People complaining about VAR should watch this game, supposedly a title game, to see if VAR is not indeed useful.
And now they can draw their conclusions... absolute bullshit

The Portuguese commentator just said “Casillas had no chance”!Through the legs of Casillas!
Dost and Gelson out, Doumbia gets injured and Rafael Leão scores his first goal as a professional. I don't understand football.
1-1 is not a bad result, better than 0-0 since it gives us an advantage in head to head. After the 1-0 I thought we were going to lose the plot as usual, but we've done well.
This is me right now:
And that was a penalty on Doumbia btw, the ref and VAR shat their pants because the crowd put pressure on them. The problem with VAR is that in situations like that they're always going to side with the ref. If the ref called it a penalty they'd have kept his decision too
Why don't you want to lose, more than you want to win? I don't get it, what's the use, Sporting's still 5 points from Porto. A win is a must.
Seems he's another academy player.First half Porto more dominant Sporting with a late equalizer of Rafael Lion. With such a name he has everything to be a succes at Sporting. Both teams could have scored more then once.
And the referee expelled the nurse guy.Fight with the stewards and players, god I love Spanish/Portuguese/Latin games

It's still really weird for me to see Casillas at Porto
To be fair it was a very fast and strong shot. Forwards rarely try to score through there due to the risk of hitting the keeper legs, but since the keeper can't keep his legs closed before the shot, I don't think being between the legs makes it worse than if it had been through his side. Wouldn't say "had no chance" but it definitely wasn't an easy save to make either.
To me too![]()
Tbf it can happen to more experienced players.Leão's miss is another one for the gallery of "almost" from Sporting football history.
Yes and no.It's a question of mentality and Sporting players (regardless of the issues with the referees and endemic corruption in Portugal) don't have it.
True. It's difficult to change the mindset after decades of failure.
Just changing JJ and replacing him with another manager or returning to the times where someone chooses the players and then the managers don't like them is no solution.I just hope the good job BdC is doing with the club finances and organization can translate to football.

It won't happen with Jesus though. If we don't win the EL (and i give us a minimum chance) it's time for him to go. I just can't stand him anymore and directly blame him for the january transfer market debacle and specially for the terrible management of the squad. His lineup and Bas Dost injury against Astana is unforgivable. Getting rid of Iuri and loaning Matheus Pereira when we have virtually 0 creativity without Gelson is mind blowing. I want a manager like Leonardo Jardim who gives chances to youngesters rather than this senile fool and his stupid fetiches with Bruno César and Bryan Ruiz. I want JJ out. He can't blame lack of investment this time. The blame for another season without the title is on him.

We need to build a modern football structure, where everyone knows his place, where you don't have stupid decisions like bringing Wendell or Misic to Portugal without any opinion from the manager, where we have the stupid situation where they don't play because he simply didn't have a word about that.
This and the fact we can't have a Academy where you have a B team where everyone wants to end the team and going to under 23's teams just because they are cheaper, where you see players there who don't have the minimal chance to be part of the senior team.
All in all, we need a director of football who can link the international scouting, the purpose of the football academy, and yes or no do we want our youth teams to have a similar brand of football as the professionals, or are we going to still buy 10 to 15 players all the seasons and expect 1 or 2 good players from the Academy to be developed.
My opinion, if we can't sign Fonseca or Jardim, simply there is not anyone in current portuguese football with the profile to develop at the same time younger players, be them from the Academy or International Scouting.
So the other solution would have to be someone from the new trend of German football, I have some opinions about that, but knowing Portugal if we signed a young guy from Germany who didn't won nothing relevant in professional football he would be murdered by the football media who hates BDC.
Sacking JJ and keeping the same policies simply will not work, we need to restructure the mentality and the profile of players we scout and sign on the international market, integrated with academy players where we need to ask more from the people who work there.
Sick and tired of mediocrity and excuses, corruption doesn't explain everything, we need people who think football.
