Post-match discussion

Far be it from me to give the Glazer regime credit for anything, but I find it hard to believe that even our board would meet, agree to sack the manager and then the next day be sending panicked texts: "Abort! Abort! Gary Neville's upset with us!". The reason Mourinho wasn't sacked after Neville's rant was because there was no decision to sack him in the first place... which was an act of incompetence on its own, of course.
I know the Glazers, they engage in high tech public reaction surveys prior to making decisions. The news was floated to see public reaction. At the time, it was not that popular. Last week, SAF got involved and it was over.

What was that, seriously? I cannot even fathom it anymore. This was so surreal. I almost forgot what this feels like. At one point we had 13 shots against their 2, 77% possession against their 23%. And that against a team that won 4 out of their last 5 home games.

Martial's goal
Pogba's no-look pass

I haven't had this much fun during a Manchester United game since... I don't even remember. If the aim is to always play this kind of football, I'll easily live with the occasions when it doesn't quite work out.

The defensive shackles (i.e fear factor) were obviously removed by Ole and players that couldn't string 3 passes together all season show their real potential - surprise surprise...
It can only get better as the players get used to a new way of playing - the proof is there that we have skillful players perfectly capable of playing this way if allowed to - even the bleedin centre backs .
In the words of Admiral Isoroku Yamamo on Manchester United after Mourinho ....“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” .......

One interesting thing ... very flat interview from lingard and rashford... because they were absolutely knackered
I don't think anyone could ever actually fault the effort of those two. The claims of laziness were never really directed at them.

Let's go on a good run the next 4 games to re-instill the fear of playing Man Utd again.
This has been missing for too long. It was the Moyes season of I remember correctly, three weeks in and teams realised that they could have a go at us and get points instead of being overly cautious.

Fantastic performance. You can start to look and see how much higher the ceiling for this team is, as opposed to worrying about how low we can go. If the players can keep their motivation high all season, we will be in for a good finish.

I loved the freedom given to Lindelof to drive with the ball. Added an additional dimension we haven't really had

Don't think there should be a place for Lukaku moving forward. We need to explore the potential of that front 3, with Sanchez coming in at times. All can play across the front line, give us tremendous variation, ability to link off one another.

Lukaku hinders the fluidity that was so impressive tonight.

May be he will show us a different lukaku as well.

That Martial goal. The buildup, the passing, the finish...sublime
That goal is one that Morrison, Lingard and Pogba use to score numerous times. Jose misused Pogba. I mean this was a guy who was scoring or shooting regularly while at Juve and then he just disappears?
If Ole is bold enough, he should try to bring Morrison in for a look, we will tier people part, but I think Sanchez can handle the right side.

Definitely worth staying up until 4:30am for. Really enjoyed that. The fact that I was shocked when we scored the first two goals tells a story.

It's almost 3am here, I would have skipped the match if Mou was still the manager, now I'm excited to see United's game again :D

Better obviously. Far better.

Only thing I'll say is that it doesn't reflect well on Mourinho or the players.

Still, hopefully it's the first of many better days ahead

Fast paced aggressive attacking football and it was a pleasure to watch.

That game alone was worth the 18 million its cost to sack old misery guts.

3 Minutes is all it took to restore our faith.

That wasn't an easy Cardiff team by any means but we played our game and didn't focus on them.

Can't believe the muppet who predicted a loss:lol:

So this is the power of getting rid of a toxic little weasel.

Seriously, playing with freedom and more desire isn't going to suddenly going to bring us to the level of the better teams but at least we'll be enjoyable to watch. Being real contenders again can wait.

Another thing that was important was bringing on Fred, bringing on Fellaini, giving the sense that everyone has a chance. Agree that Lingard did well. Lindelof did well too and Phil Jones was immense. I loved the graft put in by Shaw. I gave Pogba MOTM, but another very critical figure was Matic. Looks like OGS has wiped the slate clean. We all need to take a leaf from that book.

This. I feel in certain games, a 2 up top with Lukaku and either Rashford or Martial will work. When we play a team with a big defence and were struggling to break them down by playing direct.. lukaku thrives. He just shouldn't be the only striker up top expected to do what Jose had him doing. But Sanchez and Mata should get the nod in OGS system first. They will also slot straight in the way Lingard did today. The fluidity of the front 3 as you mentioned is what we as fans have craved all season. I knew we had the potential to do it with the players we have.

