Zlatan and Bailly was fantastic.

This.

Fellaini...also had a very good game. I seem him as the holding mid on Friday.

Martial was the most impressive I've seen since last season. I saw some of the magic that has been missing his last 5 matches.

Memphis...has some quality...but needed more time.

Had most on 7 or 8. Solid performances all around.
Bailly motm for me, with Zlatan a close 2nd.

In the dying seconds when we were under pressure, I hated the fact he tried to be clever on the edge of his own box, with a bit of skill that didn't come off. Just clear the fecking ball ffs, he lost it and we almost conceded.

There is a time for flair, and that was not one.

I don't know if I've developed an agenda against Rooney but I thought everyone had a good game except him. Adjusted well for his goal and worked hard for his saved shot but other than him I thought the whole team did a brilliant job.

Think Martial did some nice things too even though some have said he was a little quiet.

Loved it when Zlatan went for a header in the first half off a Valencia cross and Flattened two of their defenders. Gif if possible please @GifLord or @Olly !

This team will be tough to bully and Zlatan definitely brings in a fear factor and him scoring today would have done his reputation no harm!

I thought so too but it seems there's something Jose likes in Fellaini, and he only helped himself today. I mean it was Carrick who was dropped even after the mistake from Fellaini last week so we'll see.

I think Fellaini will be swapped for Pogba starting next week. Mourinho likes a single holding midfield player, but it seems like Hererra and Fellaini shared that role today. They also swapped sides multiple times during the game. It was good to watch. We have 3 or 4 good combinations in midfield. Morgan + Pogba, Herrera + Pogba, Fellaini+Pogba, Morgan + Herrera + Pogba. Its great to have so many options to set up the team in the right way depending on the opponent.

Also, we do seriously look like a much stronger unit now. There is lot of power and pace that's been added with the new signings.

Not bad: last season's side would have lost 2-1 so Jose has already made a difference for me. Bailly was good but I am giving my vote for MoM to Blind who was huge. I don't think Martial is going to have the same impact this season as last, Rooney wasn't great but I am not one of those calling for him to be hung, drawn and quartered like some ridiculous members (I will admit that this may be his last season). Shaw looked strong, still not convinced that Valencia is a full back and we will need more creativity than Herrra/Fellaini/Mata gave us. Zlatan is one of thos estrange players who looks as if he is uninvolved and then does something brilliant. Over all a goodish start and how nice it is to have a manager being involved again: his cajoling as the third went in has been sadly missing for two (if not three) years

Anyone know why Mkhitaryan isn't starting for us?

But, weren't the last 5 matches pre-season. Focus would have primarily been to get fit. He seems ready for the new season now.

No one's sure but I think Mourinho might be easing him into this league. He isn't a physical monster like Zlatan, Bailly or Pogba.

At least I hope that's the reason.

An enjoyable Utd game where i didn't fall asleep........I'd forgotten that feeling

Must be a combination of fitness + introduce him slowly to the league (and the team) thing. Won't read too much into it.

Edit: He probably does not want him to get exposed like Depay did last season. ;)

Some of you are too critical towards Rooney. He had a good game. His goal was very important, it gave us confidence. And we all know that he always needs a few games to get going.

Agreed. It's way over the top for a player who is half a dozen goals from becoming our highest ever scorer.

He's always started the season a bit slow but then improves with matches. He wasn't brilliant today but he took his chance well and played his part in a decent win.

Martial? I thought he added very little at all, and was asleep for their goal too. The others, yes, totally agree.
Did assist two goals (albeit not very good assists). Thought he was good today, and a lot better than in pre season. Was lively in the second half and worked well both ways.

We still look unfit, we are almost there tho, some of the guys need games. Terrific game, I love the attitude of everyone. They all want to fight for ti.

Scoring 3 goals in when playing average is a good sign.

Positives: Bailly, Valencia
Negatives: Rooney, Martial.

Top of the league, just need to win our next 37 to be champions.

Scoring 3 goals when playing good/bad/average under LVG would've been seen as a minor miracle.
I think 25 more wins and some draws will see us win this year's league.

Bailly MotM no two words about it.
Fellaini did his job, good petformance.
Rooney was horrible in the 1st, in the second half he was ok.
Martial and Herrera got better as well.
Overall a good game, important win to get the team going right from the start of a season. Very happy.

How on earth was Martial a negative? 2 assists and looked dangerous every time he got it in the second half with an understanding with Ibra and Shaw starting to build. First half was quiet sure but he was class in the second.

Fellaini sounds like an underworld porn director

The most important thing with the first game of the season is to get points on the board especially after a bad preseason and having a new manager and we certainly did that today. I am very happy with the overall performance. We basically bullied Bournemouth today which was very refreshing to see. Defensively we were very solid minus the goal however mistakes need to happen so they get ironed out and it's better happening when we're winning comfortably. Bailly and Blind today were class. Smalling will have a tough time getting back into the centre of that defence. Fellaini was solid, it's looking like he could be a rock under Mourinho. Zlatan was... well just bloody Zlatan. Everything I expected and he could score quite a number of goals for us this season. All this and we still have yet to unleash Pogba, Rashford & Mkhitaryan. It's very exciting times ahead of us.

One last note. Rooney was once again shocking. No improvement at all. He's always going to get a goal from somewhere though and that will keep him in the team. The sooner he beats Sir Bobby's record the better.

As always 3 points in the bag is a good start. And our new boys Bailly and Zlatan showing that they can play in this league.
