taking charge would be, it is not at all realistic at all.

We will appoint someone who has a history of managing big clubs, with big players, and who has had success in doing so.

To appoint anyone else is pure suicide.

As a joke mainly, we're not the people who decide who our next manager will be so some of us are making a joke.

Imagine what would happen if United did open up the manger position to a vote by the fan base. I bet the write in ballads would be hilarious. ‘Boaty McBoatface’

Since we don't know quite when José is going to leave us, then putting forward any potential successor is very problematic.

If he is going next summer, then these names in the poll might well be a good selection, but if he is here for another five or six years, then other names might pop up in that time frame.

So it is just very hard to push one name right now without any sort of confirmed time date as to when he is leaving us.

For me it's either giggs or/and nicky butt - after the initial success of someone like José; we need a local manager who understands the benefits of taking a risk on players like CBJ, Gomes etc. It might be funny now but I don't think it will be in 3 years time at all. There is also a reason that the 352 will suit these youngsters the most; I personally can't wait for it.

Someone add nicky butt to the pole too?

Of current manager, Pochettino seems the obvious choice. Wouldn't want any of PL cast offs like Pep or Klopp now. Marco Silva looks like he could be promising in the future. Perhaps he can go to Spuds?

Of course by the time Mourinho leaves there could be new names for the list.

Well, it is a hypothetical thread.

I went for Pep since he's an option on this thread.

We wont get Pep...

People are being really unrealistic if they think we even have a chance for Guardiola, I also wouldn't be shocked if Pep has a really good personal relationship with City's owners as well.

Also Pep would be a mare, half the team would have to get changed out and change there style, way more rebuilding required and way more money required (which I doubt the Glazers want to supply 100's of millions to replace capable players purely due to style, though inevitably some replacements may need to be made by any manager).

I really wouldn't want Simeone. People complain about Mourinho being pragmatic, Simeone is much worse and I don't want United to play like Atleti do in the future.

When mourinho leaves (but I think he's staying for at least next season), I'd want Pocchetino, Sarri, Jardim & Tuchel (if hes improved enough) would be within my top picks.

Voted for Poch.

[Please replace Hughes with Jardim. He doesn't deserve to be placed in this poll]

My only concern with him is his lack of trophies, a winning mentality and background should real be a part of our next managers make up, don't want his inexperience in the run down for a title to hamper us.

Other than that he'd be a great fit here.

I don't think we should take a risk on a someone who has never won anything. It's not like he's a David Moyes sure fire thing.

Yeah David Moyes is partly the reason why I hold this view, nice try on the sarcasm though.
