We missed that boat 2 years ago when he was begging for the job, unbelievable how we choose Moyes over a natural born winner. Still lost for words.

That said a lot of our supporters didn't want him because of his "boring football" despite his current Chelsea side being more entertaining than we have been in 6 years.

We will just have to watch him dominate English football for the rest of his tenure whilst we take gambles in the hope of challenging again one day.

Pep is the only one, give him a 6 year deal and let him change things. Reading that behind the scenes book on him at the moment, he is the man without question.

Pretty much. Pep or Ancelloti. Or Mourinho.

And some posters on here who think they're being clever or different or 'badass' by throwing in names like Conte or De Boer or Klopp, kindly do one. First of all, Conte has only been Italy's national team manager for about nine months now. Give him at least the Euro's to manage his country's football team for crying out loud.

Secondly, De Boer, like Pochettino, Martinez, Simeone, is too young and untested. It would be a MASSIVE gamble which is not what we want, thank you. Simeone doesn't even speak English by the way and he's coaching a team the equivalent of Tottenham Hotspur, not Man United. We are the equivalent of Real Madrid. A crude, arrogant statement, but it's the truth.

Thirdly, Klopp seems to be a popular choice. But this guy is a balloon case. He's immature, insane and not very good anymore it seems. It's a wild, wild card. It's the card that makes the wild card look OK. You don't know what he'll give us, you have no idea how he'll improve us and the club is probably too big for him.

People voting for Giggs or Neville... Liverpool and City fans surely...

Hopefully guardiola gets bored of winning everything at Bayern and wants a BIG challenge, let's face it moyes and LVG have totally destroyed us.

Guardiola may relish building a team from scratch, he's never really had that option yet, Barca was all about messi and bayern is all about Robben. The foundations was already in place whereas we are pretty much a total rebuild job.

One issue with United going after Guardiola is Bayern's season might not finish until the first Saturday in June. The Champions League final if Bayern make it, isn't until June 6. If it comes to it, when would they want their successor to van Gaal appointed and announced?
 
Despite the seeming high-brow nature of the poll question, this thread is really just another excuse to have a go at Louis Van Gaal. Unless we tank the rest of this season Louis will be our manager next season.

I agree. Hopefully he wins the thing and the German Super Cup next season and calls things in Germany complete.

I disagree. He's still a good manager, just don't know how to bring his team out of the crisis but that wasn't his fault in the first place, selling their best player in every summers is surely a bad business. Not sure if he's the best man to rebuild and steady the ship but once everything click, his team will fly.

Tbf at this point anyone but Ancelotti, Mourinho would be a massive gamble, including Pep(he doesn't know English football). We hired a experience manager, we gave him money, has our football improved much? I don't think so. If you have to gamble it, take your best odds.

Totally agree with you I've become bored to death with the possession football we have been playing over the past couple of years.
 
Whoever is flavour of the month in two years time?

I would have been happy to see Ancelotti or even Pellegrini given the job when Moyes took over, because I thought they were natural "steady the ship" types with an adaptable approach. But times pass and I don't know what kind of manager we'll need when Van Gaal leaves/gets sacked/retires.
 
Woted Guardiola but I have no idea really. Or we can hope Chelseas season completely implodes and Mou gets the sack.
 
After reading the latest comments here and calming down from yesterday, I still think we have to wait and see. On the match day thread I thought this would be a tough game and we might struggle to draw - we lost. Now it's out of the way let's move on.
 
If we're talking about after the end of LVG's contract here, then it's difficult to make too many predictions since we don't know how the existing candidates will perform in the meantime, or who may emerge as candidates in that time.

But more importantly, we don't know what state the club will be after that time - how the squad will be balanced, how the club will be after at least two seasons out of the Champions League, and the attitude of the Glazers to that position. That majorly affects who would be the best option for us, like for example it would've been completely inappropriate for us to have hired Pep after Sir Alex retired, since we barely had any central-midfielders worth mentioning to play in central-midfield, never mind to play in defence or attack - it wouldn't have worked then, and we'd need to make a similar judgement when hiring the next manager in terms of where the team is.

Sir Alex's departure basically left the club un-managable it seems - hopefully we'll be in better shape when LVG's tenure has been completed.
 
Simeone would be the one I would do everything to try and get when LVG leaves (hope it's 3-5 years and not months)
 
Voted Pocchetino a few days ago. Wouldn't be my first choice right now, but I like what I've seen of him thus far. And provided we achieve top four this season, we shouldn't be looking for a manager for another two seasons.
Big day for Pochettino.. If he can put one over Mourinho today, maybe win a cup next year as well as show good progression in the league, he should find himself up a few places in the pecking order.
 
van Gaal until 2020, then Giggs! Interesting to see where Frank de Boer is in 5 years time though, could be a obvious choice by then.

Well he's hardly improved us has he? Neither were/are good enough to manage us, we play equal to how we played under moyes if not worse, just go back and read the match threads. Even now he still doesn't know his best 11. He persists with under performing players and that means the whole team suffers because he tries to shoehorn these players in. I don't think we will win anything with him, I read when we signed him that the clubs he has managed fans either love or hate him I know which side I'm on.

I love United doesn't mean I have to like our manager.
 
I'd like Guardiola, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he was appointed as City's next manager. I genuinely have no idea who it will be, but have guessed Simeone.

We do not play "equal to how we played under Moyes". Some of last year's performances were truly embarrassing. Unimaginative is probably the worst you could throw at us this year.
 
Klopp is made for this club. Sure it would be a more risky appointment than Pep but IMO what this club needs is a good leader more than anything. Klopp has the personality and charisma to lead the club the way that SAF did. I honestly believe that whilst Pep may be more tactically adept and have better knowledge, the most important thing is to create a positive atmosphere and a spirit within the team which is what he does best. People must realize that its impossible for one man to run a club as big as ours and what you need is a manager who knows how to lead, delegate and trust his staff/players. (Btw I'm not saying pep is a bad leader just that he's not as infectious as klopp)

He'll return to Barca if Laporta becomes the new president IMO. It looks to me that he was pushed out of Barca (together with Cruyff and all other Cruyff students) when Rosell replaced Laporta. There won't be any reason for him to not return there when he finishes current contract.

I think that both us and City will be dissapointed if we/then want him as the new manager.
 
Actually I think Pep would suffer at City. There is something wrong with the club. They are league champions and don't seem to have the spirit of champions. There again it has been a strange season for quality so it might just be a cyclical thing....

By the time LvG leaves the team will be adapted to a possession based style, which should be perfect for him to work with. Didn't Guardiola also write in his book that he'd like to be the coach of Manchester United one day?

Mourinho looks like a perfect match but just seems too unrealistic.

Cool observations, never read his book. I find all the fantasises that fill footy gossip are not to be taken too seriously.