Happy red here!

What did Rooney say about the dressing room? Sorry I'm not watching on bt

He was saying that he had spoken to people at the club and that no one was happy with how things were. He said everyone from the players, tea lady and kit men were unhappy with the current setup.

Now Ole should sit lukaku out for few matches and let this team and style of play settle in. Transition him into the team carefully.
No need,Lukaku can be played in to feet;he's better at that than hopeless long ball crap. His best goals have been when he's been played in eg clever passes, powering through.Bonus is that he's a beast in the air but you need the right delivery

Yes but I think we need to replace Young. I think he was not as good as the others and they created all sorts of problems on our right side. What surprised me was how well Matic played today. He was immense in that midfield in that holding position.
The Martial goal is something we probably would never see with Jose around. We would have gone to a defensive mode from the 2nd goal.
I hope that Ole does not bring in Lukakau. I liked the fact the way Lindelof and Jones joined the attack. If the return pass from Lingaard was better Linedlof may have scored.

That's much more like it. Just think, that's what the players can do after having the shackles taken off and being allowed to play with freedom. Imagine what they could do with a few months of decent attacking coaching

Bye bye Mourinho.

The biggest change getting Ole in has made in his first game is the will to go on and score more even when we are 3 or 4 up. I know City, Pool and sometimes Arsenal do that on a regular basis, but that used to be a United way of going about things, and I'm glad that is coming back. We were positive from the word go, and kept attacking and being proactive. I know these goals won't come against tougher and better opponents, and the pressing we had might backfire against some opposition, but we're on the right track. Watching players flood the edge of the box on the counter makes me really happy. :)

In an attacking system, Pogba looks lethal with his touches and vision. Loved Rashford's attitude and free kick, Martial's undeniable skill on the ball in the final third, Lingard's movement and link-up play. I thought Herrera was much more effective because we trying to press, and the movement of the full backs really helped the attacks despite leaving vast spaces at the back. Shaw in particular was a menace. It's astonishing how much of a difference allowing players to simply play to their strengths makes.

Not convinced with our CBs, but we knew that already. On another day, those balls over the top while Lindelof is out of position could really hurt us, as we saw against Liverpool. I'm not convinced with their one-on-one defending or heading either. We really need a good leader at CB, especially if we're gonna keep attacking and leave space at the back. Again, things we were made well aware of under Mourinho.

I'm looking forward to improving our structure in midfield, and our organization in defence in transitions. But obviously, what I'm looking forward to the most is more positive football and more fecking great goals.

That was a celebration by the players not a football match. Buzzing

Apparently these guys haven’t got the memo that the season is apparently finished. Thank feck.

Some game.
Of course it is Limited how much Solskjær can have changed things, but this is the way he wants to play (speaking as a Molde supporter). Cardiff not the biggest test. But they have been solid at home lately.

- Full backs keeping the Width far up the Field. Check.
- Central back (Lindelöf) who can play creative passes up. Check.
- Pass and move up front. Check.
- Wide forwards coming in and overloading in central areas. Check.

Some observations.
- Starts With the symbol of Mourinho-football (Matic), and decides to spend one of the substitutes to bring on Fellaini, also someone many says doesn't not have a Place in a "New Man Utd". Solskjær wants to bring everyone along. Matic is good in that role, so no big surprise. Bringing on Fellaini is an intelligent move in terms of man-management.
- Herrera could be useful going forward. Busy bee who covers lots of ground Box to box. Very useful in an attacking team.
- Perfect start not only in the result, but also in the number of players that got going (goals for Rashford, Martial, Lingard, assists and a good performance from Pogba, A New Coming for Lindelöf and Shaw. Appearences for Pereira and Fred).

You've nailed it.

I really blame Gary fecking Neville for the delay, his passionate blast of the report swayed people who were about to pull the trigger.

I agree, if he was sacked when it was reported then we could've been in the top 4 right now.

There's always some points to develop, and that's it; defence. One we get a leader at the back we'll be formidable for stronger teams
