PL D FA Premier League

Manchester United 1:1 Arsenal

Post-match discussion

Mon, 30 September 2019

We've scored 11 goals in 9 games this season - more than a third of those on opening day

Ole post-game bingo:

"They will be disappointed with that"
"Tough game"
"Could've gone both ways"
"Dust ourselves off"
"They're doing great in training".

Young/DDG expected an offside and stopped playing, that has never been a thing and especially not now with VAR!
James is very lively, but Rashford.exe has stopped working. Lingard lingarded as you would expect. Our quality in attack is just terrible for such a legendary club. But there was some excitement in 2nd half where we were really giving it a go and looked dangerous.

Probably the most angry I've been this season. Terrible against West Ham, frustrating in loads of other matches but this was there for the taking, against what we hope is a rival for top four, and we've choked it. So so sick of coughing up leads and points.

Anyway, James was good as was McTominay again, I've been very impressed with the pair of them this year. Pogba popped up here and there but not enough say on such an open game for me, Andreas ok, Maguire solid, Lindelof not bad other than that awful ball near the end and Tuanzebe very encouraging apart from a bad error that lets them back in.

Very frustrating night. Even when you don't play brilliantly there are still three points up for grabs, and watching a United team look terrified to take the initiative in a match and put teams out of games is horrible.

I actually dont mind what OGS has done to trim the squad. Losing, since January, Fellaini, Darmian, Valencia, Smalling, Lukaku, Sanchez is fine by me. No one can argue these were worthy of a place at Utd. To not keep Herrera was and is however a truly awful decision. Even more so, not adding to the midfield is almost unforgivable.

There is a decent squad in the making, I just think OGS is out of his depth.

Could you imagine Pochettino with a decent 14 consisting of DeGea, AWB, Lindelof, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Dalot, Pogba, McTominay, Gomes, Martial, Rashford, James, Greenwood.

Surely Tielemans should have been acquired. And Ndombele at least considered. Both would have been attainable.

Frustrating. Can easily see that Perriera and Lingarrd will be replaced come next season. They are poor.

Should have left Pogba in MF instead of moving him into the ten.

Bit worried about our lack of attacking flair. No method to it.

Pissed off as well with all the long balls we played in the second half.

Ashley Young as well. As thick as a plank.

Don’t think there is anymore potential at all and they’ll finish above us because they can score goals. They are awful away from home and will drop points to lots of teams.

I was thinking of the likes of Scotty, James, Greenwood, Tuanzebe etc. They will all improve.

But yeah, Arsenal actually have experienced strikers who consistently score.

Awful. Arsenal were there for the taking and we looked like we should have lost at times.

Ole proving himself inflexible and biased towards players like Rashford and Lingard while ignoring Greenwood and Fred is verging on criminally stupid. You cannot win gsmes when you have no functioning striker and another out of your front three is just plain crap.

11 mostly shit footballers take the field, play shit, continue to get picked, play shit again...Rinse and repeat. Wake the fek up Ole, no matter how many players are missing or how crap the squad is...Ashley f'in Young and Jesse Lingard arnt the answer, they prove this time and time again.

What a state this clubs in, we'r a F'in mess from top to bottom.

If Ed had given Jose Maguire, AWB and James he would've spanked this Arsenal team.

Even just Maguire. But no....

Two points well and truly dropped. Where to even start?

Ashley Young should not be a Manchester United player anymore. He's put in countless performances in the past year alone that were FAR worse than what made Gary Neville be ashamed (in his own words), and realize it was time to retire. Today, once again, Young cost United dearly. His decision making for a senior leader is ghastly. I remember a few scenes above all else: Young with the ball at about 30 meters out. Two or three players ahead of him starting runs, expecting the ball. Instead Young freezes, looks like a deer in the headlights, and then hoofs a comically slow and laboured ball across the pitch to a marked Daniel James, losing the possession. His crosses, his corners, him getting caught in possession several times, and worst of all: in the replays of the Arsenal goal, you can see him slowly jogging back with his arm in the air like a fecking traffic signal, instead of making any attempt at defending.

Lingard. I was upset when I saw his name on the team sheet, and then honestly forgot he was even playing until he got booked. Absolute nothing player as well these days. Offers nothing and should not play for United.

Lindelöf. I have no idea what has happened to him, but he's looked quite bad this season. Once again he was caught out and made some extremely questionable decisions several times.

Kevin Friend. I have absolutely no clue as to how this clown is a professional referee. The Premier League's version of VAR is also comically shit. If it doesn't turn over a blatantly incorrect call like the missed handball minutes before Arsenal's equalizer, what is even the point of it? Millions down the toilet and yet clowns like Friend can keep ruining games.

Positives

With the exception of his bad mistake that led to Arsenal's goal, I thought Tuanzebe was once again good. I really, really, REALLY hope that the second Wan-Bissaka is back on his feet, it'll be him and Tuanzebe as the fullbacks. I'll put up with young players making bad decisions, because it's to be expected. He'll develop, he'll get better. Ashley Young will only get worse (if possible).

Scott McTominay. Man of the match. Bossed the game, could've easily had a second goal.

Pereira. Easily his best game for United so far, thought he looked excellent.

Fred. Looked well up for it once he came on. For the love of Jesus, Ole: next game start Fred and McTominay in midfield with Pogba as the number 10.

Wanted to win. Should have won. Arsenal settling for draw and trying to get us on the break. We were useless in final third and Tuanzebes moment of madness cost us 3 points. Rashford should be benched just to take of burden from his shoulders. He looks like caring the whole world. We are talking about Lingard and Andreas but right now Rashford is no better nad is nowhere near goal when he should be.

Happy with a point away from home with Holding, Tierney, Bellerin and Lacazette all injured.

We're back in the top 3 and will beat you comfortably at the Emirates again.

