Post-match discussion

This place is fecking mental. That was an incredible result.

It would've been prior to the game, but on reflection and given how poor Celta were, this tie should really have been put to bed tonight.

It's a good result, but not an incredible one.

Fantastic result, Celta clearly showing they have little to offer.

I'd still rest this weekend with the game next week in mind.

How does that work? Of course it gives as an advantage.

We can't win the tie on the away goals rule.

Consider all the possible outcomes at Old Trafford which result in the sides finishing level on goals scored:

0-1, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4,.......

The first gives a draw; all the rest a Celta victory in the tie. As I said, there's no possible outcome in which we go through on away goals.

I want to read more about an away goal being more valuable if it only secures a draw rather than a win with a clean sheet, please?

Great result! I thought we played well today, but our finishing is dreadful. I hope we add one more goal at OT, and on to the final!

Rest players against Arsenal, get through next week. Then we let the kids finish out the PL fixtures and go to Sweden and claim a european trophy.

We're still 1-0 up in the tie though.

True but they now have to win at Old Trafford or at least get a score draw and I don't think they're up to the task in all honesty.

Can see us spanking 'em, assuming we decide to put our chances away of course.

Good result. Now a draw is enough in the second leg to go through. Considering our unbeaten run, we should go past the line in the second leg.

Aha, so 1:2 would actually be a better result?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho: "I am very pleased with the performance but not with the result.

"At half time should have been three or at least two but the result is open.

"We played well enough to have result closed but we have to go and play at Old Trafford.

"Let's hope Old Trafford want us to win because when Old Trafford wants it, we win".

Why the feck were we wasting time with only 1-0 up? It's not Barcelona we're playing!!

Too wasteful (shock horror?!). Tie far from over, cause, well.. we're not gonna score at Old Trafford.
Do you need a brown paper bag to breathe into?

erm...0-0 not possible?

Yeah, I thought that was really good actually. Very polished and very professional, with genuinely poor finishing letting us down.

I don't think playing the likes of Fellaini and Lingard in these attacking areas is the way forward for us long term (there's a reason we struggle to score goals) but I suppose it's a mean to an end.

At home, we need to send out the likes of Mata and Martial and hunt for goals. I'd like to think we should see this one out fairly comfortably.

Doesn't really matter, I'm looking for us to win the cup and everyone would have snapped your hand off for that. We don't have to thrash every team we come across and we don't even do that.

We already know that our finishing is terrible and we need about 7 clear-cut chances to score one goal, so what's the surprise?

A win at Celta Vigo in a European semi-final is brilliant, don't care what the score is.

We go ahead if we draw at OT

Great result and overall we played well as a team. Pogba's return was vital and and if anything Young's injury convinced me that we really should set our sights on winning the Europa. I can't remember the last time we had to play so many matches in such a short period. It was like what, 1 match every 2 or 3 days? Crazy. Injuries are bound to occur again if we spread ourselves too thin.

United were very well organised and managed the game superbly.

Celta were poor as United made them look poor.

Very comfortable and solid at the back with Romero having one save to make all night.

Just enjoy the win and give a bit of credit eh?

It was meh. Nothing exciting. Good result. Not going to feign loads of enthusiasm

Disappointed overall that we haven't put this to bed tonight.
Also worrying that it's taken something stunning from Rashford to break the deadlock.

That being said, I thought we were really good tonight, Pogba especially. Although the yellow card for him at the end could prove costly, I would consider resting him in the return leg.

Celta has been very poor away from Balaídos this season. I think the final is certain now

brexit, shit, the world is doomed, jose is a cnut etc etc on here.....

In the real world a decent result, thought we played well in the first half and could have scored more, can understand why we left some in the tank. Overall pleased and would have settled for it before the game kicked off.

He's talking about going through on away goals. 0-0 just puts United through on aggregate.
puts us through with our away goal yeah, so it is an advantage.

0-1 at OT doesn't give CV a win in the tie

we cannot lose this tie until CV have scored twice, unless we are taking penalties after we haven't scored in 2 hours (which is possible, tbf) :D

GREAT RESULT !!!

Good result & some good performances. Pogba played well, might be me, but he seems to move the ball quicker when he's not so fixated on searching out passes for zlatan .
Hope we don't get overly cautious in the 2nd leg due to our lead. We're a good bit better than them , & need to show it again.

I knew Celta were bad, but not that bad. Or maybe we were just too good.

Ajax will be a handful though.

Probably a combination of the two. Celta came in the game on the back of a losing streak and obviously were not at there level best, then again we controlled the game from start to finish, Pogba, Fellaini and Herrera dominated the midfield tonight.

A 2-1 (to us) is better than a 1-0 (to us) because the probability of them scoring two goals in Old Trafford is less than them scoring one.

Should have put the tie to bed in the first half, but a result is a result, Pogba and Rashgod a class above.

Mourinho, start making subs when certain players aren't performing
