EL D Europa League Round of 16 1st Leg

Manchester United 1:1 AC Milan

Post-match discussion

Thu, 11 March 2021

Whole performance was poor. No idea what that triple sub was about. We were 1-0 up at the time but Milan were still the better side. James and Maguire missed complete sitters. De Gea would have saved that goal at the end, Henderson doesn't have the reflexes that De Gea has.

We were seriously missing Rashford in this game - he's usually the one that finds something in big games. Missing Cavani and Pogba who would have turned up in this match too.

Laboured and lumbered performance, which we can't afford to replicate Sunday or next Thursday.

The energy tanks look to be running low in the players too and with the injury list growing, worrying times ahead.

Retarded subs. I still cant make sense of it :wenger:
I mean people harp on about him not subbing bruno so I kinda have a sense of carful what you wish for but what I don’t understand, why sub him when it’s 1-0 in a tight game and not rest him when you’re 4-0 up?
unless he had a knock it’a one of the strangest subs I think I’ve ever seen

Amads goal was sensational. An outstanding moment in yet another shockingly bad team performance.

Definitely a fair result. They more than deserved that.

I thought the midfield was awful tonight. Just a complete inability to progress the ball up the pitch. Credit to Milan as they played their part in that, but the midfield pairing were absolutely terrible.

I can't understand Ole's cowardice. I really can't. I'm certain that it messes with the teams psychological strength. You're sending the message out that "I don't trust you to play your game for the remaining 20 mins", so I need you to just shut up shop.

Everyone blaming Henderson but it was a free header. It's never easy from that distance. Shite defending as usual. And from the usual suspects.

We should have never been in the position to draw the match in the first place or give away a corner right at the end by inviting pressure. We should have finished the game off with such a weakened Milan team. Fecking disgraceful from everyone.

This was what a proper European game should be, between two historic teams. Who would want to see City playing a team with a hipster coach, with both teams only intent on playing pretty triangles?

I’m an advocate for Henderson given DeGea’s form.

But if DDG does that tonight in injury time It’d be meltdown on here. He simply has to save that. He gets a solid enough connection but just pushes into roof of net.

Agreed but it's not much different to the one West Brom scored against De Gea a few weeks back and Lindelof gets the blame for it, this is what winds me up, De Gea gets away with alot more than most keepers. I don't even know who was marking the goalscorer there because it wasn't even mentioned, that's my point.
Should have come for the corner anyway, anything that close in, keeper should be coming for those all day long.

Lots will be blind to it because of the city game but we are in absolutely shite form since mid January.

1 good performance for every 3 shit ones.

We can't get knocked out of this. We are the bloody best team in the tournament player for player.
Really frustrating how we find a way to dodge challenging for silverware currently.

Bar the occasional good performance, feels like the wheels are falling off for us as we approach the business end of the season.

The injury list is stacking up with worrying intensity.

Need some players back? We were only missing Shaw, Fred, Pogba and Rashford from the starting 11 of our best team and the first 2 came on off the bench. AC Milan were far more weakened tonight than us.

I couldn't care less about AC Milan mate

We will need a striker or two available next week. Is that a controversial comment?

Most if their corners were targeted at near post and we failed to defend virtually the last corner of the game !!!.

Very inconsistent United.. the usual, even with the injuries this is not acceptable.

I hope we come out of this cup. Thursday and Sundays are horrible with our players getting injured. Now what, Martial too gone? I'd prioritize finishing second over this.

Was based on lack of players more than mentality plus we should have scored more than one
The speed of the first half though ... Was pedestrian. The second half wasn't much better but I take your point.

Dan James for instance, I can't remember any instance where he attacked the full back and tried to take them on. Martial going off wasn't great either as when we play Greenwood at CF at this point of his career, we're virtually playing 10 men.

Very annoying, no more than we deserve.
Need to play better next week but can see both teams scorin.

Poor subs cost us, and to be honest Milan did most of the running and most of the chances in the game so probably deserved it.

It's a 50/50 tie now

Why wasn't there a freekick for the obvious handball 40 seconds before their equaliser?

Milan deserved a goal but Henderson has to save that. The goals we've given away at the death is truly shocking. Everton, Leicester, Milan-it's all too familiar. I understand the desire to give Bruno a rest with the games coming up, but we have never been able to maintain possession to defend a 1 goal lead all season. Our injuries couldn't have come at a worse time.

Even after all that, we should've had 3 goals and on another day the handball by Tomori gets given and we see it out. The fine margins keep going against us. I have faith that the team can get a goal at San Siro. But we need players back, even if it's just Rashford.

Because injuries are mouting up and we need to rest players so this is an acceptable medium.
We dont look up for the EL, lets be honest. Its getting to the stage that we need to make choices between a nothing cup and cement second place in the league and go for the fa cup. No Rashford, Cavani or Martial for a few weeks is now a nightmare.

We didn't deserve the win. Playing it safe and it cost us. Inviting pressure. I bet half of the CAF would be going "job done" if we managed to hold on. Greenwood was unlucky to not have an assist. Milan played bravely and I have nothing negative to say against them. The ref made a crucial and ultimately wrong decision not to give us the handball in the end. If he did It would be game over and he knew it. It still doesn't excuse us though. As far as Henderson goes I could name at least 3 or 4 situations where I would be nervous with DDG. Not saying he is the answer but surley our CBs should feel safe around the GK? Happy for the youngster.

What's Javier Hernandez upto these days? Certainly better than the clows we have upfront?

Nobody bothers to take their chances!

The weakness of the squad on show tonight. Laughably some were comparing us to City’s squad. We were struggling for attacking options apart from young players.

Absolutely.
We're still a couple of seasons away from competing from the big prizes.
Milan were by far the better side, but our defence actually played quite well, not many shots for Henderson to save, but he did make a pig's ear of the goal, just waiting for the posters who don't think Henderson is good enough to pile in, but he looks very composed, and deserves a good run in the team.
Amad scored a great goal, but didn't do a great deal otherwise, but l look forward to seeing him improve as he gets more minutes.
Milan found lots of space in midfield, and create a few openings, so let's look forward to next week

There would be a shitstorm on twitter if De Gea conceded that goal.

Unpopular opinion, David De Gea would've been slaughtered on this forum for conceding that goal.