De Gea - hopeless distribution, puts pressure on the back four

Young - the usual

Tuanzebe - out of position, at fault for the goal, a few moments where he showed good composure

Lindelof - always has the one WTF moment every game where he does something inexplicably Sunday league out of nowhere

Maguire - at least tried to force the issue

McTominay - MotM

Pogba - nowhere near good enough on the ball tonight to justify floaty, lethargic effort

Pereira - did OK

Lingard - did he touch the ball?

James - endeavour and pace but needs to work on delivery with left foot

Rashford - absolutely abysmal
I thought rashford was much better when he got moved to the right. Clearly shows he is not a middle man. Harsh on Tuanzabe i thought he was very good all game apart from a patchy 5 mins where he kept losing possession and gave away the goal. Pogba is horrendous in the deep role. He should not ve anywhere near there.

Depressing and painful viewing. Worst start to a league season for United since 1989/90. The lack of creativity in that United side was clear to see again and that lack of creativity made an awful Arsenal defence look decent.

Very frustrating the manner of how the points was dropped tonight. An error and Arsenal got two goals from gifts last year in Old Trafford.

If anyone comes after that and lambasts Pereira then it's clear as day he's got an agenda towards the lad. Him, McTominay and Maguire were basically our only decent outfield players out there.

We have the highest wage bill in the PL and produce that. Ole needs to go and Woodward needs to be arrested.

Given championship striker 200k is a prove that our club is terrible runned.

The guys put in a shift and it was decent entertainment.
Painful to see Rashford in this form. Works hard but absolutely nothing is happening for him. Difficult to recognize the player we saw in his debut season.
Tuanzebe looked lost out there on the left. Feel sorry for him. Should get the chance in his prefered position instead.
Lingard and Young were both terrible yet again. Wouldn't mind seeing Ramazani, Levitt, Garner or just about anyone get a chance instead of Lingard at the moment.

Meh difficult conditions and both teams being bang average and the refereeing abysmal. Some of the individual mistakes today were what you'd expect from toddlers but the rain is probably at fault there. Nice drive though - not a boring match at least - kept me engaged from start to finish - but once more our lack of quality in the final third shows. They're too hesitant lacking determination and resolve - and also vision. There were open passing lanes to unmarked teammates going to waste several times - the whole "just shoot" or "send in random crosses" is becoming too predictable and does not deliver results - they need to find their cool and get their wits about them. As of now - two top-six teams at best. Young team of course might evolve as the season progresses - hoping so at least - but in my opinion we really need to reinforce our midfield and attack this window (in fact we already should have) or we'll end up exactly where we did last campaign.

Young kept taking corner, when he couldn't even cross decent ball. "My Captain always cross".

He literally created a clear cut chance from a corner but it was a criminal miss by McTominay. If you're going to highlight the poor then highlight the good because that was a clear cut chance from the corner.

I thought Tuanzebe was good in the first half, but dropped off massively in the second half.

He won't ever be a regular full back here I'm sure.

We should have targeted Chambers more. He was booked after 9 minutes.

I can't figure out why the majority of our attacks originated from the right, when it was clear as day that James had the beating of Chambers and should have seen far more of the ball.

Got what we deserved, a side with no threat down the right or up front. Rashford needs to study how Aubameyang plays if he has any designs on playing as a 9. The less said about Lingard the better, absolutely woeful. Provided zero creativity yet again. Play Pogba at 10 with Fred in his current position. If you have nothing happening going forwards why waste our most creative player on the half way line!

Watching Young, Pereria and Lingard constantly fouling when tracking back is so infuriating, with these starting the bad results will keep coming.

The good and the bad evened out in the end. But you know what, we probably did enough to win and on another day we would've won. McTominay was very good, Pereira and James were decent, even Rashford showed some fire especially in the second half.

But ultimately it's still not good enough.

He literally created a clear cut chance from a corner but it was a criminal miss by McTominay. If you're going to highlight the poor then highlight the good because that was a clear cut chance from the corner.
Was it meant for McTom or Maguire? The chance was there because Maguire missed it.

We're completely shite in the number 10 position and on the right wing.
Our left winger is positive but lacking end product and our strikers are either injured, out of form (both?) or 17 years old.

It's not really a shock that we struggle to create chances and score goals, is it?

Buckle up, we're in for a season of struggle, I'm afraid.

Good this.

De Gea - hopeless distribution, puts pressure on the back four

Young - the usual

Tuanzebe - out of position, at fault for the goal, a few moments where he showed good composure

Lindelof - always has the one WTF moment every game where he does something inexplicably Sunday league out of nowhere I've always said I'd prefer Smalling to Lindelof. Tuanzebe is the choice at CB now for me.

Maguire - at least tried to force the issue

McTominay - MotM

Pogba - nowhere near good enough on the ball tonight to justify floaty, lethargic effort It's scary how much better this guy could be with a decent team around him. We've probably sent him into Major Depressive Disorder

Pereira - did OK showed some pace and awareness today. Would benefit from having good options ahead of him from a CM position.

Lingard - did he touch the ball? Lingard is only useful as another Alan Smith, the Keane replacement version.

James - endeavour and pace but needs to work on delivery with left foot and the whole of the team needs to work on getting into the box and in good positions to benefit

Rashford - absolutely abysmal wow this guy is out of ideas. but the team setup is killing him as well. Welbeck mark 2 incoming.

That was dull. We need a striker, and two playmakers behind the striker and on the right and it's the playmakers we need the most imo. There's an almost total lack of creativity in the attack. The defence and midfield are actually pretty ok now. If we could bring in two of Sancho, eriksen, maddison, buendia, those types of player, we'd suddenly be a lot more convincing than we are right now. Assuming of course that we don't lose pogba in the near future.
