Quite why Fletcher played period and why RvP was subbed instead of Mata I will never know.
Those complaining about the lineup or formation, look at the injuries.
Once we have a proper RB and LB back, and Fellaini/Herrera/Blind, then we won't be seeing 3 in the back anymore.
We could've gone with Young-Evans-Jones-Rafael in the back, then Carrick behind Valencia and Rooney, Mata at the tip and RvP - Falcao duo up top. Just saying. I don't think the 3-5-2 was justified against Villa today. Those complaining about the lineup or formation, look at the injuries.

If anything the 3-5-2 made no sense today in particular. We had a midfield crisis and decided to put our best midfielder in defense. How does that make sense? Those complaining about the lineup or formation, look at the injuries.

What I find interesting is that when De Gea made 8 saves against Scousepool, we had a terrible defence, De Gea saved us and we didn't deserve to win. (According to the 'pundits').
Today, Guzan made 8 saves, their defence was a rock, Vlaar should transfer to United, Guzan was immense.
What's the difference? Our finishing wasn't good enough, we should have stuffed these.
A straight red it was not, but a red was correct overall.
it doesn't matter if he is talking sense if the team is being held back because of his mistakes which the case clearly in this matchYeah, every time he talks sense.
That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking, and those that are complaining about his philosophy being all about possession I hope you can see from this interview that he is very well aware that we are nowhere near creative enough. He isn't stupid.
True. He would have played 4 at the back and a defensive midfield four, possibly featuring Valencia and Young on the "wings".Fergie wouldn't have had to play 5 at the back today.
And if that performed how they did today, we'd have picked up 3 points. Unless Valencia picked up a knock, there was no need to change them two. LvG cost us today imo, 3 CB's simply does and will not work with these players. Rooney suffered today because of the line up and formation.True. We have not lost at Villa Park in the league for the past 18 games, in which we have won 12 and drawn six.Wowzers. Im reading a lot a doom and gloom in this thread.
Villa away is always a tricky place to go and whilst i too am dissappointed with only 1 point, things could have been worse.
Here we have people moaning about bad managerial choices, about dropping points against relegation candidates about individual perfomances,... Give it a break.
We will always drop points against weaker teams - When we won the treble - we lost league games against Sheff Wed and Middlesbourgh. It happens, thats the nature of the beast.
Managers will always make bad decisions - Fergie dropped an 'on fire' Valencia for Park at the emptihad and we got beat 1 nil.
Players will alaways have a bad day - Eboue
My point is that LVG calls the shots that he believes is in the best interest of the team. Sometimes it will be wrong but lets look at the bigger picture before crying about it.
Players, regardless of performance levels, will always put in 100% effort. Sometimes it just doesnt happen.
Build a bridge, get over it and lets beat Newcastle on boxing day.
Still can't get over the game. Aston Villa were cringeworthy, especially Guzan. I think this will be the game where we lost the chance to win the title, or finish second.
Not sure why this match is bringing some of the Ott reactions.
Really ?People seem to suffer from extreme bout of hopefulness or hopelessness.
Some of our players should be ashamed of themselves for not going to the jugular when Villa went down to 10 men.
Really ?
Agree. I wasn't too fussed about yesterday result as we were always going to drop some points during the rest of the season, it was always going to happen. As long as we are with in 10 points of the leaders by the end of Christmas then there still a chance of at challenging for the title. Its extreme, either of the two. In the quoted case, its a case of hopelessness.
Considering the form of the teams right behind us (like Southampton finding their mojo by raping Everton or West Ham not losing any steam), the last thing we needed was a shitty result like this one.
